    Thanks for the video! And for anyone questioning if Waveform is worth it, I couldn't recommend it enough! A few features built into other DAW's might not be there right off the bat, but it has been seldom I can't find a free plugin to add in what I'm looking for.
    Years ago I used to use Audacity to record demos for my songs, I wanted a better DAW but couldn't find a good one for free. One day I found Waveform and saw that it was free and have never looked back since. At this point I haven't spent a single penny on anything from the program and have used only free VST's, and I'm still shocked to this day just how good my songs sound. With Waveform you are literally getting professional level sound because of the fact you can use any plugin, and as long as your external equipment is good, or you find the right VST instruments, you'll sound amazing!
    At this point I could buy a better DAW, but Waveform honestly has been good enough I haven't bothered too. If you aren't too serious in your music and do it from your bedroom, this IS the best program you could possibly ask for.

I've been using Reaper for ages and still love it, but just recently feel it really needs a makeover, so I tried Waveform latest, and I love it, it really is well thought out and quite powerful for a free version. One thing I like about the micro drum sampler from waveform is that it has a sensitivity option depending of where you hit the pads, and that the plugin window can float in front of other software window like google without maximizing the entire daw window. I don't know how to use this in a practical way but it is interesting.

    Pretty sick! I learned about Waveform Free today in one of your videos and just downloaded it. Looks like it has everything I need to get productive quickly and should get me further than e. G. GarageBand. But it's intuitive like GarageBand at the same time, unlike Reaper, which has a considerably steeper learning curve. But Waveform still has many of the great features that I found in Reaper, like track folders with shared effects, a flexible bus system or customizable shortcuts.
    I will start messing with both Waveform and Reaper in the next couple of days/weeks. Both are way more promising than GarageBand or the crippled versions of Ableton Live Lite and Performer Lite that I got with my audio interface. And both will work with Linux if I ever decide to switch.

      Where did you end up? Waveform or LMMS? Or something else? I know there are DAWs like Ardour, REAPER, Studio One, Renoise, Bitwig. I myself am just getting started, so I can't decide yet what DAW I should stick with. I am on Linux, at the moment I am using LMMS, I have Ableton Live Lite license on my Windows laptop, but I dislike Windows and not sure if I should spend my time using Ableton Live Lite, it's kind of limited DAW (limited tracks) compared to Waveform. And for starting out I just need something free and maybe even open source. I know Ardour is powerful, but haven't tried it yet. Trying MuSE now.

    • @MadWyrmMusic
      @MadWyrmMusic Před 4 měsíci

      @@Mr-Sinister Thanks for the comment. I switched to Linux myself (Kubuntu). LMMS runs waaay better on Linux compared to windows (not a big surprise tbh, it's in the name). Waveform has nice features that LMMS doesnt have. However, LMMS has good Track automation what i really appreciate. Loading times are better on Linux too so i'm keeping LMMS. Downloading additional instruments/modules are a must imo. Depending on how much work you want to put into tracks, you can consider using not just one DAW. I only tried these two DAWs and tried going double but it can get tricky if you got multiple stems. LMMS is easier to learn and handle, waveform is more powerful with better modules imo.

    • @brsmsic
      @brsmsic Před rokem

      I’m not sure if this will help.
      There's a bunch of buttons in the lower left corner, as long as you haven't hidden them. If you have hidden them, there's a line with an up arrow in the lower left corner; if you click that, the buttons reappear. One of them says Save on it, then you can save your edit. It's Edits rather than projects that you save. A project might have several edits in it. Any that have changed would need saving.
      The current manual doesn't mention having to do that; and I can't find the setting; so presumably it could now be built-in (I think because MP3 is old enough that any patent is now expired).
      Silly question - top of the dialog box there's a little dropdown arrow beside format - did you click that to select .MP3 ?

    Good video. Thanks. The following question is directed to the channel or anybody on this channel who may have the answers. As far as looping goes I can't seem to find any videos that cover the ability to change the loop as it's playing e.g. moving the beginning and/or ending loop points as the loop is playing so it's shortened or lengthened on the next cycle. Does Waveform free or paid have that option? Also does Waveform have an automated zero crossing point finding and marking feature. I have used other music software that will make a series of slices of a clip at points it thinks might be useful sample chunks. Thanks in advance for your attention to this.

