Nice review and I'm thinking about buying this model too. Damn nice riding!!!
love your videos man they're so well made
Thanks! I really appreciate it!!
The status rips. Sweet rig.
Great review man, I will be picking one of these up next Saturday. I am Patroller at a Ski Resort/Bike Park in Utah and will be using my Status to work the mountain, I am hoping that it will hold up to that much abuse.
how has it been?
I just put one on hold due to sales. Thanks for luck, cus it really helped.
Hey mate I was watching vids on this bike and thought your channel looked familiar. And then I realised a while ago I was looking at the N7 and watched all your vids when you got it. I just subbed.
Thanks!
Great review.
Thorough enough for me.
I'd consider the shorter travel version as my riding is a bit more tame than yours.
My concern in buying one of these is the fact that specialized has changed their Epic and Stumpjumper FSR carbon models to a single pivot design. And this makes me think it's just a matter of time (maybe 2 yrs) until all their models go that way.
I'm not really too keen on a Horst link design if I'm honest. Because of the pedaling and the aparent need for a tuned shock. But my knowledge on them isn't sufficient anyway. So probably would be fine.
Thanks for the review.
Sick bike bro… 🤘🤘👍👍
Just found a used one today I pick it up Saturday but it's 3 hours away. So stoked though. Thanks for the great video!
Thanks! You’ll enjoy it!
Good balanced review
Nice review! I have same bike.
Let’s tell the truth, that things a god send after lugging that n7 up hill…✌🏻
Eh, not necessarily. N7 had very little bob when going uphill, it just weighed a bit more then the Status. The N7 had its fair share of problems but none of it had to do with how it rode/Geometry. Definitely been enjoying the status more though!
i have a status S5 ive been trying to sell... and ive had to lower it below 2k with only 40 ish miles on it.. i guess XL is hard to move
Hi you thing change rear wheel is necessary in long term ?
Is there a full lockout for climbing?
Am I able to put a mrp ramp control cartridge in the fork? Great review
He said in the video that the shock has a lockout if that answer's your question
We have 2 of these and found a GX derailleur fixes chain slap . otherwise a perfect bike . NX clutch is to soft
we have 1 of the 140 as well same upgrade .
Any thoughts on the 140 vs 160? I have ordered both, but not really sure which one to choose. I'm new to mtb and do anything from Paved trails to dirt trails and hope to go to a bike park soon. Do you think 160 would be an overkill for hybrid use?
@@camaleon193 i think you would be happy with either or . the 140 is perfect travel for paved or manicured tracks . If you see yourself catching good air time or hitting gnarly downhill stuff go the 160 .
@@brentmorreel Sweet, thanks!!
where's the area you are riding that looks absolutely sickkk
How tall are you? Your went with the lg s4 right?
How were the tires? 2.3 width sounds very small... how do they hold up?
Hey, thats big creek park Roswell isnt it?
what fenders are u using for this bike?
Do you think 27.5 fork and wheels with longer travel like 180 mm fork with 27.5 wheels will be ok with this frame
That’s what I’m in the process of doing right now actually. I have it temporarily setup at 170 with 27.5 wheel and it feels good. That just riding around my backyard though. Definitely going 180 with riser bars (stem at lowest point) and going to try the low chip option for better front end grip on the smaller tire
does the frame ride similar to the n7? im betting you would be noticing a HUGE improvment with the fox 36 fork over the yari though.
Status frame is much for linear then the N7. N7 was not the best with small bump but was more playful. The 36 is super plush and stiff. I never had a problem with the Yari, unless I was riding chattery downhill trails. It would feel harsh and make my hands go numb (I would run 27% sag with 2 volume reducer). I would say the grip damper is around 30% better then motion control. The Yari did bottom out less harsh. Weird thing I noticed is when you set up a fox (with a grip damper) perfectly and over shoot a jump or drop, the fork has a super harsh bottom out meanwhile RockShox has a cushioned bottom out feel. I’ve felt this with a 2017 Fox performance 36 and my 2021 Fox Rythm 36 when compared to a 2016 RockShox Pike and the RockShox Yari 2020.
