Pro tip boys: always, ALWAYS use the cheap, white, drip style coffee filters for all your wipe needs period!

The best cleaners. Jefromobile on CZcams taught me that trick. Works great.

its been years since i had to assemble an engine. it was a nice refresher watching this little series, but i do have a question. why didnt you measure bearing clearance? main crank clearance or the connecting rod clearance but yet you measured crank end play im curious to why.

I did but not in the series. The crankshaft was a brand new OEM unit from Toyota. I had pre measured all the journals and did the math backwards against the rod ends and mains trusting the King bearing specs to be what they should. “Do as I say not as I do” 😂. Doing it again I would have spent the extra couple hours. With a new OEM crank and an excellent main honing job I hacked it.

I definitely would not have used a microfiber rag. I would have used a brand new white cotton T-shirt

Use coffee filters dont ever use rags of any kind. Denatured alcohol and coffee filters.

Did you re-use the original bolts?

Yea, ideally you don’t want to do this. But buddy had a brand new set that I was able to compare lengths. Since they weren’t stretched, I sent them again. They are not yeild bolts, so you should be okay.

use coffee filter instead of rags. they literally leave ZERO!

A painting tack cloth works real good for cleaning bearings and bearing surfaces

you say not to lube the back and RealStreetPerformance says to lube the backside...

Imo, and the key here is MY opinion, you want nothing between cap (bearing clamping) surfaces except metal to metal. My theory is the thin layer of oil combined with potential excessive heat could cause dissipation of the oil layer and change the clamping torque down the road. Just how I’ve always done it.

Real st says to lube with very thin transfluid so it doesn't change the clearance
