    Carlsbro CSD130
    Good: VERY compact, pads don’t wobble much and feels solid. The rubber pads feel good
    Bad: TERRIBLE sounds, and it costs $50 too much
    DD Beta (no kick pad)
    Good: It extends like crazy. I’m over six foot tall, and I can make this thing almost TOO big for me. Actually has a kick pad. Sounds are very raw and might appeal to some.
    Bad: It doesn’t feel very high quality. Module is confusing. No kick pad
    Behringer XD8USB
    Good: One of the better sound modules on this price range, solid pad sizes
    Bad: multipin cable, not a fan of that, can’t use double kick pedal.
    Simmons SD300
    Good: comes preassembled, usb midi out,
    Bad: Nothing in this kit really stands out honestly. It's not the best sounding module, and the pads aren’t really that big either. Its also doesn’t use a kick drum pad.
    Alesis Nitro
    Good: has some of the best sounds in this price range. Has the kick drum tower. And is one of the newest kits at this price range.
    Bad: the pads aren’t quite as big as the Behringer

    I need to mention that I believe all these drumsets have USB MIDI (not confirmed), in that chart for each set I was was just mentioning if they have the old style MIDI connections as well. Also the weight listed for each set if the "shipping weight."

    I have the Simmons SD300, as i run it through software, sound was not the problem. My biggest problem is that the set just doesn't register all the hits if you are hitting multiple pads at the same time. Sometimes hitting the pads harder will correct it, but not always. Quite a few amazon reviewers say the same thing. I wish i had done more research before i purchased, but i planned on upgrading anyway eventually.

  • @greggroth7815
    @greggroth7815 Před 7 lety

    Good comparison, Justin. I've got the Simmons SD300 set. One lesser known fact about this and the SD500 is that there's an iPhone/iPad app where you can connect using a camera cable and change the volume and sound of the pads, play music off of your phone, record, etc. Mostly the same stuff as the controller but in a much more visual and intuitive format. To me, this raises the bar on the $300 drum sets. There's a firmware update you have to do first that's available on the Simmons web site. Check it out!

I've got EZdrummer on my mac, and I'm looking for a great feeling electronic drumset without much of the money being packed into the module! I'm an experienced drummer with acoustic drumkits and would like to have good pads and equipment rather than sounds. What are some choices for me? Love the videos. You're doing great, dude.

  • @Swenglish
    @Swenglish Před 6 lety

    You seem to prioritize large drums. From a perspective of preferring to not take up a lot of space, is there a decently capable compact MIDI kit (let's say internal sounds don't matter) with preferably a mesh snare (the toms don't need to be mesh), chokable cymbals and an OK kick, at a relatively low price point? You make it sound as if size is the thing that costs a lot of money, but I'm not into things that take up space (which is why I want to get rid of my acoustic kit in the first place), so I'm curious about whether there's any quality to be found in the more compact category. Or is it better, then, to customize?

  • @KnuckleHeadMusicUK
    @KnuckleHeadMusicUK Před 5 lety

    Would it be worth buying a cheap e-drum kit/set for now (while spending another 18 months saving up) and programming custom drum sounds into the module? Although I have no idea which modules will accept your own sounds. I'm thinking in terms of using a drum kit as a midi key-board, in a way, just with drum sounds. Of course the feel will be naff and I'd like more symbols etc hence a temporary kit. It would be ideal for non-released recordings at home. Plus I can practise on it, and always record in a studio on an acoustic kit. Or should I just keep saving and wait to get a nice drum kit? Thoughts? Thanks..

    @65 Drums What do you think about sets like the Carlsbro CSD400 Drum Kit? Is it better to choose Alesis Nitro Mesh? Have you had any contact with WHD 600-DX Mesh Electronic Drum Kit / Digital Drums 470X Mesh Electronic Drum Kit? I'm from the UK and I'm looking for electronic drum kits on the local market, so if you can advise me which one costing from 350-500 pounds would be the best to start the adventure with percussion and let me play it long enough to be able to learn something and I don't have to sell it right away, or maybe it's better to add some money and buy for example, Alesis Command Mesh (~569 pounds)? I also care about good learning functions in the drum kit, so if a given brand has a better and easier to learn learning program, then there will be an additional plus for the given set for me. PS I saw your video about Alesis Command Mesh and Surge Mesh, so maybe better option will be Yamaha DTX522K (~550 pounds)?

    Hello Bro from INDIA. I'm on the verge of buying a Carlsbro CS D600 - Do you have it demo'ed? I couldn't see it though. Anyway, it is a UK based company. It has a decent build with mesh pads all around and even a moving highhat Rod and stand and it standsout at this price point with all these features. This csd600 is Carlsbro's latest and top of the line. It has midi USB. So, I really don't bother the stock sounds and I'm going to use it in my home studio. And I am a Bass player for 20 years and not a drummer.
    I'm curious to know, does the CsD600 work seamlessly with the SD 3 0 VST? Or MY KONTAKT Studio Drummer? When using Midi, and that too when using the finest like SD 3, does it really matter (other than the number of pads or diameter of the mesh and of course some artificial feel due to plasticity of cymbols) the model of the electronic kit you play? I guess, be it top of the line Roland or Alesis, they all sounds the same with VST, Don't they? Thanks in advance for your help!!

