    Hello American and French friends,
We can't reduce a country such as France to 10 places.
France has a privileged geographical position which allows it to have very different climates from North (rather cold) to South (rather hot) and from East (dry) to West (wet). Very diverse countries border the nation. What forged its history.
It's located just opposite the *United Kingdom* to the North and only separated from it by a small arm of the *English Channel.* It's bordered to the East by *Belgium* and *Germany,* to the southeast by *Switzerland* and *Italy,* and to the southwest by *Spain,* to name only the main ones.
*France,* therefore, shares some common points with these tremendous historical nations, both culturally, linguistically, and architecturally speaking.
This country has two high mountain massifs (The Pyrenees and the Alps), one medium mountain (the Massif Central, which goes in altitude from Burgundy to Occitania), three seas (the North Sea and the English Channel to the North, and the Mediterranean Sea to the South), an ocean (the Atlantic Ocean which borders the entire western facade), five world-renowned vineyards (the Bordeaux region to the West, that of *Burgundy in the center, Alsace to the East, Occitanie, and Provence to the South).
It's also a country comprised of different regions, each with its own history and culture spanning two thousand years.
This is why not only can the landscapes be very diversified from one place to another, but also very different architecturally speaking (color of houses, roofs, style of construction, materials used, etc.).
It's all in one country, the size of Texas. So therefore, to switch from one style to another, the distances are very short.
    Have a pleasant week.
    Peace, folks.

About the vegetation it's because we live in a temperate climate where it rains a lot in most of the territory so the trees and the lawn have enough water to stay green. In the south of France it's different in summer

I live in Nice in the French Riviera. A great town to visit with lots of places around it. It's a one hour drive to the southern Alps, so you can visit Nice and take a swim in the mediterranean sea and then go hiking in the mountains in the same day. It's a beautiful region and definitely one of the greatest place on earth to visit.
Also, this region is famous for its Rallyes, with great mountain roads ready to be raced on.

Visited France twice in the early 80s. Loved both trips. Spent three days in Paris each time then ventured out to see smaller towns and villages. Visited Avignon and saw the Pont du Gard. Mont St-Michel is beautiful but so touristy, it's just one souvenir shop after another and so was a bit of a disappointment (to me). My favourite place was St-Cirq-Lapopie. Medieval stalls, renaissance homes, overlooking the Lot river, home to many artisans, it was just the most gorgeous place.

@@TheDemouchetsREACT Tourist spots like Mont St-Michel or St-Cirq Lapopie (or Rocamadour or others) are small and very localized. 2 hours are generally enough to visit them and as soon as you move a few km away, the places are less touristy and calmer. For example, I like to see Mont St-Michel from the coast in the early morning or at dusk, it's very spectacular, but I never go to the island, there are only souvenir shops and expensive and not great restaurants (and what's more, it's crowded).
There are 2 exceptions: Paris and the French Riviera. These two places are large and very touristy. For French people like me, the best time to go to Paris is in August. Most Parisians are on vacation, Paris is given over to tourists, it is much calmer and quieter than the rest of the year. Conversely, the French Riviera is very pretty, but you should never go there in the summer, it's full of people and everything is very expensive.

By the way, when you asked about the Mont Saint Michel (what you called the “Little Island” 😊 - “who lives there” - I’m ashamed to admit that I was like :
“Wait, does anyone even live there ? 😲” cause I never thought about it 😂 I always heard people say they’ve been there, never hear anyone saying they live there 😌
I just googled it and that is basically what I thought : it really is just a place where a few Monks and Nuns live but it is not a city. More a medieval religious landmark 😉

For the « aiguille du midi » you have to take a cable car that brings you to almost 3800m above sea level or around 12450 ft
Price is around 70€/person for going up and down, it’s a little bit expensive but really worth it and this is not something you can really experience anywhere else, and if you’re brave enough you can go all the way back down on skies/snowboard, it isn’t that hard in itself but it is quite long to go down and you need some experience free riding and I would recommend getting a guide as there are some crevasses that could lead to injuries or worst if you fall in them.
Not trying to scare anyone but most of the incidents occurred when people aren’t prepared enough, same for the Mont-Blanc ascension.

So, in french, it is prononced "De" like "the" without the tongue stuff you do in english or like "demi-god" and "mouchet" you are right, don't pronounce the -t- and it is like a "ey" word ending...but cut it very short as the "y" .
And, the Island "Mont saint Michel" is a part of french normandy .

We are spoilt and have a holiday home in Carcassone and it is worth the effort. It is very very lovely and the food is fantastic. The reason why we have green grass is because we use water butt's to use grey water, and in the North it rains a lot....not like Wales or Manchester but rain is key. At the moment we are in a drought and have had terrible heat but hopefully it is an aberration.

But more seriously about the video, it kinda makes me sad that the french Basque country is never mentionned in all these videos. We have great places to visit too! Like "La corniche", a road along the coast a few miles away from Spain, a spot in the Pyrénées like the "Aiguille du Midi" called "Pic du Midi" where you have a 360° view on the mountains too, the "Cirque de Gavarnie" where the moutain has a U shape with a magestic waterfall, some pretty nice prehistoric caves, you can go to the top of "La Rhune" in one of the oldest rack-railway in Europe (built in 1924), since you're from Louisiana I bet you like spices so you can visit Espelette, the home of the Espelette pepper... and we have the original city of Bayonne! Also, a lot of Basques moved to the US and especially Louisiana and 3 basques brothers are the founders of Bâton Rouge :)
Yep, a lot to see and do in here!

    Bonjour d’Occitanie (France)

By the way, I went on a website which lists the number of people named after a specific last name in France, by historical period, and apparently your family name has gone extinct in France now, some people still bear the name of "Mouchet", however. Wish you to fulfill that dream of visiting France, and to be guided through your visit by the nicest French people, cos you're very nice people yourselves.

Couple more points for you before you plan a European visit. France is about a fifteenth of the size of the lower 48, and is three times larger than New England. Some uninformed visitors to the USA still think they can get off the plane in New York, spend two weeks driving to Los Angeles, and will have seen the whole country. The same applies in reverse, please limit your expectations on how much you will travel. You will see much more, if that doesn't sound odd. Also, a question that nobody asks themselves is 'What do i hope - or expect - to take to take home from this ?' Different answer from everyone of course, but it should be on your mind at the planning stage as it will keep you on the road to a successful visit, and one that hopefully you would like to repeat. Long range question. You have plenty of subscribers in Europe, have you considered that many of us would be very happy to extend some hospitality to you during a visit ? Some people can offer a couple of bedrooms for a couple of nights, others lunch, or dinner, or can host a day out somewhere. You might like to test the water, the feedback would be interesting, wouldn't it ? Regards

God has nothing to do with the cliff of Etretat, it is erosion that created this arch and the church. A word of advice, if you come to France one day (I hope you do) know that we are in a SECULAR country and that it is frowned upon to talk about God all the time. Religion is a personal matter, respectable, whatever it is, but personal.
If you can, if you come to France, come at least two weeks, don't confine yourself to Paris. For Mont St Michel, don't go there on August 15th, it's the feast day of "Marie"and the mountain is invaded by tourists and pilgrims. You can barely walk in the streets.
