Finally someone who actually understands what a good game is. I've always been saying that metro and tomb raider are AMAZING, and no one even included them in the top 10. But these 2 games are seriously one of the best games this year. Good job Joe, totally agree with you.
I haven't played Metro, but I don't know about Tomb Raider being in the top 5. I'd put it at top 8-10. It started off really great as a survival story with Lara as an inexperienced character that had to come to terms with how to survive in this world. Towards the end, she just becomes a totally generic character to fill the place in the story she had to so it could keep going. It had some great story moments. It had frighteningly smooth game controls. It had insanely beautiful graphics. But overall it was just that - so incredibly solid to the point of being amazing, but not particularly wondrous in any other way.
I dont agree with Joe's notion that Daisy Fitzroy's character was cheapened into a villain. The whole notion of Bioshock's story from BS1 to Infinite is that a good and noble cause can be perverted and destroyed. Andrew Ryan's dream was to have a city with true freedom, where everyone could excel and not be held back by pointless rules and fears. Comstock wanted a perfect civilized world, however in his mind, other races were less than equal so they would not fit in and were not given a chance at that world. Daisy wanted fairness for the working man, and the oppressed, however like in the communist revolution in Russia, tens of thousands of people were executed simply for being on the "wrong" side. Causes, no matter the rightness of their cause, can easily be manipulated and corrupted and its rightness will be buried in blood.
My top 10: 10. Rayman Legends 9. Papers, Please 8. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag 7. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds 6. Tomb Raider 5. Gone Home 4. Super Mario 3D World 3. Bioshock Infinite 2. Grand Theft Auto V 1. The Last of Us
FINALLY! Somebody mentions Call of Juarez Gunslinger in a Top 10 list. Old Western FPS games are freaking fantastic but no developers want to make any. I just wish they'd make more Western games in general. Such an underrated gem.
*SPOILER WARNING* On the topic of Bioshock Infinite and the Vox, there's one thing you seemed to miss. The Daisy you encounter first and the Daisy you encounter later are NOT the same person. They are alternate versions of each other, one where violence isn't an option, and another where violence is the only option. The version of Daisy you meet later is also spurred on by an alternate Booker, who joined her cause and died for it. The reason she tries to have you killed later in the game is because she thinks you are a false Booker (which you technically are), rather than the hero who died for her cause. To say it's a weak plot point makes me think you completely missed the point the entire game was built around. Constants and variables, alternatives based on choices and events.
Wow you are right i totally forgot about that ! And lol im replaying it now because i just bought the dlc ! LoL the moment joe said that! i was like i remember there was a reason for that! Thank you for the reminder !
Aulis Vaara Oh, and I'm sure you could go on for hours. In fact, I'd wager you could go on for weeks. I just find it funny that even weeks after his controversy video, you would still have this petty little grudge just because he didn't completely side against someone on a particular issue.
Aulis Vaara Dunno fella…your first paragraph still gives me the tiniest of hunches that you’re holding a grudge. Also, Joe did criticizes her. He went at length about how he didn't agree with her practices of still Let’s Play footage, and how he didn't particularly approve of her shutting off the comments to her videos. No, what you’re argument seems to have less to do with objectivism, and more to do with…well, not choosing the side that's completely against the other, which isn't objective by the very definition of the word. If you truly believed in this grey area where nothing is either black or white, then you’d also be defending at least “some” of her points. You haven’t though; instead, you've already labeled her as this kind of villain. That’s not objectivism; that’s very much a point with a definitive single side. I mean, that’s like calling someone the devil, and then when someone questions you on that, you reply with, “Oh, well I’m just being objective”. To quote so many detractors before you, "The road goes both ways"
Aulis Vaara Well, if you were truly as objective of a person as you claim to be, you could with a little bit of digging. For example, I think both sides can agree that at the very least, “The Damsel in Distress” is lazy writing (at least in its most non-offensive cases). Where it goes to from there is a completely different discussion entirely, BUT at the very least, you could claim some objectivity in the discussion. In your second paragraph…you’re kind of going in this logical loop. I mean I get it…in a way. You’re claiming that it’s not because you don’t necessarily believe that good points can’t be found…it’s just you haven’t found them yet. Which fine, that would make sense if that were true, but my example in the first paragraph proves that there’s at least some tiny bit of white to what Anita has to say, even if you believe that rest of it is black. I can’t quite recall the exact the time stamp, but it was definitely somewhere after mentioning the user MundaneMatt that he then goes into the actual legitimate arguments against her.
