straight up wrong with not needing a backplate. Ram gets to 190f 90c- ish the GDDR6X Chips Die at 105c and thats in a 011d with a 18c room.
    GET A BACKPLATE.

according to what I learned, the backplate is just to protect against shorts and it can protect against light liquid spills in some cases, but I don't think you really "need" one. czcams.com/video/OBsxuNXyDJk/video.html

Please tell me what are the thickness of the thermal pads for this card. I noticed you cut out the part where you remove the bracket that holds the backplate at 2:38, it seems it has a thin layer of thermal pad too coverting the mosfets, I want to change the thermal pads but put the original cooler back up, So I also need to know the thickness of those other thermal pads in the bracket.
    Thanks a lot.

    • @sephirotic87

Turns out front thermal pads: 2mm
      Back thermal pads: 2.5
(Tried 2mm, not good contact, 3mm is too thick and bows the card. You'll have to sandwich a 2mm + 0.5mm thermal pad in the back).
Front bracket mosfet thermal pads: 3mm.

All the 3090's have their memory running at the same speed so I would add a fan pointing at the back of your card until you get your EK backplate installed. I though all the 3090's used thermal putty on the VRM stages (I know EVGA & ASUS do)... made your job easier with that Zotac model having thermal pads :)
Personally, I'm waiting for the EVGA 3090 FTW3 block to drop from EK (on their notify list) so I can plumb my card back into my loop.

That's where it gets its cooling surface from, the PCB itself is much shorter as you can see in the video. For my NZXT Rogue it's the perfect card since other models are quite high. I only have 2.5 to 3 cm overhead clearance, but the case can easily handle long cards.

he wasnt asking gpu core temp, asking tJunct. like from hwinfo. I'd be wildly curious to see if this thing isnt throttling down to ~3060 levels of performance if you never added cooling to the back :O i received a founders that was seemingly defective, as the back plate never touched the memory, and it overheated nearly immediately (again, the memory as measured by tJunct, not the core) in anything more taxing than web browsing. dont torch your expensive toy!