I’m actually replacing the fork on my Status 160 with a Yari 170 (27.5) from my hardtail that I’ll be upgrading to 180 with debonair. The Yari was just so good
This review is so much Fucking spot on
I have this bike and everyone in their review is like this is super playful bmx style enduro etc.
But status is overall really stable and planted yet you can throw it around. Everything on the build is solid. Chainstay is not the quitests, but still ok. Torque values is something I did not find yet and I hope I will when the time comes... I just hope older specialized enduro torque values will fit this as this bike has a lot of common with that bike. Waranty is super nice... bought this bike used from specialized bikeshop owner so I am legally first owner with waranty for less buck. Downtube protector... just yes... this bike should come with it after couple of rides I was concerned especially if you run sus more soft and have flip chip in low - solved this by buying custom downtube protector from germany originally for stumpy. The only thing I have changed is DHF DHRII with tire insert in the back and ergon grips everything else is stock and the bike is killer. Also this bike only makes sense for me in the high setting.
Which tire insert did you go with?
What colour is the bike please?
What mud guard is that
where did you get the bottom bracket protector
I made it out of Kydex. I’ll make a video on how to do it soon.
i went to my local bike shop and thay had both the 160 ard 140
i don’t know shit abt MTB but i’ve heard it’s a lil of a pain to climb with. so what’s can you do to make it a easier climb bike ?
No problem with climbing in my opinion
I get a lot of pedal strikes that I find quite annoying. I love everything else about it but man this bike is low. Any thoughts?
I’m guessing you bought the bike as a complete build? If so, they come with 170mm cranks, so upgrading to 165mm might be something to look into.
@@Kaedenfu yep I did and wow thank you this is very helpful! I will definitely do this
@@TheHottuna66 No problem! Thanks for watching!
Same issue mate. Even in high flip-chip position. This bike has a pretty low BB height.
@@bike-czech I’ve never put it in the low position because it’s already so low I feel like I’m going to pedal strike a flat trail.
How does it compare to the poly? What's the weight ?
Doesn’t climb as good as the N7, but I can just flip the switch on the dpx2. Haven’t weighed it yet but feels like it’s around 35 pounds compared to the 37 pound N7. The status descends better as the suspension design is more linear and head tube angle is slacker. Another big thing is the specialized is all bearings meanwhile the N7 has bushings.
@@Kaedenfu I've been waiting for bushings from polygon since may... Looking into what's next
@@Mikesonbikes Dang, have they responded? When I was dealing with them, they responded but kept shipping out the wrong stuff. The status is definitely a great choice when your in the market for a new bike.
I can send you the torque values if you want. I bought mine new and I've got the manual.
do you think you could send the values to me please?
@@petrmatousek7422 Will do, I'll send it to you later today.
@@guitaroidman524 Thanks man keep shredding and wish you wonderful season
I'm 5'10'' and riding S3 :)
Nice! I like longer bikes for the stability. I bet the s3 is much more playful though.
Me too. It's perfect.
im 5'7'' with short arms, and riding S2, fits just perfectly, with a s3 my arms would be fully stretched
@@Kaedenfu how tall are you? Im 5'10 and torn between the S3 / S4. Your riding looked plenty playful !
Did u get rid of ur n7
i think he sold it
I did
How tall are you?
5 feet 10 inches
@@Kaedenfu awesome, I’m 5 foot 9 and have an S4 available I want to jump on. I mainly ride enduro and tend to size up so I’m always on a large, but the reach on this is substantially more than most larges. Do you feel like 5’9 would be pushing it for an S4?
@@jjobs96 depends on what you want. The S4 will feel more planted and stable, meanwhile the S3 will feel more lively. If you do a lot of enduro, chunky downhills and rarely climb, S4 is great. If you climb uphills and more flat and flowy trails, S3 is great,
@@jjobs96 if you had the the option to get either the S3 or S4, I’d recommend getting the S3. People my size have been riding the S3 and they say it feels a bit more playful.