      I've heard that the cymbals and pads of Alesis kits are made by millennium and are rebranded as Alesis products. so they will be as durable as the Alesis pads. The sound module will be a different story, I don't know about it.

    Good day..i like watching your videos...I am new to all this stuff and have a question...i have a PC (windows) ,the Focusrite Scarlett Solo bundle with Pro Tools First..I am wanting to record drum tracks..also gotta mention that I'm on a budget and looking to buy the Alesis Nitro...is it possible to record drum tracks with the Alesis Nitro kit, if so, how would you go about doing it?..is it better to go the MIDI trigger route to get more of an authentic acoustic drum sound for recording?...what would you recommend?

    • @65Drums
      @65Drums  Před 7 lety +1

      Yes that would work :) If you want the best sound, get EZdrummer 2. Or just stick with the Nitro at first and try recording that. There are a million ways to do this, sometimes it makes it all confusing. But you're on the right track. I like the plan :)

    Hey great videos... Have you ever used the Roland HD-1 v-drums? I bought a set, and am currently using the sounds from the module that came with it, but I would like to hook it up to Ableton Live and run addictive drums or something like that to get some better sounds. Is that possible using any MIDI to USB cable, and my Mac? Just trying to figure it out before I go on amazon to buy the cable....also, do I need some sort of audio interface? I have a Mac computer so was thinking the built-in audioface would suffice. Any tips is appreciated! Thanks for the videos.

      +alex vozzella I've played the kit, I like it a lot. It has USB midi, so you can connect it. Start with just a USB cable, if you encounter Latency get an audio interface

    Have a friend that has the carlbro 130 and I messed with it a few hours and I disagree, to me the sounds were pretty good for the money he payed (250usd) and as I played it I really started to get used to the layout.I was thinging damn I could buy 2 of these kits for 500 and have 1 as the main kit and then the second off to the side a bit for latin vibe kit. I seen that you can change the tone up or down of every pad too .. so everything is tuneable .I was impressed

  • @purpledc1
    @purpledc1 Před 6 lety

    one thing to remember though is that these kits actually are impressive to those who have never owned drums at all. I love my nitro kit. But I'm a guitarist who only dabbles in drums. But for my needs it actually is better than most. Even the sounds. There is some pretty deep editing that needs to be explored to get the most out of it.

    Quick question, is there a big difference between the Alesis Nitro Kit and the Alesis DM6 Nitro Kit. I am currently using the old (5 years or so) DM6 Session Kit from Alesis and I would like to upgrade to either the Nitro or the DM6 Nitro. What I really like about the DM6 is that the rack is very sturdy (in my opinion) and that the cymbals are good and size, I never liked the tom pads too much. I really would like your opinion and I would really appreciate if you would help me with this, thank you so much, Cheers!

    • @65Drums
      @65Drums  Před 7 lety

      The difference between the two is the style of pads and the rack. The Alesis Nitro has the new generation of pads, and a better rack. The DM6 Nitro has the same pads that you have on your kit right now. Out of all the kits you mentioned, only the Alesis Nitro is currently in production.

      TRUE.... the XD80USB"s pads have dual zones...don't be confused tho. the kit he is talking about in the video is the Behringer XD8USB! not 80. the XD8USB runes about $329....the XD80USB is $399. the XD80 basically looks identical...the 80 has the dual zone pads and i dont think the XD8 has that. and ofcourse the 80s module is better with more capabilites

    hey man! great vid! I found it informative on my search for my first electric drum set. May I have your suggestion on what should I buy? please and thank you for your time. here's a list on what I'm looking for:
    1. budget is 500 - 700
    2. needs a double pedal feature in the module. does not matter if I can use the hi hat pedal as an extra bass pedal honestly
    3. Will be playing for 2- 3 hours almost everyday
    4. won't be moved at all.
    5. Will be used to record. while recording, I would like to hear what I'm playing via headphones or speakers
    6. size of drums doesn't matter. I have a big garage.
    7. Will be using drums strictly for record and band practice.
    8. durability. Will be learning a lot of old school thrash/death/black metal drum techniques and lessons, so the drums are gonna be able to take quite a beating. not aggressively mind you lol
    ...and that's all I can think about for now. any help would be splendid! thanks again!

      Yeah I've heard that Alesis sets don't last forever. Since you intend this kit to be a long term buy, I'd say anything used from roland would be good. Maybe a used Roland TD9k or TD11k. Hook up one of those up to Ezdrummer 2 with a metal preset and you'll get a great sound.

      65 Drums aw man, I can't seem to find any new or used TD9K OR TD11K in my area unfortunately /: would you recommend the DTX430K or the DTX450K? This will be my first electric drum set( actually my first drum set ever) that I will own so I really want my first set to be a very smart purchase. I've played the kit at a local shop and I found it very comfortable to play (: tho I wish Yamaha came with a mesh snare but maybe I'm asking for to much at this point with my budget.

      Hi Jordan most kit's in the $500 on up in price will respond no matter how fast you play. The one exception is the if you play something like fast double kick stuff. You'll need to spend at least $800-$1000 to get good responsiveness from fast double kick pedal playing.
