You need a good team to win, so it's not just 1 single player, as if he 2nd had been teamed a certain way he could be first
Ultimately I say skill comp or 1 on 1 is the way to justify who is the best, cause being smart and using that with skill can make you the best
Plus different eras equal different stats
Goalie pads and play , helmets , gear , sticks
Alot of variables to say who's ultimately the mvp, hence it comes down to stats and opinions which are relative
I think anyone who played 3 decades and still managed fairly is the goat, howe and jager as long as messier who managed to do pretty well in his 25th season

I know most people probably have no idea about this fact, but while everyone was talking about Marleau breaking Howes NHL games played record, Jagr broke Howes other record, most professional hockey games played (including playoffs). Guinness hasn’t even recognized it yet but it’s legit, the numbers add up on eliteprospects

It's true. In the beginning, he seemed brash, at minimum compared to super Mario...but man he was Brett Hull scary when shooting on goal. Mad respect he's still grinding...
There are legends. Then there is Jaromir Jagr.
He lead that 2013-14 Devils team in points by a pretty wide margin, which seems crazy to do at the age of 41 (on top of playing all 82 games). Jagr is a legend on and off the ice.
I mean in fairness we were pretty lousy that season haha. Not to take anything away from the dude though.

In '16, I traveled to Kladno (a reasonable taxi ride from Prague airport), stayed at an old beautiful art deco hotel, wandered its classic streets with monuments to its coal and steel industries along with war memorials, and then took in a Rytiri Kladno game with the owner sitting in the owner's box taking a break from staying in shape to go back to the Panthers. The town is not so big and the arena is small, aged, and nestled in a grove of pines. Great beer and hotdogs, a warm atmosphere, and some interesting merch. including a scowling mulleted Jagr head on a keychain (one of my Jagr treasures). My Czech buddy and I had a blast. As a Pens fan from well before Mario, JJ is my alltime favorite Pen. My final time to see him was with the Panthers in Colorado as he tied Howe's points total for second in history. I hope the Knights survive and I'm looking forward to his Pens 68 retirement ceremony. One of the GOAT.
No man has been more suited to being a hockey player than Jagr. He was put on Earth to do one thing.
His training regiment would kill most marines.
He also grew up in a sweet spot where as a youngster, he played in the old Czech youth development program (which worked because it didnt coddle the players. Nowadays, he could never be produced as the programs have gone soft)
You can run into him wandering around Kladno. He is just as nice and down to Earth as he appears.
I think this video will need an update in 5 or 10 years.

@@smithryansmith Yeah, these modern development programs are just horrible. Modern players are slower than ever, can barely handle the puck and are physically simply underdeveloped. Where are the good old days, when professional athletes still smoked between periods?

@@beckobert But seriously, I was refering specifically to the Czech development programme, not rogrammes in general. Theres a reason the Czech team was the best in the world in the 90s and is pretty poor these days.

Panthers fan here. Loved him in the time he played for us. That 15-16 season was amazing to watch considering his age. Playing on the same line as younger versions of Huberdeau and Barkov helped him out, but obviously he was a huge mentor to them and the rest of the boys in the locker room. There's no doubt in my mind that Jagr playing with Huby and Barkov helped them develop a ton and turn into the elite players they are today.

I remember when he was drafted. He acted like he may not come over, which scared the first 4 teams enough to pass on him, but the Pens knew he would come. Mario was his hero.

As a Capitals fan, Jagr was not a good fit with the more defensive Caps of that time. Mr. Leonsis learned his lesson. In 2003-4, he sent a letter to Capitals season ticket holders about having to tear it all down and rebuild. 2004 is when The Caps won The Draft Lottery and selected Ovechkin.
When Ovie passes Jagr is gonna be a big moment for me... Jags was the grizzled old vet when Ovi was a rook.

I'm 32 now and I met Jágr in person when I was 9 years old. It was at a local tennis club in a small Czech town, our tennis coach was apparently Jágr's friend, I missed previous training but my friend alerted me that Jágr would be at the next one. I'm like "Sure, whatever mate, I'll come to training." I didn't really believe him.
Everyone gathered around the gate to watch Jágr's arrival. He arrived with couple other people, like his personal/mental coach. When he went through the gate, everyone was in awe, silent, and I said "Hello." The kind of good boy "Hello", or rather "Good day" your mum would applaud you for. Jágr leans over me, looks me in the eyes 2 centimetres from my face and says with big wide grin: "Well, hello there." 50 people around start laughing as the tension breaks.😀 Then he played some tennis for 1-2 hours or so, despite little rain, and signed all hockey cards and books.
Playing with Mario and/or Francis at the beginning of his career certainly helped, but he was one of if not the top guy in the league for a number of years after those guys left Pittsburgh and after he himself moved on. That Penguins team in the early 90s was stacked and probably should have won more than 2 Cups with the team they had. I remember having his Pro Set card from around 1989 or 1990 at one time (all my cards got lost in moves...grr) and I remember it saying that he "likes fast cars." I guess early in his career he had that kind of reputation, as most young hockey players do. Not everyone is Bo Horvat in terms of maturity. But you can't argue with the success he's had and the contributions he's made to his team's overall success. One of the best of all time. I would have liked to have seen him up against Pavel Bure consistently had Bure not gotten injured. Different types of players, but both highly skilled. Bure was more of a lightning fast sniper with great hands who could just fly by you and bury it before you or the goalie knew what was happening, while Jagr more the overall offensive threat. Jagr was bigger, too. Edit: LMFAO - you said it! Fast cars.