Your Bioshock Infinite Vox Populi point was stupid. Just take a look at the middle east, at Syria for example, are any of the fighting sides innocent little lambs? No, they all commited some atrocities, same goes for every other war in all of history, the winner isn't the ''good guy'', the winner is just the winner.
I love how people miss out the fact that this is JOE's personal list of top 10 games, not some official review list of some sort. He can't rank games he haven't played (hinting at The Last Of Us)
I love how YOU failed to hear him telling us to write if we disagree in the comment section. Actually trying to make us discuss the affairs of video games, instead of just accepting his list as fact. He does not mind us bitching about his list. Quite the opposite in fact (also more comments helps him out in general)
Kasper Damm I didn't mean the people who made their lists, I was talking about the people pointing Joe to be completely wrong & ask him why HE didn't put certain games on the list. He told us to discuss OUR favorite games of 2013, not tell Joe that his list is wrong & that he needs to correct it. So I heard him perfectly fine, good sir.
+Bigrock412 Actually I have played these games on my ps3(exception: BioShock infinite at my friend's pc) and I found them to be great. As far as outlast is concerned, I don't know about the game since it's available for next gen consoles and pc only.It does look pretty good though.
Joe, ever considered that Daisy wasn't meant to be a role-model and suppose to symbolize that 2 wrongs don't make a right and that there is no such thing as good or evil?
Finally, even Joe finally appreciates Saints Row 4 just like Zero Punctuation. Games these days just don't know what to do what they SHOULD Be doing. Letting people have actual fun.
Joe...on Bioshock Infinite and the racism...well guess what oppressed minorities can be just as fucking brutal as their oppressors when they rise up in arms.
He just doesn't understand it, it would seem. No rhetoric that sounds like "One side is 100% good and another is 100% bad" can be true, not to mention it's just superficial.
I agree, that was what made Daisy a really amazing character. Human, flawed, carrying the burden of being a leader. Another great example of hunger for freedom turned into mad hunger for power and revenge, so yes, I agree with Booker when he says that she and Comstock are not that different.
Also got to take into account that this is a different world where *SPOILER ALERT* Booker joined the Vox and died for their cause. It's also entirely possible that the Fitzroy in THAT reality had different ways of doing things. I think Joe forgets that even though they look the same and live *mostly* the same lives, they are very different people from each other. A single different decision or life event can change their outlook on life and how react. Hell isn't that one of the big twists at the end of the game?
And this is how I feel about Assassin's Creed I think the Templars have a story to tell. They are depicted as an evil organization, as a player, i've considered the Assassin's just as evil, freedom through chaos. If i'm living the memory of these Assassin's of course they would feel their action was justified and their memories would reflect this. I would like a game from their point of view. Both sides are being played and manipulated by the first civilization anyway.
+Lucas Hunter GTA is GTA... Being released in 2014 doesn't mean anything. It was the exact same game but with better graphics, pointless little extras and all the free DLC they had been adding the previous year... Besides... If we're to count with "Remasters" because, let's face it.. That's what GTA V on PS4 and PC is... Then 2014's "goty" would have gone to The Last of Us Remastered. Which funny enough is most likely the game that Joe would have put in #1 here had he played it back on the PS3. Hence the 10/10 Legendary score on his review.
Lol no... GTA Is a good game... V I mean... But for example... 4 was fucking better when it comes to emotional impact and involvement. Niko, Roman, Bruce, Jacob, Dwayne, Packie, etc...
Red Dead Redemption had a beautifully executed story, in a fantastic setting, great visuals, design, etc... It was a strong and memorable game. One that was also super risky due to being a dead genre (Western). To me what makes a game great is the impact it is able to give me. And the memories. So basically, even if the game is one of those adventure type of games with the pointing and clicking (Like telltale for example) if it is greatly executed, it can be put on my favorite's list. Of course I count if a game is fun to play as well, (mechanics and all included) but the main thing for me is the story it tells and its characters. As for the handling of RDR? It handled beyond fine on my 360, never had any issues if you're talking about performance. If you're talking about actual game mechanics... There were some minor flaws but all in all they were far too small. RDR is basically the first game that made me shed a tear for its story and characters.
