Ray Larson Was The Member For WMSR! What A Guy!
Great video! The inside of 734s cab looked so different back then
Fantastic Video 🚂🚃🚃🚃😀!,1:45:43
He's a great Train Engineer and he's doing his job very well, 30:50🚂🚃🚃🚃

Great video❤
Who was the old fella that ran the locomotive in the 90's. He was retired Amtrak if I remember
12:47
Never was a locomotive more meant for a railroad than 734 was for Western Maryland Scenic. Boy did they f*** up.
.
Ray Larson and Daniel Pluta were the other members for WMSR
Many years ago I would attend the Oregon Steam Up or Steam Off in Brooks and liked it but then the prices went up and I stopped going.
I have a western Maryland Railroad spike HCX WM marked on top
Limiting that engine to 45 mph or whatever is like buying a Corvette and only driving it in parades.
I am big boy fan
I worked with him. One of the greats in america!!!.
My family and I rode this train few years ago! The fried green tomatoes sandwich in frost burg really worth the trip!
Great job!
Zz A
I love the Western Maryland in the 90's! I wish I could've ride on this too.
N&W 611 is another amazing steam locomotives, I have saw this engine at the Strasburg Railroad back in September 5th 2021.
The whistle sounds like a Delaware & Hudson Challenger
That sounds like a Southern Pacific GS4 Hancock whistle similar to Southern Pacific 4449's whistle
Yeah I was just going to say that to
Yes it is similar
Yea i just noticed to lol
ICU steam whistle 3 chim whistle?
The 3 chime used in 1993 and 95 was the WM 3 chime from I2 decapod 1114. The 3 chime in 94 was an IC 3 chime from a scrapped 2-8-2 mikado. The bell from its earlier years was from 2-8-0 # 816.
Hi Eric I'm Ray Thomas, one of the brothers that took these videos. Please give me a call when you can. 352-430-3622
My hat is off to the engineer who said cut off the diesel, we will start this train on the grade, and make it.
Thank you for the upload. Watching that engine start upgrade, on helmsters curve, with 10 heavy coaches was just awesome
734 has SP daylight whistle lol
No. The 734 had the Illinois central 3 chime. And the 4449 has a star brass chime chime. Sorry bud.
I use to attend that show back in the late 70’s up until 91 when I moved to Florida. Sure do miss the show up there.
the section from October 8th 1995 was really impressive to see 734 go from Helmstetters curve almost all the way to Frostburg with 10 cars after the diesel was cut off.
Who was the engineer on the 734 from 1992 - 1993 season?
93 to 94 seasons?? Howard aka Hoagie Hovater
Thank you.
@@zachareybivens641 long since passed away. His name was on one of the coaches
734 Whistle Sounded Like Southern Pacific Daylight 4449
Exactly
@@brianfalzon6739 It’s an IC 3 chime. The whistle it wore before was a WM 3 chime from 1114.
And in the second part the 734 was ringing the bell and that sound like 1225’s bell
Marshall I should suggest
Yo that is Mike Manwiller on board 734. From 2001. I met him twice.
2:37 voice crack in the whistle also you got a great view of the alco 2-6-0 Awesome
2:37 voice crack in the whistle also you got a great view of the 2-6-0 Awesome
It’s a shame what condition the 734 is in now. All for that endless money pit that is the 1309. Fantastic video. These definitely were the golden years for the WMSR
Hey I like the 1309! Don't call my boy 1309 a money pit! The reason why it's taking this long is because of a theft! And why they chose 1309 over 734 is that it's able to pull More, it's a younger locomotive, and a locomotive that deserved to run again. Don't get me wrong I like the 734 but do you think that 1309 doesn't deserve some time to shine? Well I think it does! Plus the 1309 is almost ready to go. And the golden age of the WMSR is coming soon again!
@@TRAINGUY-ey3hj so?
Allegheny loco's are cool. Give the 734 some time for restoration.
The whistle sounds like a combination of SP&S 700 and SP 4449. Would have been great to see 734 do all of the pulling without the diesel. That whistle salute almost made me cry. I did a similar whistle salute for my cousin who passed away, on the trolley that I run. It was the most difficult whistle signal I've had to do.
50:32 that's trespassing on railroad property. No one should be riding a quad on railroad property.
yeah you tell them!
I rode in 734's cab on June 22, 2013.
This is absolutely insane me and my sister and pappy was here I wana say I remember seeing a fella with a video camera it's like a blast from the past.
Yup it dose

Great video! Nice job capturing this locomotive!
well at least it not the great flood of 2016. lol, wow time travel
yeah went back a few years for this one. It's good to see your layout and house coming back together.
lmfao that's my car in the frame at 3:04 =P I distinctly remember giving a shave and a haircut after going through that crossing xD
I'm in the vestibule in NS-43! Great job on the vid!!
Nice job
Thanks for the excellent video. I was on board Sunday afternoon, and was unable to get any exterior photos. I placed a link on my facebook page to your video, giving you credit, so others can see the train. I hope you don't mind.
No I don't mind at all. thanks
Great video. Where you in Haymarket, VA on 8:15 in the video? If I'm correct there is a very old gas station to the right of the RR tracks. I used to live on Turner Rd. in Haymarket. The first train I ever saw was Southern 4501, the day we moved to Haymarket back in the early 80s. I wish I could have been there this week to see 611. Thanks for the video.
Yes I was in Haymarket and yes there is an old gas station there, but it no long has gas just a small convenience store. Thanks
Back when I lived in Haymarket, back in the early to mid 80s, the only thing in the downtown was a 7-11 and a steel mill. None of them are there now. They were right there when you got off I-66. I was out there around 4 years ago and they have a Walmart and a ton of stores there now. Even the elementary school I went to is gone, Turner Elementary. Ahhh......memories.
