    Good Morning Alex! Nice catch on the seal. Wouldn't think it would do that being nicely lubed up like you did. As a Tech at Marathon Petroleum, we had a saying. Check and double check your work, as it always pays dividends. Indeed, a nice reminder Alex! Take care my friend! Cheers and blessings from Motown.

    Almost wish I had gone with the 289 or 302 with my 64-200 straight six Falcon....almost. Too cookie cutter plus would have had to do the tranny too.
    You always show great videos and I like that you take the time to explain every detail no matter how small. Great attention to detail and catching the "little things" that are so important.

    Hi. I would like to thank you for your channel . Very helpful
    Question, I have a very stubborn harmonic balancer fastener that won’t budge to remove .. I put a pry bar on flywheel. Breaker doesn’t work. Pb blaster , nope . Is it possible to use an impact wrench and would this possibly damage flywheel if too much torque?
    Thanks

    • @AlfsMustangGarage
      @AlfsMustangGarage  Před 7 měsíci +2

      Are you referring to the large center bolt? I will usually use an impact to remove that, and then it wouldn't be necessary to hold the flywheel.

    What weight should it be for a 289 have you a part number for that one mine I just noticed has a slight wobble time to change

      Should be a 28 OZ balancer for the 289. Here is a link to the one I bought for this engine. amzn.to/44ZaqWT

    Hi, nice v6 to v8 conversion vids. Anyway. I have a question, I recently replaced the front main seal and noticed a small leak of oil coming from the harmonic balancer bolt. Torqued to spec too. This was after it ran for a while , Not the seal. Any idea why and how to fix ?
    Thanks

    • @AlfsMustangGarage
      @AlfsMustangGarage  Před měsícem +2

      Humm, well there shouldn't be anything coming from the balancer bolt or the threads of the crankshaft. Are you running a stock type balancer?

    • @NightOwl444
      @NightOwl444 Před měsícem

      @@AlfsMustangGarage yes stock balancer, I removed the center bolt to confirm and it’s not a lot of oil , but def is. I’m surprised . The seal is good, dry . I did add oil to lube the area before installing balancer like you suggested . Could it be that ?
      I guess rtv on around the bolt and washer would not be a good idea if leaking ? Thanks

    I noticed you did not apply locative. When I installed mine, I applied a liberal amount of ‘RED’ loctite to the threads. Did I screw myself by doing this and how difficult will it be if/and when I have to remove it. Any ideas.

    • @AlfsMustangGarage
      @AlfsMustangGarage  Před rokem +1

      Well to be honest I'm not really sure. More than likely you'll be fine. May need a good impact to get that bolt out. I think some people like to do that so you didn't necessarily do anything wrong.

      @AlfsMustangGarage sending you a photo of my balancer. I marked my timing marks. What does it mean if my pointer, is the the left of TDC instead of the right where it is in the picture? When I have my #1 cylinder at TDC, my pointer is at the 12 degrees mark. But to the left of TDC on the balancer. Not to the right of TDC. Does this mean my distributer is off 180 degrees? I hope your getting what I'm saying.
