VikingPotatoes Destiny is good (They have Tyrrion Lannister *pun intended*). Watchdogs is fucking horrible, that game has such a poor optimization. I cant even run it on medium settings (My PC runs Battlefield 4 on ultra and never drops below 70 fps). And Titanfall, i never played. :)
Also, I'm sure many have said this... Joe needs a noise gate for that mic! You can really tell when he announces the game and it's ranking, when his mic cuts out you hear that noise and then it sounds suddenly quiet.

Glad to see you're giving Final Fantasy another shot, Joe. And what you'll quickly realize, is that every Final Fantasy is nearly completely built from scratch. Everything from the gameplay to the story is approached from a different angle and perspective, and no two games are alike.

To say "gameplay returns" implies that there was any gameplay in FF games to begin with. (and no, i dont consider anything turnbased to be reasonable rpg gameplay after 2001. if fable gave us reasonable rpg gameplay for the first xbox, there is no excuse for FF to be so far behind. I mean it took then till 2014 to have actual gameplay...) FF was always about the story, so if they can pull this off (which i dont think currant squenix can) it will be amazing but there hasnt been a good FF game since 7 (i hated X and X2. screw yuna) so i wouldnt get hyped just yet

And dragonage does have terrible combat because it was designed to be played pause and play over the top view (dragonage origins pc AKA the way it was meant to be played) As for actual rpgs that were designed for real time combat, just take a look at Dark Souls or Witcher II or even Dragons Dogma
A good game is made of the sum of its parts not just gameplay, but gameplay is huge in selling games to an audience. games like xcom and even things like fire emblem and shinmegami tensei remain niche due to their combat systems in my opinion. And gameplay definitely can be outdated. (example: where is the $60 Tripple A Pong 2014 or the $60 Tripple A Tetris?) Dont get me wrong strategic gameplay definitely has its place, but it is not in AAA $60 character centric rpgs imo. just my 2 cents :/

I feel bad for people who haven't played any of the Souls games. Not only have you missed out on one of the best RPG franchises out there in terms of story and difficulty, but Dark Souls 2 will kick the newcomers asses.
William Fenton I find that very hard to fathom. Most people i know gave the game up even before it started, but I feel blessed for having the patience of keeping it up, because I really was immensely rewarded. One of the best single-player games (with some multiplayer elements embedded) I have EVER played. And I have played countless of games the last 20 years. It felt like going back to the time where games were actually challenging, and the storytelling, gameplay, story - everything was unlike anything I had played before.
Of course, if you bought it. MSAmberKat-- and by common opinion, it is a rewarding experience. I do know well if I like a game or not, I've been playing games since about 1990-- I just really - personally - didn't like the feel of Dark Souls. Every aspect, essentially. I have to say, as far as I thought, it felt kind of cheap and dated.

I had to watch this a few times so I can provide my thoughts on the most anticipated games of 2014. Time for my thoughts on each. 20) Six years... damn. Really looking forward to getting my hands on it. I love Dynasty Warriors and seeing it motivating this game, I am excited. 19) Oh this game is going to be fun. It has that Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit feel but it steps it up with what you said. All I can say is... with this game, ROAD TRIP! 18) I'm a little skeptical since I've lost faith in Capcom with their bad decisions. I don't know if I ever plan on getting this but unless it's something, I'll pass. 17) I love the MGS franchise and they never disappoint. I'm hoping that MGSV: Ground Zeroes does the same. I also look forward to the big one... The Phantom Pain. 16) This is going to shit my pants and I mean literally. If this game succeeds to what Resident Evil cannot, I know it'll truly be fun... and scary. 15) Dark Souls II... oh man. If Dark Souls shows just how hard it is then the sequel is going to be insane! 14) I hope that Creative Assembly can pull it off. After the mess they did with Total War: Rome II, I'm on the fence. honestly, I don't see why people are excited of strategy games/turn-based RPG's, they're so boring and it feels as though you're not in control. I prefer games in which you move around freely and have the luxery of fighting freely rather than pressing buttons (Example: Final Fantasy & Warhammer). I also hate games in which you don't defend yourself and have to hide/run to survive, again, ruins the fun.
Some people want to use their brains when they do things ;) But on a more serious note, many turn based games have an enormous complexity and steep learning curve. Whilst most "fast paced" games lean more towards the brainless action direction. An elitist would say that one is for the simpletons whilst the other is for the smart, a 'normal' person would say its about taste. But looking at where the gaming industry is turning their focus lately (the masses) I'm becoming more and more of an elitist in my thinking. More and more games that used to be complex and had depth and had a hardcore fanbase, has been sold out into dumbed down versions of their former glory so that more people will buy them (often followed with an enormous forceful marketing). I'll just stop my ranting before it get to be to long!

