  • This cab ride was aboard the 1916 Baldwin steam locomotive operated on the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad from Cumberland to Frostburg, Maryland. On the way to Frostburg, the rain caused the engine to slip and spin it's wheels. This was while going upgrade on a mountain. The engine backed up and was uncoupled from the cars. Then it proceeded a short ways and sanded the track. After going back and coupling up with the cars, the train was able to make it up the hill.

Any one notice the steam chest pressure guge when he opened the throttle. Pretty neat to watch it move with the throttle

He puts the glove on his right hand, sticks it out the window and pulls the prickly whistle rope with his bare left hand.

Your reply to my comment indicates a common culture of "cuteness" and showing off among your group. A bad accident will cure you of that. Steam locomotives are not toys and should not be played with that way. Burns are common among steam engineers and firemen form sudden leaks and the glass gauge breaking open You'll learn. Grow up. He knows what's hot and what ain't hot. When he was fourteen I got him involved in a scenic railway steam train and he learned railroading from the ground up. I'm proud of him. He is in a high management position with Amtrak now. He can operate that locomotive better than most. He was born to do it.

Yeah, its rub on the western maryland scenic railroad, its a passenger train and you can pay for a ride. Its relatively expensive, but if you have the money its totally worth it!