Idk if Jake Voracek would be the player he is today if it wasn't for Jagr's mentorship. Both from Kladno and both come onto the Flyers in 11-12. I can only imagine what it was like to play with and learn from your hometown hero.
Also had a positive impact in Barkovs career mentoring him(how to train etc), said Barkov himself
Also Giroux, Huberdeau are players that became exponentially better because they played with Jagr.
One of the strangest stats & this was before Mario came out of retirement in 2001.
Jagr had assisted on exactly 66 of Lemieux’s goals and Lemieux had assisted on exactly 68 of Jagr’s goals: their respective uniform numbers.

I got to see Jagr playing with calgary against detroit in his last NHL season and i was still blown away by his ability, he didnt dominate of course but this guy thats as old as the parents of the guys he is playing with was still controlling the puck and forcing at least two guys to cover him whenever they gave him the puck. Ohhhh that intro reminds of my old dog that was passed to my family since my grandpa couldn't really take care of him anymore. He named him Jagr. The fact that Jaromir's playing career outlived my old dog is pretty epic imo! He lived be 16 years old and had a good life 🙂. Hope he signs a 1 day contract with Pittsburgh to retire here and/or Pens retire #68

Also the cheapest season ticket (27 home games) for his team is just a little more than 130$. There are teams in the NHL, where you get a single game for that money. So I guess it's up to anyone to decide what's more important. Affordable ticket prices or super nice jerseys.

Having lived in the Pittsburgh area and being a Penguins' fan since the early 1970's, I can still remember when Jaromir was drafted by the Pens and the impact he made with the team, especially when he and Mario were on the power-play. It is just incredible that this man is still playing hockey and it will be cool someday to hear his Hockey Hall Of Fame speech (if he ever retires). :)

Such a great player, deserves all the praise. He was so good that between the 1980/81 - 2000/01 seasons, there were only three winners of the Art Ross. Gretzky, Lemieux and Jagr. That's pretty good company.
I have yet to meet someone who doesn’t like Jager. He played for so many teams and is so good that people have to respect him.

The time period when I was as big a hockey fanatic as I've ever been was in the 90's, and I really feel like I was spoiled. Watching guys like Gretzky, Lemieux, Jagr, Selanne, Yzerman, Fedorov, Bure, Hull and Coffey, all in their primes, was amazing. These are some of the best players, if not the best players in history, and after those guys left, it just hasn't been the same. I have long viewed Jagr as like the last link to my childhood. What an amazing player, and I consider it a privilege to have watched him grow and mature as his career went on.

As a panthers fan, that 2015-16 season was nothing short of spectacular to watch and he was one of the main guys to get me into the sport of hockey. I will always be a Jagr fan and he is on my personal Mount Rushmore of hockey.
At this point it's pretty much Howe, Gretzky, Jagr, and Ovechkin if you want to pick just 4 guys. Add Lemieux and Brodeur (and maybe Hull) if you don't limit the number.

@@dominicpancella3012 Crosby is and has been better thsn ovi. Sid plays all around a LOT better than ovi and Sid has rocket awards too. Ovi doesnt have as good skill to make everyone else better. Sids leadership is just amazing. Ovi is best goal scorer but does he beat Crosby in every other aspect? No imo. I might be a biased pens fan. You hear ppl talk about Crosby being top 5 all time but i dont hear ovi being talked as top 5 of all time.
Crosby has 2 conn smythes and he is the guy of big games.
Gotta give HUGE props for ovi tho. Amazing player snd has stayed ridiculously healthy. But i think sid has barely any weaknesses and ovi has bit more weak spots in his game.
When Jagr finally retires, he should replace Bettman. He's already worn half the Jerseys in the NHL. Who better to represent hockey?
I still have my autographed puck, he definitely is a leader and inspiration for ANY team he played on, rather they went deep into the playoffs or not. The guys the definition of the term beast.

Have always been a Jagr fan since day one, even though I hated Pittsburgh. When he became a Panther I could not have been happier. Without question, he turned both Barkov and Hubredeau into the players they are today. A fun loving good natured guy who is one of the greatest ever. Forever a Jagr fan.

Jagr is the same age as my mom. He is a legend for being able to play that long.
It's worth mentioning that he got injured while with Calgary. He was doing decent enough before given his age but after coming back really struggled
He uses a second white board. Awesome. It's like hockey-reference, where Jagr's numbers are broken up by a second header.
I really rooted for Jagr and the Czech Republic when they won the gold medal at the 1998 Olympic games. Him and Hasek both deserved it. Also, for the 2005-06 season, he lost out on winning the awards to two San Jose Sharks players that year. Jonathan Cheechoo beat him by two goals to win the Rocket Richard trophy and lost to Joe Thornton for the Art Ross and the Hart trophies as well.
My friends and I used to talk about Jagr when we were in middle school. This year is our 20 year reunion. He is still playing. 🤯

Jaromir Jagr was the team leader in +/- on that Flames team when his career ended and he had positive net corsi and fenwick. I think the problem was he was being misused and intuition says you shouldn't put someone that slow on your shutdown line even if the stats back it up. I truly believe he was still NHL caliber and could have finished the season a nice shutdown line guy with perhaps some time on the PP2

My 1st and All-Time Favorite non-Blackhawks player that I really started following. The Great One and SuperMario were already legends. Jagr started roughly when I found the NHL. Jagr = Legend. (Patrick in Chicago)

in the early 90's, there was a huge card show @ Pacific Coliseum. My Brother and I went. Jagr was @ the show, my Brother met him. Got 2 cards signed, I still have them both.