John Peck Because I still like the franchise a lot. The only CoD installment that's ever disappointed me was Ghosts. However, considering the fact that Sledgehammer is making Advanced Warfare, I think they deserve the benefit of the doubt considering they've never developed their own CoD before and this one has been in development for 3 years.
I honestly don't get the hype for Titan Fall, seems like a another Halo game to me and I would be looking forward to playing the Division but it's in New York (yea, real original choice of location there, Ubisoft *rolls eyes*).
Jonmichael Platt lol I love how people are playing up the mechs "we have mechs" well sorta, you more have large soldiers with lots of health and bigger guns... Really everything shown so far doesn't have me excited, but maybe I am jaded. I will play it, have a bit of fun but I doubt I will be playing it for more than a month or too of the initial honeymooon period.

Guys, if you're excited about FF15 I would advise that you be very cautious. Not saying it will be bad it could go either way, but since FFX Square has had this really bad habit of focusing more on making each game different in terms of gameplay while also forgetting to make it fun and to add an engaging story and some actual characters. Just saying don't get too hyped up, it might come falling down on you hard.

I've been a fan of FF since FFIII. I'm pretty sure this is still gonna appeal to me considering beforehand the only reason i play the games is to practically immerse myself in the story. So by changing the gameplay to something similar to a more traditional JRPG I'm pretty happy. Note that i haven't played FFIX through to FFXII. Just all the other ones although i don't like FFXIV so maybe I won't like FFXV but nevertheless I'm still excited for it. For me there is no better way to read a story except through eastern storytelling.

I kind of thought it was common knowledge that Bethesda had been tight lipped about it so far. And yes based on release history there is a fair chance that x-mas 2015 FO4 might hit but that is the best possible outcome. It is more likely that 2016 Q2 will be the release focus. So in conclusion this will be an anticipated possible release for videos in 2015. Just based on the slim chance of release.

I want a game that you can control a massive submarine maybe, you can see damage done to it and lose people and you go n missions to retrieve lost alien artifacts that had crashed underwater when really they were eggs. They were born into water aliens that can fight in water and on land. You have to upgrade and turn your little submarine into a badass underwater mech to take out the aliens and it's queen. a first person shooter but you run around in the underwater mech communicating with the crew and telling people when to fire at aliens and manning the guns yourself. That would be freaking awesome.
Witcher 3 is going to be amazing. Hell Witcher 2 is still the best RPG out. Add to that the requirements will bring top tier PC's to their knees, and you know its going to look amazing and play great too.
2014 has been the year of disappointments. So many people judged games before it was released and got disappointing. I remember when people said Destiny would be the best game ever and Watch Dogs would be the GTA killer and don't get me started on assassin's creed unity. These people have to learn the lesson don't judge a book by its cover or in gaming terms, don't judge a game by its hype.
Joe, I HIGHLY suggest you just get a PS3 for cheap and buy ALL the Sony exclusives you've missed out on so that you're 100% ready for their sequels on the PS4. I know PS Now is coming out with its own streaming service, but I'm pretty sure that's going to come out AFTER Second Son comes out. Even if it were to come out before then, who's to say how long it'd take for Sony to put all of the triple-A games you've missed out on?
*Watch Dogs was an -amazing- average game, -great- crap story, took about 22 hours to finish, with -minimal- high distraction from the mini quests. 2 stars for me! There you go..
I agree. The hacking introduced a new way to play the game. You know that mission where you had to guide the hacker dude out of the facility? I used the blackout gadget and performed a silent kill on all of the guards lol. The overall game was great and the story was stellar. It was also fun to invade people's privacy and find out their dirty little secrets :) oh and spider tank?! 5 stars within itself.

