The 1994 Australian Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held on 13 November 1994 at the Adelaide Street Circuit. It was the sixteenth and final race of the 1994 Formula One World Championship. The 81-lap race was won by Nigel Mansell driving for the Williams team after starting from pole position. Gerhard Berger finished second in a Ferrari car with Martin Brundle third for the McLaren team.
The race is remembered, besides being the closing of one of the most tragic seasons in the history of the category, also for an incident involving the two title contenders Damon Hill and Michael Schumacher which forced both to retire and resulted in Schumacher winning the World Drivers' Championship. Also notable was the last appearance in a Formula One Grand Prix of the first incarnation of Team Lotus, previously seven-time Constructors' Champions. It was also the 31st and last Grand Prix victory of Nigel Mansell's Formula One career. As of 2020, this was the last Formula One race where the number of entrants exceeded the number of places on the starting grid. This would also prove to be the last Grand Prix for Christian Fittipaldi, Franck Lagorce, Michele Alboreto, Hideki Noda, David Brabham, JJ Lehto, and Paul Belmondo, and the first Grand Prix for Jean-Denis Délétraz.

When you see where they started, it makes it even more impressive that Berger and Brundle ended up finishing 2nd and 3rd behind Mansell. It was also one of the oldest podiums of the era - as Brundle notes in his autobiography, "Talk about a load of old duffers - our combined age was 111!"

Berger even could win in if that wasn't for a mistake and offering the lead to Mansell on a golden plate.

This was Mansell's last victory and also the final race for Ferrari's legend Alboreto. It was also the race where Schumi did a "thingy".

I watched this "thingy" more than once and i discovered, that schumi tried to defend his position and damon tried to get into a gap, which he knew would be not last for long. Maybe damon should tried to keep his cool and back off. He would catched schumi later anyway with that damage on schumis car. So this crash was 50/50 on both drivers.

@@lordracer7743 In other words - a racing incident, plain and simple, which is why no one was penalised. Schumacher knew exactly how far he can "go" and he did it (Hill said he would've done the same to him if he was in same situation).
Now what he did to Villeneuve in 1997... That was just stupidity.

Whoa. Brabham and Noda 2 seconds faster than their "pay driver" teammates? (Actually, Noda was a pay driver, too.)

David should be praised for his bravery to carry on racing despite losing Roland.

Deletraz tbh was not level at all : always 2-3 seconds behind his teamate and 6-7 seconds behind pole. I guess that justifies why he only raced 3 times ever in F1

This race remembered when Michael Schumacher took Damon Hill and himself out from the race and despite this, he took his first F1 World Champion title
