I'll agree it lets restaurants show their best. But at the same time, it's gives an unfair view on the average quality of the food and service.

I like the hidden cam. Even if the quality drops a little it's worth it. I like the close up dynamic views we get too with the phone camera.

Exactly to get a real experience everyone gets that includes service don't tell them what your doing ever or let them even get onto.
Daym keep it incognito. No excuse for any restaurant in the tri state area, or bordering an ocean, for that matter, to have suspect fish. It's just laziness or not throwing out older product because of cutting costs. Looked like a real piece of Cod, but definitely not caught this month!
I was thinking the same thing. "Fresh Frozen" isn't a THING with that much seafood access!

skin on the fish is a no go when you fry it. it traps the fats and it leaves the side with the skin soggy

The fish didn't look too fresh. Definitely a good idea to go in covertly. More of a chance to get the service and food that a regular person would recieve.
Definitely looks like frozen fish, and not even good quality frozen fish, middle of the pack frozen fish. I question if they even do their own batter or if it is pre made because you'd expect a cajun joint to have a cajun seasoning on the fish with some herbs and spices blended in for extra flavour.

@@chrise5011 I've worked on a commercial fishing boat before, you HAVE to freeze the fish because you're out at sea for at least 10 days at a time, unless you're a small boat fisherman who goes in and back fishing daily ofc your fish is frozen there's nothing wrong with it. Also freezing fish kills off any parasites and I know the fish here is fried anyway but c'mon what daily fisherman is gonna be supplying cities restaurants with enough fish all day every day? not many if any.

I'm 32. I've been working in restaurants since I was 14, and I can assure you that most people unfortunately put way more effort into what's going on if they thing something special, or someone reviewing is coming in. This is the way to do it. You ain't getting the right "normal" service if they see you with your cameras. Trust me on that.

Definitely like the hidden camera, it really gives you a true experience of how they treat any customer when they don't know who you are or what you're there for besides just eating.
That fish looks nasty and grey... When it comes to Fish and chips you want a nice, thick, meaty bit of white fish... if I was given that, I'd have taken it back... But then, I live right on the coast of England, we know how to do fish and chips right! And $15 for two dinky slivers of nasty looking fish and a small handfull of chips? Hell, you get twice that for half the price (£6.50) at my local chippy (Fish and chip shop)...

It looked like trout, which is way less fatty than that yummy cod. Almost like venison vs beef. Thing with trout is you gotta go crazy on the seasonings, my stepmom's specialty was cajun blackened trout and catfish, depending on what my dad caught that week.

That fish looked absolutely appalling. I wouldn’t have even entertained taking a bite of it. It would have went back.
That fish looked a lot like mullet or a much cheaper fish than cod. Some joints will do that to cut costs. Love the vids.

I think it's best to put these "worse" spots to the test and visit them during lunch hour; that's when you're guaranteed to get something fresh and something that wasn't sitting out.

It seems for most of these dine in places, Daym goes to early right after they open.
Ooo H€LL Na!!! They did my boy mad dirty!!! The reason why it tasted fishy is because that fish is old, freezer burnt and it's probably got some nasty skin that was really oily before they even froze it! Bro the inside of that fish didn't even look edible! How can you even take a bite? Which means if the fish is bad the lobsters going to be bad! The situation played out exactly how I would think it would! Considering the quality... This is a -20 Boo-Boo the Fool! Bro I pray you didn't get sick!!! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

Liking the incognito. I think for reviews that mention poor service during busy times, you should try going at the same times to try and recreate the same issues, rather than early in the morning when they're quiet.

i like the idea of the phone cam to start, but can you switch to the camera gear after you get the food? will the rig fit into a back pack or brief case? i do like seeing the food in hi-def but don't mind the phone quality. keep this series going, i love it, great infotainment.
