I know because as much as I loved some of the old members of the New Directions coming back it kinds annoyed me because they kinda got way more attention than when it was her others senior year. I feel bad for Jenna because she has a beautiful voice and got under-utilised, and she seems like such a lovely person. She’s gotta be one of the comedic geniuses of Glee though.

Kurt never actually didn’t anything that is equally as bad as to what Tina did, all he did was be weirdly nice to him and try to bring up his confidence and weirdly stare at him a lot, whereas Tina actually harassed him numerous times. What they both did was bad but one was clearly worse and in this case, Tinas actions were worse.

I always wished that all of the season 1 originals sung at least one line each in that song, not just the original 5. Obviously Finn couldn't, but Quinn, Santana, Brittany, Mike Chang, and even Matt(?). It would have been great. . . .but Roderick sounds so good on the chorus, there's no denying it.

for real, and rachel at the beginning of the show said “i would never play kim in miss saigon” when tina got the fold for west side story as maria then rachel got what she wanted and sang the part. they should’ve gave tina a chance to do a number from miss saigon it would’ve been iconic even if it was a duet with another member. they should’ve appreciated the asian culture way more throughout the whole show.

Tina deserved so much better :/ Her character was so abused like she got racist remarks, bullied by her ’friends’ and she never got anything she wanted. No solos or trophy’s or own songs. She never really appreciated and even when she won prom queen she got covered in slushy. Her life was shitty basically all thanks to glee club

The show was a satire that was purposely full of stereotypes Most of the Asian jokes were fine but some of them went to far and crossed the line from being stereotypical and fitting for a satire to downright racist and offensive. R*an Murphy was awful to most of the characters and actors.
jenna said something in her book along the lines of "i chose glee, glee didn't choose glee". very correct. tina was my favourite character in seasons 1&2
Let's not forget she was also physically pushed around by the football team. The school never brought up anti-bullying and she didn't get a private school story-line, but hey it's not like she was talented as Rachel - oh, wait, Jenna's worked as Lea's understudy on multiple occasions so she's literally as talented as Rachel.

I will say as a Korean American like Jenna, it was so exciting to see a face like mine on a big American tv show since that’s so rare as we are one of the most underrepresented race in western media, but let me tell you how even more discouraging it was seeing her SCRIPTED classmates and fellow minorities treat her the way I was always treated over the seasons and the hurt that I personally felt from similar occurrences and how my feelings were constantly invalidated and then seeing glee doing the same thing by using it as comedy... it’s so incredibly messed up. Idk why people don’t address this enough. A big FUCK YOU to Ryan Murphy for this and anyone else involved. Jenna deserved better. The Asian community in western media continues to deserve better. I hope big producers see this and learn from glee’s incredibly disgusting actions.
THIS. I’m Chinese American, but i grew up during this era and I could’ve used someone like Tina to look up to. They failed the character, they failed Jenna, and they failed us. I’m still so mad about how she was treated on the show. Honestly racial minorities weren’t treated very well in general by the show, but Mercedes and Santana got treated much better than Tina. Tina is the only original character that didn’t have any parents show up on the show. Ever. They mention one time that she is adopted, which could’ve made for a hella lot of storylines, especially when Quinn gave her daughter up for adoption. They mention how she hated her brown eyes and were fucking racist to her about them, and then she magically changed and loved them for the Born this Way episode. No explanation. No changes from the other characters as to the way they treated her. Even though all of the other characters had explanations. They could’ve had the main storyline about how she didn’t like being Asian, but she learned to love her heritage. But noooo they decided to write about Rachel’s stupid nose job instead.
Tina was great Asian representation to me. Because her line about why the couple's therapy having to be Asian, is in a way, quite progressive. Like Mike, he upheld his parents expectations of him way more, and Asian parenting can be strict to the point where it does can get a little toxic. Pretty much everyone in my family is into art, but I also have biracial cousins. I was brought up with the arts, but their dad was more like Mike's dad and pretty much every time my cousins came over, we'd do something artistic with them and at least one of them would express their disapointment of not being allowed to do things like that at home. Whenever I watch Mike and his arc about dancing, I'm reminded of my cousins and seeing Tina being annoyed with Mike as well as trying to encourage him to defy his parents, was a total role model move.
i will never understand the sadie hawkins thing. like blane could've just been like "yeah, let's go as friends". going to dances together doesn't always have to be romantic, and they really missed out on an opportunity to play with that friendship dynamic ://
I loved tina in the first three seasons, she was always there for everyone and in the episode "props" I just can feel her angry and I agreed with her. Besides, her relationship with Mike was (for me) the most healty and beautiful in the club. The following seasons they just tried to make her annoyng and an easy joke, why they had to ruing her:c And she deserved been rizzo. . . . . . (sorry my english I'm not a native speaker:c)

