As an Asian person I give you much props! Studied acupuncture in China for a month and learned to clean your rice! Thank you for spreading the word!

Great, easy to follow tips which are practical and fuel-saving. Thank you. You mentioned it might be best in a heavy bottomed pan: some of the Primus Eta camping stoves (and other makes too) come with an insulated (and heat resistant) bag to put your pan in, so as to allow, for instance, the rice to continue cooking in the pan without any heat. If your budget is tight you could make a simple pan cosy. When I worked in Austria, we used to cover pan and pan lid with a blanket when for example, making yoghurt. Obviously it won't pass Environmental Health standards, but with care and common sense it can be useful.

Excellent tips there Jane, I used to work in a Chinese Takeaway as a driver and they used to wash their rice too. Definitely makes a difference. Look forward to having rice again one day lol.

    A few questions
1 if you don't wash the rice because you have a limited water supply will this still work?
2 if its cold out side say between 0 degrees and 32 degrees farenhight will this still work?
    3. Will this work with any kind of rice say normal Jasmin rice that you can buy in bulk?

      Hey Joshua!
1 you'll still be able to eat it, but it will likely be stodgy and not loose grains.
2 No clue, sorry. We're in south England so our temps rarely drop below 0C - do let us know how it goes though!
3 Yes, I would think so but haven't tried with Jasmine rice before. Again, let us know how it goes! :)

I will give it a try and let you know. I live in Idaho U.S.A currently temps rarely go above freezing. I am a big time prepper and with craze Joe possibly getting into the presidency. I feel an urgency to find ways to cook with the least amount of fuel in case he causes the second great depression with his covid policys.

Thank you so much!! I've always used a pressure cooker, but this is so much simpler - also means I only need one burner!
