Content hierarchy is a principle new to me. It's sensical that the flow of work experience, coalesced with are education/certs, on resumes, ought to have emphasis on what the hire manger seeks in a potential employee. Thank you Lou for being lucid and sharing your practical insights with us!
So I started watching this video... and never thought it would lead to being up til 1AM lazer focused on updating my resume and properly telling my story. Thanks man!
The vast, VAST majority of people I speak to have what I call a "positioning problem".
They're on the right track with skills, they've got the courses and the learning figured, but they don't know how to present themselves. They send off cookie cutter resumes and don't tailor them at all, they don't do any outreach to recruiters, hiring managers etc, they don't seek or ask for feedback in interviews, they don't share their resume in forums as they're scared someone else will "steal it" (or something), and they just never realise that getting a job means you're solving a problem for a business, and the main challenge is to show how you can solve that business problem for them. You need to get under the skin of what it means to solve that problem in a company context. When you understand that well, you can present yourself well, and your success goes up. You've gotta put yourself in the employers shoes and work backwards, that's the key !