Kurt never actually didn’t anything that is equally as bad as to what Tina did, all he did was be weirdly nice to him and try to bring up his confidence and weirdly stare at him a lot, whereas Tina actually harassed him numerous times. What they both did was bad but one was clearly worse and in this case, Tinas actions were worse.

I always wished that all of the season 1 originals sung at least one line each in that song, not just the original 5. Obviously Finn couldn't, but Quinn, Santana, Brittany, Mike Chang, and even Matt(?). It would have been great.

for real, and rachel at the beginning of the show said “i would never play kim in miss saigon” when tina got the fold for west side story as maria then rachel got what she wanted and sang the part. they should’ve gave tina a chance to do a number from miss saigon it would’ve been iconic even if it was a duet with another member. they should’ve appreciated the asian culture way more throughout the whole show.

Her character was so abused like she got racist remarks, bullied by her ’friends’ and she never got anything she wanted. No solos or trophy’s or own songs. She never really appreciated and even when she won prom queen she got covered in slushy. Her life was shitty basically all thanks to glee club

The show was a satire that was purposely full of stereotypes Most of the Asian jokes were fine but some of them went to far and crossed the line from being stereotypical and fitting for a satire to downright racist and offensive. R*an Murphy was awful to most of the characters and actors.

I will say as a Korean American like Jenna, it was so exciting to see a face like mine on a big American tv show since that’s so rare as we are one of the most underrepresented race in western media, but let me tell you how even more discouraging it was seeing her SCRIPTED classmates and fellow minorities treat her the way I was always treated over the seasons and the hurt that I personally felt from similar occurrences and how my feelings were constantly invalidated and then seeing glee doing the same thing by using it as comedy... it’s so incredibly messed up. Idk why people don’t address this enough. A big FUCK YOU to Ryan Murphy for this and anyone else involved. Jenna deserved better. The Asian community in western media continues to deserve better. I hope big producers see this and learn from glee’s incredibly disgusting actions.
THIS. I’m Chinese American, but i grew up during this era and I could’ve used someone like Tina to look up to. They failed the character, they failed Jenna, and they failed us. I’m still so mad about how she was treated on the show. Honestly racial minorities weren’t treated very well in general by the show, but Mercedes and Santana got treated much better than Tina.
Tina is the only original character that didn’t have any parents show up on the show. Ever. They mention one time that she is adopted, which could’ve made for a hella lot of storylines, especially when Quinn gave her daughter up for adoption. They mention how she hated her brown eyes and were fucking racist to her about them, and then she magically changed and loved them for the Born this Way episode. No explanation. No changes from the other characters as to the way they treated her. Even though all of the other characters had explanations. They could’ve had the main storyline about how she didn’t like being Asian, but she learned to love her heritage. But noooo they decided to write about Rachel’s stupid nose job instead.
Tina was great Asian representation to me. Because her line about why the couple's therapy having to be Asian, is in a way, quite progressive. Like Mike, he upheld his parents expectations of him way more, and Asian parenting can be strict to the point where it does can get a little toxic. Pretty much everyone in my family is into art, but I also have biracial cousins. I was brought up with the arts, but their dad was more like Mike's dad and pretty much every time my cousins came over, we'd do something artistic with them and at least one of them would express their disapointment of not being allowed to do things like that at home. Whenever I watch Mike and his arc about dancing, I'm reminded of my cousins and seeing Tina being annoyed with Mike as well as trying to encourage him to defy his parents, was a total role model move.

I loved tina in the first three seasons, she was always there for everyone and in the episode "props" I just can feel her angry and I agreed with her. Besides, her relationship with Mike was (for me) the most healty and beautiful in the club.
