- Tutorial on jazz concepts with George Gershwin's 'They Can't Take That Away From Me' . In this video I show the chords and some of the common re-harmonization choices. I also get funky with the diminished scale. I go from simple topics to more advanced ones. For more videos explaining basic concepts, please watch my other videos. Here's a playlist

The number of views on this channel should increase at least a hundred- if not a thousandfold. Some of the very best jazz piano tuition material available on CZcams at the moment, from a no-nonsense teacher.
I've played piano for years, yet always looked at jazz as some foreign language. I listen to it often, as I am now, and still scratch my head at the formulas. I can handle so many genres quite easily. I'm waiting for the jazz gods to decend upon me and enligten me ❤❤!!!
Thanks Tony

Hi Fezzy, do you ever just mess around on the piano? That's jazz. Formulas, scales, chords, are just ways to organize your materials
@@TonyWinston oh , I most cetainly do! Othertimes I try the 2, 5, 1 formula but find it confining. There's a jazz language that I'm somewhat missing. I'll follow you and hope to get it 👍 I'm watching you do a chromatic bass run over much of the keys above...D, C, Bd, Ab, F, G, E, and so on...and ask myself "what's the underlying formula?" I improv all the time..it's a way of life...but it doesn't quite sound like the jazz that I want to create Sometimes it does.
Thanks for replying ❤
Fezzy
I really should spend several days pouring exclusively over this superb video. You are so generous to share your remarkable, excellent insights. Thank you!!!
UPDATE: Two and half hours of continuous work with this video was "all" it took me. It was like getting a free $150 lesson that I can review over and over until I understand each concept. Fantastic the amount of knowledge you impart, and so wonderful to be able to review it over and over without taxing your patience!!!
Thank you for your analysis and pointers. Much appreciated. I especially like the Gbo7 with the F, D, Ab and B extentions... and the minor triads as well. My teacher has told me about this and you gave it additional meaning with a practical musical example. Very nice.
Thanks so much for your videos.
You are always my resource when I need to clarify some chord of a standard.
Finally find a B part that sounds right.
Thank you ! All classes are very useful !
You are a great teacher!!!!
Thanks Elizabeth!
Beautiful! Thank you. ❤
8:48 see Gm7 instead of the Bb most times and then C7b9 instead of the Eo7 (which is essentially the same thing like you pointed out)
Awesome version of one of my all time fave tunes from the Great American Songbook. Kudos, young man ! Please keep up the good work ! 🙂

Ella said Fred Astaire's versions of the G.A.S. were the best.
G.A.S. ?? oh , the Great American Songbook
C minor in the first ending might sound better.
