No, these are not the drums from the album, exactly. You would be able to hear that terrible snare sample clearly on the quiet verses of the album, but you don't, cause its not there. These multitracks are ripped from a video game, Guitar Hero or something. Most likely the sound engineers who worked on the game added the snare and kick samples on top of the existing tracks to beef them up. I'm pretty certain they didn't have access to the drum mix that Andy Wallace created, since he didn't make stem recordings of the individual drums. He just made a stereo mix. The second thing I'd like to clarify is Andy Wallace used a snare sample to trigger reverb. So you hear the echo of a snare sample mixed with Dave Grohl's actual snare track.

@@drum_tracks Right, the "ring" of the snare drum is normal. Dave usually played a wooden ( I think birch ) snare, I can almost gaurantee this is a typical metal Tama snare. To avoid the "ping" you'd have to loosen the actual snare strap on the bottom of the drum but then you would get more of a rattle and buzz sound. Yes Dave hits very hard, but he also positions his snare kind of high so as the stick comes down, not only does the tip hit the center of the drum head, but the side of the stick hits the metal edge called the hoop. This causes the lugs (screws) to loosen and change the tuning of the drum. Over time you'll need to replace the hoop because it's bent to shit. I learned to play drums by watching and listening to Dave. I know every move, every hit, every detail. I've studied him for 32 years. I have a masters degree in Grohlology. I could be his replacement !
