It’s the first official weekend of summer and the heat has finally arrived! In this trip we start headed West on Santa Monica Blvd where we pass by Dan Tana’s (which has some of the best stick to your ribs Italian food in town) and the Troubadour (which hosts some of the best musical acts in town). We swiftly turn off Santa Monica Blvd and onto the Western most point of Melrose Avenue headed east (00:50).
Melrose Avenue is home to an assortment of dining and shopping options as well as The Pacific Design Center (02:25) which was used for the exterior shot of Lenina Huxley's apartment building in ‘Demolition Man’. (Not unlike ‘Demolition Man’ most of the people seen scurrying from shop to shop along Melrose Ave also use the 3 seashells.)
At (12:32) we depart Melrose by heading North on La Brea Ave where we pass Pink’s (blink and you’ll miss it) as well as The Jim Henson Company Lot (16:46) which has recently sold and unfortunately is to be torn down and redeveloped. At (16:55) we turn East onto Sunset Blvd and wrap up this trip at the famous big neon hat Arby’s (22:08) which has just closed after 55 years at this location. While Arby’s has become another victim of redevelopment the sign is in the process of becoming a landmark and may stay even beyond the construction.
