  • A interesting day at Wigan steam museum with the engine in steam and classic car exhibits...The event was started by Miss Manchester 2014.
    Thanks to Bill and all the staff for keeping me informed what was happening and putting on a good show..Thanks Steve..

    Thank you, stestepney, for the wiki reference. Although, I didn’t find what I am looking for there. My questions really are:
    When these beautiful engines were first built, did they look as they do now?
    Or
    Where they more industrial and less ornate?

    Absolutely beautiful craftsmanship and precision in engineering. I am afraid these were before my time, and have the following question:
    were these system exactly as they were in their operational day?
    Specifically, is the appearance and exterior color scheme, brass and steel the same back in the day as what we see now?
    THIS should be the “alternate energy source” ! I am an engineer (electronics and software), so I understand conservation of energy and that it takes energy to make energy, but these systems are beautiful, calming, and practical. Thank you for sharing.

      Hi Marie,i think the reason its run at half speed is to cut down the ware and tare after all it is a museum piece now Thanks Steve ..

    A must see when I visit the UK again. Are they open only at certain times or year round? Like the kids dressed in costumes of the era incidentally.

      There's 2 other big ones in Lancashire and the winding engine at astley green and 4 other weaving shed engines dotted around