VikingPotatoes Destiny is good (They have Tyrrion Lannister *pun intended*). Watchdogs is fucking horrible, that game has such a poor optimization. I cant even run it on medium settings (My PC runs Battlefield 4 on ultra and never drops below 70 fps). And Titanfall, i never played. :)

Personally I feel like 2013 definitely a year that did lack something, but 2014 was a year of empty promises. The biggest games more or less all fall flat on their faces, and the ones that everyone's still on the hype-train for were all pushed back to 2015. Hopefully the games that are coming out within the next year pick it up the pieces and relieves the awful taste in my mouth
PS. I have absolutely NO hate towards Joe for the way some of these games turned out. Its the hype-train that killed the games this year.
P.P.S. some other games I am personally pumped for are still AC Unity and of course, Super Smash Bros 4. SSB4 is almost a system seller for me

To say "gameplay returns" implies that there was any gameplay in FF games to begin with. (and no, i dont consider anything turnbased to be reasonable rpg gameplay after 2001. if fable gave us reasonable rpg gameplay for the first xbox, there is no excuse for FF to be so far behind. I mean it took then till 2014 to have actual gameplay...) FF was always about the story, so if they can pull this off (which i dont think currant squenix can) it will be amazing but there hasnt been a good FF game since 7 (i hated X and X2. screw yuna) so i wouldnt get hyped just yet

I wasnt saying that turn based does not have advantages over real time, i was saying its such an outdated system that its completely pales to modern equivalents. And dragonage does have terrible combat because it was designed to be played pause and play over the top view (dragonage origins pc AKA the way it was meant to be played) As for actual rpgs that were designed for real time combat, just take a look at Dark Souls or Witcher II or even Dragons Dogma
A good game is made of the sum of its parts not just gameplay, but gameplay is huge in selling games to an audience. games like xcom and even things like fire emblem and shinmegami tensei remain niche due to their combat systems in my opinion. And gameplay definitely can be outdated. (example: where is the $60 Tripple A Pong 2014 or the $60 Tripple A Tetris?) Dont get me wrong strategic gameplay definitely has its place, but it is not in AAA $60 character centric rpgs imo. just my 2 cents :/

Most people i know gave the game up even before it started, but I feel blessed for having the patience of keeping it up, because I really was immensely rewarded. One of the best single-player games (with some multiplayer elements embedded) I have EVER played. And I have played countless of games the last 20 years. It felt like going back to the time where games were actually challenging, and the storytelling, gameplay, story - everything was unlike anything I had played before.
So..i bought "Dark Souls: Prepare to die edition" during a steam sale...should I give it a try?

I do know well if I like a game or not, I've been playing games since about 1990-- I just really - personally - didn't like the feel of Dark Souls. Every aspect, essentially. I have to say, as far as I thought, it felt kind of cheap and dated.
MsAmberKat youre gonna die, A LOT, prepare for some oldschool, hands off, learning the game by losing design, but its addictive, certain enemies are like bosses. I love it, but non action casual types BEWARE! And GET A GOOD CONTROLLER, I have the 360 wired controller and its perfect for it.

20) Six years... damn. Really looking forward to getting my hands on it. I love Dynasty Warriors and seeing it motivating this game, I am excited.
19) Oh this game is going to be fun. It has that Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit feel but it steps it up with what you said. All I can say is... with this game, ROAD TRIP!
18) I'm a little skeptical since I've lost faith in Capcom with their bad decisions. I don't know if I ever plan on getting this but unless it's something, I'll pass.
17) I love the MGS franchise and they never disappoint. I'm hoping that MGSV: Ground Zeroes does the same. I also look forward to the big one... The Phantom Pain.

5) Creative Assembly better not fuck it up. Empire Total War, Napoleon and Rome 2 have been their blunders. Shogun 2 was one that it did well. THIS and Alien Isolation better not mess up.
4) Now I want to try out that module for sure. Waiting a year is going to be worth it though some stuff like microtransactions need to go. It's unnecessary.
3) Final. Fantasy. XV. You have no idea how fucking excited I am for this! I am so excited for this game. I really mean it! I am looking forward to this!

honestly, I don't see why people are excited of strategy games/turn-based RPG's, they're so boring and it feels as though you're not in control. I prefer games in which you move around freely and have the luxery of fighting freely rather than pressing buttons (Example: Final Fantasy & Warhammer). I also hate games in which you don't defend yourself and have to hide/run to survive, again, ruins the fun.
Everyone has their own taste.

