Episode 82
Doheny Drive is a north-south thoroughfare that runs mostly through Beverly Hills and West Hollywood. It is named after Edward L. Doheny, an early 20th century oil tycoon based in Los Angeles.
In the 1920s, Edward Doheny was implicated in the Teapot Dome scandal and accused of offering a $100,000 bribe to United States Secretary of the Interior Albert Fall. Doheny was twice acquitted of offering the bribe, but Fall was convicted of accepting it. Doheny and his second wife and widow, Carrie Estelle, were noted philanthropists in Los Angeles, and the character J. Arnold Ross in Upton Sinclair's 1926-27 novel ‘Oil!’ (the inspiration for the 2007 film ‘There Will Be Blood’) is loosely based on Doheny.
This drive starts on Sunset Blvd headed West where we turn up the hill to North Doheny Drive (04:26). North Doheny Drive provides spectacular views of the city and access to the renowned Bird Streets. The Bird Streets (09:30) are called “The Bird Streets” because the streets are named after birds (Oriole, Tanager, Thrasher, Skylark, Nightingale, Robin, Swallow, Kinglet, Thrush, Warbler, Flicker, Bluebird, Bobolink, Mockingbird, and Vireo Drive). From North Doheny Drive, through the Bird Streets we eventually head east and then up Rising Glen Road (28:45) and then back down Rising Glen Road to Sunset Plaza Drive where we close the loop onto Sunset Blvd.

If you mention Cielo Drive to people , unless they're into true crime, they have no idea what or where it is....even people in their 50's and 60's.
Not trying to be mean, but too long for a drive to a ‘site’…made it kinda boring or disappointing. Music was not fitting or very interesting. Sorry but I totally just lost interest & I love this history. Tell the story at least while ‘driving’…or something!

Very cool video on Glendower Avenue which is only minutes away from where I live. @signjoey mentioned that there was a house where a murder had once taken place which I was not aware of and would like to know more about that. Anyways, thanks for producing this interesting video of how the better half lives high up in the hills of Los Feliz.
Yes, you are correct about the murder mansion, if you check out the videos description I mention a little bit about the house and have included a time stamp so you can skip directly to the part of the video that features the house. The House on Haunted Hill
Good catch! A few other (of the many) films and TV shows that featured the Ennis House facade include... The Rocketeer, Rush Hour, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Predator 2, Beverly Hills Cop II and Blade Runner.
When I was in high school, (early 60's) we used to drive up there to the Frank Lloyd Writght house and try to see inside, but he only windows on the street were fake and only showed a little lighted alcove. I heard later that the UCLA studebts if archicecture were in charge of keeping it up. I don't know if it's still there or if anyone lives in it. It was pretty scary to a 16 yo kid. But now I think it was beautiful.

Not that long ago I visited the Murder House and I heard that the person who owns an enterprise that owns the house is facing foreclosure and could soon go up for auction. Who knows what will happen but I don’t think anyone would buy it due to it’s horrendous condition and history.
With the amount of development in LA it’s probably a good bet whoever gets ahold of it tears it down and rebuilds from scratch.
I put your videos on when I’m working, for some reason they are calming. Can you tour Holmby hills next please?

Absolutely, Nightmare on Elm Street might have used the cemetery backdrop more than any other movie with a few key scenes filmed there… The kinda shabby upkeep of the grounds adds to the overall spooky feel.