    Hi, Zane. Congratz for your nice videos. I have a question about the midi editor of Waveform, maybe you can help me. Is there an option to listen the notes while changing the velocity?

    • @AudioTechTV
      @AudioTechTV  Před rokem +2

      The velocity would be from the initial bit of the note. So if a note has already been hit and you change the velocity it wouldn’t change the sound until it’s hit again. If you have a midi keyboard you could just keep hitting the note while changing the velocity. If you don’t have a midi keyboard you could create a midi clip with notes being hit fairly close together and then loop that section and continue playing it while adjusting the velocity.

      @@PGvideoinc I just started making music in Cakewalk, but heard about them making a paid version and not updating the free one anymore.
      Wouldn't the free one start performing worse over time if its not being looked after anymore? So I was thinking of moving to Tracktion.
      So I'm wondering how to move the songs I have in Cakewalk into Tracktion. Do you know? Any automation and effects would be gone when moving them, right?
      Thats what I heard. So I'd want to switch so I can start adding those things. Would it remember the instrument you chose for each track?
      I have plugins I downloaded that have a collection of their own instruments. I'm not using any instruments from Cakewalk.
      It'd be annoying if it couldn't copy the plugin and the instrument I set each track to from the plugin.
      So basically, what will be copied when moving a song into another daw and what won't be copied?
      What would be lost? If I used an effect on a track that wasn't from Cakewalk and was downloaded, would it be able to remember that effect is on that track or no?
      I'm worried about it only copying the midi itself and nothing else. Thanks for your time.

      @@yosachaiko9969
      1 - Not sure about the free Cakewalk degrading, probably not
      2 - Yes, you can export from Cakewalk and import to Tracktion. You can import the raw recording wav files or the the processed ones (the tracks with the sound of the plugins on). However the processed ones will not import the plugin settings only the effects that the plugin resulted in in Cakewalk - if that makes sense. I think the automation gets imported as well.
      3 - I use Tracktion Waveform now for new recordings, it really suits my workflow and I have bought two of the expansion packs to unlock further features. I have imported some of my songs from Cakewalk and Reaper into Tracktion, but actually preferred to go back to the original DAWs to finish them off.

    • @AudioTechTV
      @AudioTechTV  Před rokem +2

      They are both very similar so I don’t think you would be lost trying to figure things out. The new audio engine is very nice and the browser system makes working with Waveform even faster. I think WF12 is better. But if you are comfortable with 11 then stick with it. There’s no need to upgrade every time a newer version comes out. Use whatever you’re comfortable with.
      The good thing is that WF12 doesn’t overwrite WF11 so you can try it out and see if you like it and if you don’t, then you can continue to use the older version.
      Thank you for continuing to watch. I still need to check out your latest songs. I’ll do that soon (summer has been very busy for me). Keep creating! 👊👍

Give it a try, start small and don't attempt to make a whole song with 7 different tracks from day one like I did. The most trouble I've had with MIDI is drums being mapped out differently on various softwares, so try to do a test with something simple beforehand. • @AudioTechTV
      @AudioTechTV  Před rokem +1

      Yes it will recognize the plugins that came with Waveform 11 Pro. But features like the chord track, and other integrated features that only work in pro will likely not be available to you.
      If you download and install Waveform 12 free, it does not overwrite Waveform 11 so you’ll still be able to use it if you end up not liking Waveform 12 free. However any projects that you create or save in the newer version may not open in the older version. So if you work on existing projects in waveform 12 maybe create a duplicate of it first.

