Yes, Don! A true country song. I have always had an affinity for Conway's ballads and this one didn't disappoint. I didn't know he had a daughter, much less one that sang as sweetly as she did. A new song and such a sweet/bittersweet, heartfelt one. Thanks to mamakittyluvsjesus for a great request and to Don for echoing my feelings while listening. It took me back a few (quite a few) decades to that first crush that I thought was love. Perfect rating!!
Conway Twitty sang this song with his daughter Joni and his daughter Joni did infact marry a guy named John, she married country singer John Wesley Ryles. John Wesley Ryles had a hit song called Kay.

Good choice of Conway's songs. Joni is Conway's oldest daughter, and he also had a son named Jimmy. His daughter Kathy sang with him as well, and his oldest son Mike has his on singing career. Conway conned Joni into singing the song with him, but she didn't want to, so he asked if she would just do a demo tape with him until they found someone else to do the song before he it released. It sounded so good with Joni, that he released it without her knowing. She was all good with it when she saw how well it did on the charts!

Thanks Don . Joni was 15 I believe when they song this . She went on to have at least one album believe . He has another song he with his other daughter Kathy "Don't cry Daddy " There is a mess of songs that artists sang with there kids back in the day.. Bobby Bare has a very cute one "singing in the kitchen ". Red Sovine has two "it will grow back " and "Daddys girl "

What a beautiful song, Conway is the perfect performer for it too. They captured the innocence of young love with such heart and emotion. I still remember my first "crushes" very fondly, and this song brings it all back to me, in technicolor. Always have loved this song. Me and my dad when he was alive( December 2nd was 6years since he passed away) use to sing this on karaoke. I still remember the first time my dad had me sing it with him I said I never heard this song before and he said just try it you don't know if you can or can't do it until you try. So I did and it became one of our song we'd always sing when I went over to my parents and my dad and I would karaoke. ( My parents had their own karaoke business).

JONI LEE released a follow up song titled THE REASON WHY I'M HERE. Her nephew TRE TWITTY ( CONWAY TWITTY'S Grandson) has partnered up with LORETTA LYNN'S Granddaughter TAYLA LYNN to form TWITTY & LYNN. They travel and do a tribute show to CONWAY and LORETTA. They started a few years back, and had the Blessings and support of Loretta. They don't copy their Grandparents like impersonators, they do it their own way. They were doing a show, and were about to do DON'T CRY JONI when they called JONI LEE up on stage. She said she would not do that song because she's retired, but fully supports TWITTY & LYNN. She was actually working for them selling merchandise at the show.
The female part of this song was sung by Conway's daughter.

A cute song. I always liked it. Puts me in mind of the Kendalls. I love their songs but it annoyed my mother that it was a father/daughter duo singing all those cheating songs.

I think this one they recorded together in a Studio.
Although, look at it this way. He's known her since she was FIVE and he was TWELVE so all he could see when they got older was that same little girl who had a crush so this song isn't at all about a man and a girl.
