  • “Go behind-the-scenes with a real-life ballerina to see how she brought to life the princesses’ ballet choreography!” - Mattel 2006
In this documentary we are introduced to principal dancer with the NYC Ballet, Maria Kowroski, who up until 2006 had been the dancer for Barbie®. We get to see her everyday life, working as a professional dancer to how she trains for her performances. We are also shown to how the film was made using motion-capture sensors. This is one of my favorite documentaries of Maria. She’s my personal hero! 💖

I never knew that they had gotten a real life ballerina and choreography for the ballet in the barbie movies! And hearing the magnificent music made me so nostalgic! This video was truly so amazing and insightful to watch, thank you so much for posting it!! I also wanted to ask if there are any other videos like this made for the other two barbie ballet movies? And if so if you could also post them I would so love to watch them! Thanks again!

Considering that a lot of late-90s, early-2000s animation was a bit trash (unless you were Pixar), I'm always surprised at how well made these direct-to-DVD Barbie movies are. The animation, design, and general artistry that went into them is still obvious 20 years later and I love that-- nothing was half-assed, and they still hold up today because of it. Even as an adult, I still like watching them. I really wish they would remake or adapt some of these for a large theatrical release or a stage musical. And I honestly have to say those three ( Barbie Swan Lake, Barbie Nutcracker, and Barbie twelve dancing princesses) are my favorite among the barbie movies! They should do Giselle, I know they did part of it in Pink Slippers but I kinda want to see it all. Or another ballet movie

I think Giselle would be too sad for the younger audience

It'd probably be hard to make the story wholesome, but I'd still absolutely love to see it

Giselle is one of my all time favorite ballets, the music is absolutely gorgeous, and I love the choreography. The story is pretty dark, though. I doubt they’ll do it, but if they did it would be fantastic

I'm currently on the verge of my last week in second term as a third year design student, I'm feeling incredibly burnt out and stressed, and I've reached a point where I'm doubting if this is really what I want to do, but this video has inspired me to give it that final push, that last shove of fullhearted motivation. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for this video.