    I wonder if anyone has tried interfacing an Arturia Minilab/Keylab to this DAW. I've been using Ableton Live Lite which came bundled with mine, and I love it, it has everything I need, except for unlimited tracks and busses, which is really starting to annoy me. I don't really feel that $400 just to get unlimited tracks is worth it, so I'm looking for alternatives. A friend recommended Reaper but it just looks unnecessarily cluttered and messy, especially that I'm already used to Ableton's neat interface. Plus, it reminds me of FL Studio, and I don't wanna go back to that.
    I don't work with electronic music, so I don't really need all of those features, and I mostly have my own third-party plug-ins. I record folk music with real instruments, and I do occasionally use virtual instruments, I use amp sims when I'm plugging my electric directly, but not extensively or to any degree that would require me to have like 6,000 packs of digital clutter. I have more than enough with Analog Lab and Guitar Rig.
    This all seems intriguing, I like how it looks, but I'm just wondering if it will all adapt well with my Minilab and Analog Lab, as it is a relatively new program; and I love Arturia's products, so I'm planning to get more in the future. My workflow on Ableton paired with my controller is such a breeze at this point, which is why I've been reluctant to try out other programs.
    I considered switching to Garageband, because after all, the best stuff...are the ones you already have. But it appears I would have to do a lot of tinkering to get my plug-ins to work with it or for my controller to work with it the way I want to...if it's even possible.
    But I am currently looking for alternatives for all the programs I am using, because the cost just keeps adding each year. I guess I'm just a bit jaded with all these new technologies and digital...stuff. Especially on how companies bait you to keep paying every time to unlock individual features. And if you pay for the whole package, you get loads of stuff you'll never use, which you'll be forced to try to use so that you won't feel as bad for spending a lot of money. I've relied on Adobe programs for 20 years but this new subscription-based fad has just gone too far. It all only gets in the way of actually creating. So, I don't want to keep relying on Audition too and always having that fallback. I want to just have one program for each type of work.
    Can anyone share insights on this program, in terms of hardware mapping? What are the MIDI controllers you've used with it? Functionally, is the free version really enough for mixing and mastering? How is it with plug-in compatibility? Any bugs or issues? Would greatly appreciate your input. Thank you!
    M. Jack

    how do i change the piano sound of stepclips? it just randomly turns on and off, every time i start the program and do smth with stepclips its either the piano sound with its correct notes or normal sounds of what it supposed to be

    • @AudioTechTV
      @AudioTechTV  Před 7 měsíci

      The step clips are just midi info so they don’t carry sound. The way they can generate sounds is by adding an instrument plugin onto the track that has the step clips on it. So just add an instrument plugin and make sure it’s the first plugin in the chain (the furthest thing to the left in the plugin section).
      If you’re using Waveform Free then you can easily add the 4Osc instrument that’s included. Or if you want drums then you can add the micro drum sampler, you’ll need to choose one of the kits after adding the micro drum sampler.

    • @AudioTechTV
      @AudioTechTV  Před rokem +1

      I think there are a lot of music channels that stick to the popular software like FL Studio, Ableton Live, and Pro Tools. Those topics get thousands and thousands of searches per day. Tracktion Waveform still feels like the new guy but they’ve been around for quite a while.
      I did a review of Tracktion T7 around the time I first started my channel and noticed that it got a lot of views and then I noticed there wasn’t a lot of info out there for it so I decided to dig in and create tutorials and follow the software closely. I also really started to like it and started to use it as my main DAW.
      I am not really connected with them. They have a link to my videos on their website and they say I’m a Tracktion Guru. But other then that I’m not connected with the company at all. I’m just a guy that liked their product and decided to make videos on it.

It does some really strange things when recording, sometimes it just doesn’t record what you’ve just played! Really frustrating, other times I just have to turn it off because it randomly decides to miss out the first 2 bars of everything I record and then I’ll turn it on 2 days later and it’s perfectly normal again. Yes. You’ll be able to open your WF11 projects in WF12 and they’ll be the same. If you’re very concerned with that, WF12 doesn’t overwrite 11 so you can have both versions installed if you want. But I haven’t had any issues with older projects opening in 12. I think if you save them in the newer version you won’t be able to open them in the older program anymore though.

      Check to see how much gain your mic requires. Then check to see if your audio interface can provide that much gain. If the audio interface cannot provide enough gain for your mic and you want to stick with that mic you can look for a lab external preamp that has enough gain or get an inline preamp that can add additional clean gain.
      Or look for a mic that doesn’t require more gain then your audio interface can put out. Condenser mics typically don’t require as much gain as dynamic microphones.

      Making music isn’t easy and isn’t something that you just decide “I’m going to make music today” and then you’re automatically a pro because a piece of software does it all for you. It takes time to learn software. If you don’t have time to invest into a piece of software or the interest to learn it then maybe music making isn’t for you.
      You can try Magix music maker. It has some easy to use drag and drop features and if you get the premium version it has a song maker that literally does everything for you.