But on a more serious note, many turn based games have an enormous complexity and steep learning curve. Whilst most "fast paced" games lean more towards the brainless action direction.
An elitist would say that one is for the simpletons whilst the other is for the smart, a 'normal' person would say its about taste. But looking at where the gaming industry is turning their focus lately (the masses) I'm becoming more and more of an elitist in my thinking. More and more games that used to be complex and had depth and had a hardcore fanbase, has been sold out into dumbed down versions of their former glory so that more people will buy them (often followed with an enormous forceful marketing). I'll just stop my ranting before it get to be to long!

Guys, if you're excited about FF15 I would advise that you be very cautious. Not saying it will be bad it could go either way, but since FFX Square has had this really bad habit of focusing more on making each game different in terms of gameplay while also forgetting to make it fun and to add an engaging story and some actual characters. Just saying don't get too hyped up, it might come falling down on you hard.
I'm hyped because if it's bad, Spoony will tear it apart.

FFXV isn't going to appeal to current fans of FF and doesn't appeal to fans of western RPGs, this looks like Metal Gear Rising happened to Final Fantasy. Have a little Faith on Nomura man, he's one the few guys that can still make good RPG's in Square Enix. Heck Crisis Core proved that he can make likable characters and a good plot if XV is at least half as good as what people expect, it can still be successful.

If people freak positively over that, then you're making a very unintelligent statement to say they won't over FFXV (Which they are), especially since a lot of FF fans are fans of KH.
I've been a fan of FF since FFIII. I'm pretty sure this is still gonna appeal to me considering beforehand the only reason i play the games is to practically immerse myself in the story. So by changing the gameplay to something similar to a more traditional JRPG I'm pretty happy. Note that i haven't played FFIX through to FFXII. Just all the other ones although i don't like FFXIV so maybe I won't like FFXV but nevertheless I'm still excited for it. For me there is no better way to read a story except through eastern storytelling.
The problem about these videos is that there are always those people who are butthurt that Joe doesn't like their all-time favorite, super-duper-best-gameoftheyear-game coming out. They have to tell everyone about it, then promptly unsubscribe.

I kind of thought it was common knowledge that Bethesda had been tight lipped about it so far. And yes based on release history there is a fair chance that x-mas 2015 FO4 might hit but that is the best possible outcome. It is more likely that 2016 Q2 will be the release focus. So in conclusion this will be an anticipated possible release for videos in 2015. Just based on the slim chance of release.

I want a game that you can control a massive submarine maybe, you can see damage done to it and lose people and you go n missions to retrieve lost alien artifacts that had crashed underwater when really they were eggs. They were born into water aliens that can fight in water and on land. You have to upgrade and turn your little submarine into a badass underwater mech to take out the aliens and it's queen. a first person shooter but you run around in the underwater mech communicating with the crew and telling people when to fire at aliens and manning the guns yourself. That would be freaking awesome.

Witcher 3 is going to be amazing. Hell Witcher 2 is still the best RPG out. Add to that the requirements will bring top tier PC's to their knees, and you know its going to look amazing and play great too.

2014 has been the year of disappointments. So many people judged games before it was released and got disappointing. I remember when people said Destiny would be the best game ever and Watch Dogs would be the GTA killer and don't get me started on assassin's creed unity. These people have to learn the lesson don't judge a book by its cover or in gaming terms, don't judge a game by its hype.

Joe, I HIGHLY suggest you just get a PS3 for cheap and buy ALL the Sony exclusives you've missed out on so that you're 100% ready for their sequels on the PS4. I know PS Now is coming out with its own streaming service, but I'm pretty sure that's going to come out AFTER Second Son comes out. Even if it were to come out before then, who's to say how long it'd take for Sony to put all of the triple-A games you've missed out on?

I agree. The hacking introduced a new way to play the game. You know that mission where you had to guide the hacker dude out of the facility? I used the blackout gadget and performed a silent kill on all of the guards lol. The overall game was great and the story was stellar. It was also fun to invade people's privacy and find out their dirty little secrets :) oh and spider tank?! 5 stars within itself.
But the protaganist is a bit boring and lacks emotion.
he seemed numb to me, after suffering like he had, it seemed like he was hiding all his emotions rather than face them, which could have been disastrous in his revenge plan. but that's just how i choose to see it
