The new Kia Sportage is the fifth generation of the Korean brand’s family SUV, and it’s the best yet. Closely related to the also brilliant Hyundai Tucson, the new Sportage blends zingy styling with the latest interior tech and punchy-yet-frugal hybrid engines. The last model ticked a lot of boxes for family buyers, but the new one seems to cover even more bases, with improved tech and practicality. In fact, there are few cars of this size with so many useful features. It’s not the sportiest car on the road, which is a little ironic given its name, and low-spec cars do without the twin screens inside, so lack a bit of sheen. But is it the family SUV to pick? Nicola puts it to the test.

The tucson was designed perfectly in terms of looks (not too eye catching and weird nor boring and round) but the sportage is too much to your face, the front is a little jarring. And hyundai gives you a bigger boot. Interior on both are nice but i personally dont prefer the single long display on kia, i jus like a separate screen for the center console. Why don't people who review cars ever take road tax and insurance into consideration like for instance whichever car you buy within the UK if the car cost more than £40,000 brand new no matter if you buy nearly new then you might have to pay a £390 surcharge on top of your road tax for the next 5 years. If you went for the Hyundai Tucson Ultimate self charging and Mild charging awd kia sportage gt line s then both of them are insurance groups 20 where the self charging version of the kia sportage gt line s is insurance 25 but don't quote me on this.

@markyes Yes it is a 7 year warranty, but if you read the detail of the warranty, the number of items covered reduces over the 7 years. For example audio and satnav systems are only covered for 3 years, paintwork for 5 years. If you have a special edition model, the modified body parts are covered for two years. I like the fact that Kia offer the 7 year warranty and wish other manufacturers followed suit, but just be aware of the detail.

I’m ordering an HEV 4 version, UK spec. Don’t like plug ins, especially as not practical for me, living in mid terrace house, no drive and no guarantee of parking directly outside my house, and only work 4 hours daily.

In person i find this design is ugly and will not age well. The size is also too bulky for my liking. My opinion.

Don't like it at all. Ugly design and the interior is a copy from Mercedes

Such an ugly car... it'd fit in great with a futuristic city...but dreary England? No way. Give me a DS instead!

@@stratos8093 Yeah, a DS actually looks good and comes with decent features. That Kia stands out, sure... for all the wrong reasons because it's been styled by three different teams who had to communicate over smoke signals during lockdown lol. Even a Seat Terraco is better looking
