  • Join me for my commute from downtown NYC to the Upper West Side (where I work), plus a little Central Park. It's a regular workday / day in my life kind of Friday in New York City. In between I share with you the unique ways I’m inspired daily by the grit of the city and the nature of Central Park. This is my version of life in NYC!
I'm Christina DiStefano--I'm an interior designer in training. I'm an artist, a real estate broker, and I work for a real estate developer in NYC.
I throw in a quick apartment tour showing off our view of the LES waterfront and new living room layout--just for funsies.
Sending you a big 😘 from NYC!

    ABOUT ME:
Hey I'm Christina DiStefano! I am sort of a jack-of-all-trades: artist, sales director for a top NYC real estate development company, certified life coach, yoga instructor, Reiki practitioner, artist (I'm a painter), business woman--and now I'm taking on Interior Design via a certification (I'm starting an Interior Design firm in 2024 lovingly called Casa Serenità Interiors. Oh and did I mention I'm leading the renovation of our country home (inside and out)?!
I believe that home is a sacred place that we nurture and in return it nurtures us. That being said, my design process is focused on creating a sanctuary, a place of serenity that truly feels like home.

I love New York! Even tho I’m a California girl. The architecture is striking, and I noticed the sidewalks being an inspiration in your paintings. You have a great apartment with a stunning view. This tour was so fun.

Love your apartment, art and New York! Such an amazing city and architecture.
I always wondered how incredible it would be to have my own flat or small apartment in New York to feed my creativity.
I love the countryside as well. But I crave a balance, so would have to live close enough to the architecture, Central Park and so many treasures there no doubt. London area in UK is my other favorite city.
I have only seen New York on film, but I plan to visit one day! I'm an empty nester if you will and my children now grown and one is married with children.
The way I see it, the world is my oyster and never too late to learn and expand ones professional and personal passions.
Thank you for sharing your home, city and your love of all things beautiful.
Sounds very exciting what you do with more than one area of work. Never dull for sure. I'm a self-taught photographic artist and no where near being ready to market what I do. But you really inspired me and just what I needed to do some little DIY projects at home in my rental apartment.
I plan to pursue Interior Design studies at MRU in Canada and presently registered for open studies unofficially, until they give go ahead to pay my 'tuition.. Such a process just to get in but you can't put a price on a solid education.
Keeping options open to expand into Journalism after that, via part-time study.
I'm passionate about photographic art and photography in black and white really portrays emotion in a piece. Playing with manipulating photographs to also create a different medium for artistic expression.
So much to explore and learn in arts part time in summers. But starting small and slow. I really want to experiment with different mediums like stained glass and take some sketching classes, while learning about color and so forth.
Visual Arts comes to mind. We have an art university here in Calgary, Alberta, but focusing on MRU, Open Studies for now. First couple years usually general studies anyway. Sorry I'm going on a bit here. Ha ha..
My design style is eclectic, modern with a mix of vintage and mixing of some rustic pieces
Some of my favorite stores are Pottery Barn, West Elm and always shopping for one of kind mirrors or pieces.
For now I've put my self on a budget and will be purchasing a comparatively gorgeous sofa, with deep tufting, shorter standard legs from Structube with a peuter gray color and I alreafy own two beautiful, deep slate blue mid-century modern chairs. I tend to love the exotic as well. Especially pieces made in India. Rugs and accessories especially. I had my eye on a sleeper sofa at West Elm, but when I own, will splurge then. There was peuter gray color and a deep, textured velvet fabric choice called 'tarrogan. I totally will go for a deep moody green sofa one day. Couldn't find a green sofa in styles Ì wanted. I absolutely love color but landlord doesn't allow any painting. Older building and not here forever so I have to compromise for now.
I came across an amazing photograph by Steve McCurry, THE ICONIC PHOTOGRAPHS, in one of his books, purchased via INDIGO/CHAPTERS store.. This particular pjotographic is on his cover of huge photographic book. I plan to collect more books that catch my eye, and I've started collecting more design magazines for creative inspiration as well.
Photograph shows deep green waters with an Indian gentleman going to market Ì presume, with his rustic boat, filled with beautiful flowers. Ì purchased many years ago. I love flowers and the exotic and rich background in this photograph.
Did I mention Ì love jewel tones?! I love to create a moody space.
Not sure about shelves but I love the concept of layering pieces to give a greater impact and more storage as well. Also, it would allow me to paint inside back of shelves if I were to venture that direction. Which would add a pop of color.
I don't like a lot of clutter so for me, I'm somewhat of a minimalist. I try to find pieces that I love of course. I'm not interested in impressing others. But I do want my home to reflect me and some of my favorite colors are slate blue, olive and forest green, purple and fuchsia. Orange and cognac also becoming favorite colors of mine.
I tend to mix grays in with my deeper colors. Once Im finished with purchase of my new sofa and rug for lvrm/dining, open concept space, I will definately send you some photos.
Give me a year or so as Ì limited my big projects this year to sofa, rugs, cabinet for open concept dining area and the odd art pieces and accessories. Stay tuned!
I will message anitger time with items Ì have chosen just to share my selection of pieces thus far. Will create a vision board on my phone then to attach to an email.
My dream would be to work part time as a Interior Design Consultant and who knows, branch out into writing as a side gig. No doubt with Interior Design as my focus.
I love most of your videos thus far. Just subscribed and enjoying your design ideas and style.
I'm looking forward to seeing more of New York and your country home will be incredible labor of love.
Thank you for sharing and giving so much of your time and expertise! Sending much Love! ❤

OMG!!! Love your apartment! And that view is fantastic. To be able to see the Brooklyn Bridge every day! Wow. Its my favorite bridge. My girlfriends great grandfather built it so it's special. And it is so beautiful. My dream would be to live in NYC for one year just to experience it!

Thank you so much!! Everyone should experience living in NYC. It’s an incredibly vibrant place. I pull so much creativity from here. It’s nice to experience it from another’s perspective. We all get so caught up in the day to day I think we forget about its magic.

Thank you Christina! Oh my gosh the process it’s a bit time consuming. I do have some shorts on my page but it’s very intuitive and has many, many layers. All on the floor with rolled out canvas. I’ll have a solid think about it 😘 perhaps this spring/summer!

@@Christina-zx9ij Haha it certainly is that! There’s more process I suppose on Instagram than here. I’m inspired by your comment though and may show you all the process. It’s different every time. O don’t want to bore everyone! Haha I go by what feels right so I never know. Thank you so much for the sweet words about my art.
