Ahhhh Mrs. S! Whew. My exact thoughts. The dialogue not being indicated was the one thing that kept throwing me off but otherwise - just stellar. Quite a few moments where I had to just shut the book and bask in it.
Re: book recs - I hesitate here for fear of triggering anyone or shifting the mood, but in light of everything that’s been happening in Palestine and Israel, I’ve been revisiting a favorite of mine - “All the Rivers” by Dorit Rabinyan. Such a tenderly rendered story. Would recommend.
Totally! It wasnt so much the prose that was hard to snuggle under, moreso the like dialogue vs narrative distinction. And ive done other books that forfeit dialogue cues and im never bothered by it, but this one for some reason was more ... demanding of my attention haha. But totally didnt mind because it was a beautyyy. And oooooh, Ill have to look into this, thank you for the recommendation! Im reading Mornings in Jenin by Abulhawa and have some nonfiction on its way over to me. Its an urgent moment, and these stories should always be read, but its vital now especially. Thanks for sharing this one!
kat, that notification tone is insane 😭
appreciate that discussion on the driving force of literary characters according to their gendered and racial classes. my favorite kind of literary criticism takes into account the socio-political, economic, and historical context that influences the characters' as well as the authors' decisions, what choices are available to them, etc. also your thoughts on ripe made me think about margo jefferson on nella larsen's heroines, on white women writers of that tradition like sylvia plath, on the racial dimension of that gendered decision. lots to think about,,
Etima i am very very unserious 😂😂
This was a big-ass reminder to return to Jefferson, I'd be so curious to read that (is her work on nella larsen in negroland? Or did you come across it in the critical editions of one of Larsen's books?). Appreciate your thought constellations on all of this!
UGH! eu amo amo amo os seus vídeos!!! there are very few things that i love more than grocery haul + reading discussions 😭🧎🏾♀️
Grocery hauls and reading chats are truly the happy place! Obrigada amiga! (Also, this is gonna be such a weird question but whats your name! I recognize you by the thumbnail and in my head im always like my friend with the cool aura user pic 😂)
Naps in your thirties are the best! I love chai tea lattes as well. I’ve really been enjoying making them at home. Mmm Mrs. S sounds interesting. Such a cute fun vlog!
I recently tried making chai from scratch and it has been so fun! Also the way it makes your space smell?? Divineeeee. And there were a lot of things I was warned about with aging, the frequent naps wasnt one of them Im shooook 😂
loved your thoughts on Ripe and about women seeking freedom. katiejames and i discussed this a while back when we read The Seas together, how the self requires to be harmed (or even destroyed) in a way in order to seek out a higher form. in The Seas, i think the theme worked well with the idea of water, how destructive it could be or how it can also symbolize baptism
Oh thats lovely! I was thinking a lotttt about it from the lens of like art-making too -- if the self is too present, its hard to "hear" or tap into the nucleus of the thing. Dissolution and obliteration seem to be so vital in like ... ascension? Without getting too woowoo lol. Thesis is the self is constantly in the way, we need to get rid of that heaux!
The way I run to watch your videos lol if there's a fan club, clearly I'm in. This vid made me want to immediately seek out a cannoli. And I'm now intrigued by Trick Mirror, whereas before I'd kind of pass by it because of Lauren Oyler's review, but you've turned me around!
This is the best compliment everrrrr (esp cause I know that feeling so well haha!) grateful we can hang, even if its in this weird kinda lopsided way 😭 and ok wait, neeeeeed to see what Oyler said about this one!
This was such a cute cosy vlog! You've now convinced me to read Mrs.S!
It's worth the read!
beautifully written queer (!!) yearning and longing?? i'm sold
Honestly the no quotations in dialogue was a little hard, but I was so blown away by the writing! Also the depiction of longing in it was chefs kisssss!
ALL THE FOOD AT THE FESTIVAL MADE MY TUMMY SPEAK
aslo we stan joe luv me tj's like pumpkin tortilla chips??? sign me up!!
omfg ur notification pings 🤡
If I could have fit it all in my baggu, TRUSTTTTTT i would have
you mean the most sensible, classy acoustic ping???? what about it? 😂
The Awakening is a classic affair novel. And it’s much shorter than some of the ones that you mentioned! ❤️
That's one I meant to add as well, thank you for the reminder! I might do some rearranging and slip that one to the top. Im so excited!
Finished the vaster wilds this weekend and you should pick it up! Just deeply inside the head of a young servant girl who escapes from Jamestown colony. It’s so introspective and lauren groff’s writing >>>
WAIT. I had nooooo idea thats what vaster wilds was about??? And Ive heard SUCH good things about her writing, so your cosign is def making me want to reach for her soon! Have you read any others of hers? I think I own Matrix? (is that what its called?)
I've always loved this festival! It brings back delicious fun memories. I'm adding 1,000 Coils of Fear to my TBR . I'm so happy that I discovered you.Thank you 😊
Ugh, its the BESTTT! I have flashbulb memories of the best penne vodka ive ever had and have just been chasing that feeling since (also the cannolissss) And eeep, excited youre picking it up! Im about halfway through and its SUCH an interesting read so far. Very experimental in form too.
Eeep, Im happy you're here! ☺️♥️♥️♥️ Thank you for watching!
The subtitle of _Trick Mirror_ sounds incredibly enticing.
She really delved into a ton of brain-bendy explorations! Very very enticing!
what a relief i'm not the only one to absolutamente ADORAR affairs (being portrayed in literarure y no cinema, only. ofc lol). sometimes you just need some degree of morally grey narrative, para realmente mergulhar na história
LMAO! I always fear that people think im like a philanderer but yes, an advocate for affairs /strictly/ in art 😂 And totalllllly! I dont think Ive ever put words to it but thats preciselyyyyy precisely it! (Also me fascina la palabra mergulhar omg)
I love the intro!!! And zomg I leave for work at 6:20 also 😂😂
We have the same baggu! (Mine is XL, tho!)
😆 “here’s where we are at 31”

@@katsfieldnotes she would be such a fun night out i love her
1000 Coils of Fear has been on some prize lists when it came out in Germany. I liked it, but I didn't love it, so I'm very curious to hear your opinion about it.
Oh, interesting! I got about halfway and then life scrambled my brain but I have to get back to it. The form was really compelling, but I could see it being a like-not-love book. Ill report back!
Try Kolkata Chai!! Their chai is the best and they do a chai soft serve that is next level!
Okay Ive seen ads for this and have been curious. This was the cosign I needed! Let me look into placing an order!
