Most people gravitate towards the Montreal performance but I actually prefer the Milton Keynes. Freddie feeds off the audience and, thanks to not being restricted like they were in Montreal, the Milton Keynes audience is much more active and involved, making Freddie more passionate, in my opinion. I think you should watch Montreal first then Milton Keynes to appreciate how talented Freddie is and how he can change up a song.

Freddie really doesn't play guitar by his own admission but he did write Crazy Little Thing Called Love on guitar and does play guitar live when that song was performed. Prince could play any instrument he picked up, and he started doing so as a very young child, but he played something like 7 or 8 with proficiency. He was an amazing musician and having seen him live, was amazing. Freddie basically played piano and was a singer with Queen and in his solo career. This song is so much more amazing live and the Montreal live 1981 is a performance that seeing should be on everybody's bucket list. It is outstanding! Thank you for your reactions. Rock for the most part was an American thing spun off of Jazz. Most of the early rock n roll came out of the US but the British did come into their own in the 60's and 70's with The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Elton John, Tod Stewart, etc. Once the English bands took hold, they came into the market in a huge way. It was known as "The English Invasion." This was the official studio version of this song.

in the comments everyone talks about watching Montreal 1981, correct it is an extreme and perfect performance. but remember that there is also a 1982 performance from the Live At The Bowl Milton Keynes concert, which deserves attention. It doesn't have the same audio and video quality as Rock Montreal, but it's a testament to how Freddie Mercury goes from one extreme to the other with his voice.

Another great performance by Freddie is Who Wants to Live Forever, live at Wembley 1986.

Queen is known for their recognizable harmonies in studio. STL is a great example but you’re missing out if you don’t listen to them live, as well. Although, there are many hidden album treasures that were never, or rarely, performed live that are playlist worthy!
Since you mentioned it, the “four heads” intro to BoRhap was all Freddie singing each harmony which is multitracked. The operatic section is the three recording and overlaying the harmonies 180 times to create the choral effect. “Inside The Rhapsody” is an interesting “making of” not too long documentary on Queen Official.
Freddie was always quick to say that he was not the “leader” but an equal member of Queen.
    Cheers!

Thank you for your reaction. For this song, in my opinion, you've watched it in the Correct way. This studio version needs to be appreciated for it's harmonies & intricacies. The way all four of the members work off of each other shows better here. But now, for a powerhouse performance (and a different experience) do watch the same song performed "Live At Rock Montreal, 1981"! What you lose in sweet harmony, you gain in strength. Plus seeing this band live in front of an audience will help you appreciate why Queen were tops.

    Wellll….
Freddie Mercury has ALREADY been voted Best Vocalist and Best Frontman in Rock Music.🖖
His four octave singing voice was so unique, it was ACTUALLY STUDIED BY SCIENTISTS. (No joke.)🖖
His famous performance with Queen at Live Aid in 1985, is still known as the BEST performance in Rock Music history.🖖
Freddie was also the FIRST professional musician to cross music genres, and record a collaborative album with someone from another music genre (for his album of OPERA - Barcelona - with Spanish operatic soprano Montserrat Caballé).🖖
Freddie was also a respected songwriter:
He co-wrote his operatic Barcelona album, and his (probably most well-known) song “Bohemian Rhapsody”, was the MOST STREAMED song of the 20th Century.🖖
    And… as a musician:
Fred’s musical peers ALL said they had never seen anyone else play piano in the manner Fred did, aside from the famous pianist, Liberace.🖖

Freddie Mercury knew how to play something on the guitar, but he wasn't a great guitarist. Despite this, he composed Crazy Little Thing Called Love on a guitar. The other members of Queen are also multi-instrumentalists. On his first solo album, drummer Roger Taylor played all the instruments, sharing credit for only 50% of the synthesizers.

The last great Queen song? Not even close! Following this was We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions, Spread Your Wings, Don't Stop Me Now, Fat Bottomed Girls, Bicycle Race, Crazy Little Thing Called Love....and they were all in the 1970s!
Then you have the decade of the 1980s and five more albums - and into the early 1990s. One 90s song alone, Innuendo, is up there as one of Queen's greatest.
No way you can compare Prince to Freddie. Freddie was NOT 'the RnB equivalent of Prince'. For one thing, Queen were never RnB. They were multiple genres, but if you had to pin one on them, they were a rock band and Freddie was a rock singer.
Not saying Prince wasn't highly talented. As you point out, his musicality was incredible. And his prolific songwriting. But he wasn't a great voice/singer, like Freddie was. And Prince didn't have Freddie's stage presence (to be fair, few did)
Prince also based too much of his image on two of my musical icons, Jimi Hendrix and Little Richard. Whereas Freddie was a total original.
Bohemian Rhapsody regularly gets voted into the top 10 all time pop/rock songs by various music magazine, radio station, and music TV channel fan polls. Often it's in the top 5, and often it is no.1. In the mix with Led Zeppelin's Stairway To Heaven, Eagles' Hotel California, Meatloaf's Bat Out Of Hell, The Doors' Riders On The Storm, Lynyrd Skynyrd's Freebird, The Who's Won't Get Fooled Again, and more than one by The Beatles. Regardless of personal taste, there's no question that it is in the top 10 or even top 5 greatest of all time.
