the section from October 8th 1995 was really impressive to see 734 go from Helmstetters curve almost all the way to Frostburg with 10 cars after the diesel was cut off.
This is absolutely insane me and my sister and pappy was here I wana say I remember seeing a fella with a video camera it's like a blast from the past.
It’s a shame what condition the 734 is in now. All for that endless money pit that is the 1309. Fantastic video. These definitely were the golden years for the WMSR
Hey I like the 1309! Don't call my boy 1309 a money pit! The reason why it's taking this long is because of a theft! And why they chose 1309 over 734 is that it's able to pull More, it's a younger locomotive, and a locomotive that deserved to run again. Don't get me wrong I like the 734 but do you think that 1309 doesn't deserve some time to shine? Well I think it does! Plus the 1309 is almost ready to go. And the golden age of the WMSR is coming soon again!
The 3 chime used in 1993 and 95 was the WM 3 chime from I2 decapod 1114. The 3 chime in 94 was an IC 3 chime from a scrapped 2-8-2 mikado. The bell from its earlier years was from 2-8-0 # 816.
Ray Larson Was The Member For WMSR! What A Guy!
I worked with him. One of the greats in america!!!.
My hat is off to the engineer who said cut off the diesel, we will start this train on the grade, and make it.
Great video! The inside of 734s cab looked so different back then
Thank you for the upload. Watching that engine start upgrade, on helmsters curve, with 10 heavy coaches was just awesome

My family and I rode this train few years ago! The fried green tomatoes sandwich in frost burg really worth the trip!
Now that's the sound of Mother Nature we all like 0:14😊

@@TRAINGUY-ey3hj so?
Allegheny loco's are cool. Give the 734 some time for restoration.
Great video❤
I rode in 734's cab on June 22, 2013.
Great job!
That sounds like a Southern Pacific GS4 Hancock whistle similar to Southern Pacific 4449's whistle
Yeah I was just going to say that to
Yes it is similar
Yea i just noticed to lol
734 Whistle Sounded Like Southern Pacific Daylight 4449
Exactly
@@brianfalzon6739 It’s an IC 3 chime. The whistle it wore before was a WM 3 chime from 1114.
And in the second part the 734 was ringing the bell and that sound like 1225’s bell
Yo that is Mike Manwiller on board 734. From 2001. I met him twice.
I have a western Maryland Railroad spike HCX WM marked on top
Who was the old fella that ran the locomotive in the 90's. He was retired Amtrak if I remember
734 has SP daylight whistle lol
No. The 734 had the Illinois central 3 chime. And the 4449 has a star brass chime chime. Sorry bud.
Who was the engineer on the 734 from 1992 - 1993 season?
93 to 94 seasons?? Howard aka Hoagie Hovater
Thank you.
@@zachareybivens641 long since passed away. His name was on one of the coaches