As someone who grew up in Northern Ireland with the IRA being thought of as "Good guys" by one half and seen as "Bad guys" by the other, I can totally get what they did with the Vox Populi in Bioshock and kinda respect them for it. It might be something Americans can't really get, since that divide of terrorists fighting "repression" and a "repressive government" trying to keep control is not something they ever had to deal with in day to day life. I thought it was good, bit clunky and rushed but good.
I'm an American and I get it. Hell, just look at the war in the Middle East right now. The Taliban was trained by the CIA back in the 80's to fight against Russian occupiers. Not really the good guys any more, now are they? It really doesn't make sense for Joe to say that such a turn in the story is unrealistic, unless he thinks it is "unrealistic" for this exact thing happening again and again throughout history.
I'm an American and I get it. I see what Booker means when he says "the only difference is how you spell their name". The government for example tries to say "we're doing this for the good of the people" when they really have their own agenda. When there is a cause to fight for, people can easily make that cause to serve their own purpose.
Problem with SR4 to me was the whole change of the series after the first two. If it was made as a spin off then yeah... but it wasn't. I want it to be back to the gang style... the real saints. As for GTA V... because of GTA Online it is simply the best game I have ever played. I don't even need to go into detail. Awesome video Joe! Awesome games.
Agreed. Saints Row should've stayed a poor man's GTA. Constantly trying to reach the same level but never making it was a sound idea. Then they had to go and change the whole tone from the dreary, pulp fiction stuff to the wacky and fun-loving nonsense. What bullshit, right? I mean, everyone else is making serious games, why shouldn't Volition?
I had never played a SR before 3 but I loved it so much. I put 40hrs into the console version and I have 20hrs so far on PC. I guess it was a way to expand their fan base
ddgafd woah dude, so hostile. I was just explaining my point. I enjoyed the games more when they were the gang style games, the new style is not for me and a few other people I know agree with me. What I said was they should have made it a spin off rather than exploiting their fanbase by giving it the SR name. Well making it part of the main series. Should have been Saints Row: Whatever rather than calling it SR3 or SR4 because they are totally different to SR2 and SR1.
I want them to make Saints Row 2 style games again. I've been getting tired of GTA lately, and if they would have stuck with the SR2 style, they could have became king of the genre in my opinion. They took the stupidity too far and completely jumped the shark with SR4 so I have a feeling there's no turning back. Shame, because SR2 was probably the best sandbox crime game I've ever played.

Eh Joe, your criticism about Bioshock is really weird. There's a ton of things to grab hold of, but you choose to single out the fact that the writers wrote the different factions to be ambiguous? You say they are different, even though the writers didn't write them like that? What? If the writers wrote that they are similarly extremist and intolerable, how is that not how it is? I didn't like Infinite very much, but it doesn't lie when it depicts how freedom fighters can turn into zealous psychos like the Vox Populi did in the game. The Mujahideen originally fought to keep Afghanistan free from the Soviets, but when the US invaded Afghanistan they started to murder civilians to pressure the US to move out. Simplified a bit of course, but I hope you see what I mean.
I agree, it seems like he overlooked how brilliantly they made the leader of the Vox a villain. & one of his reasonings for disliking it is because it ruined a good role model for gamers and girls? Well... Elizabeth is someone to look up to, especially at the end. He completely under minded and shitted on the writers skills without really getting the point of the twist.
I agree with you there. I think that Bioshock's story has alot of flaws, but I don't see the bit with the Vox Populi as one of them. I mean, what did he expect? The black people who had been enslaved all their lives win and then no harm comes to any of the whites and they set up a democratic government?
I have Bioshock: Infinite, and to be fair. I dont think that it was the storytelling that threw it so far down the list, even though he went on about it for so long. I've played it maybe half-way through, forcing myself to play it, just because i was waiting for the good stuff to come. "Okay, i'll play untill one more checkpoint, but if nothing good comes out of it, I'm dropping the game for good!" was said about 10 times while playing the game. The gameplay just made it so unbearable to play through that i just HAD to quit.
I'm sorry Joe, but your complaint about Daisy Fitzroy and the Vox Populi is straight-up childish. Are you seriously demanding a cut-and-dry, black-or-white, good guy vs bad guy dichotomy from *Bioshock*!? The entire point of Daisy's change was to show a character who becomes so wrapped up in fighting for her cause that she loses sight of the reason she was fighting in the first place -- because that kind of shit actually happens with groups like the Vox Populi! Just because you sympathize with their cause and their plight doesn't mean that they have to be "good guys", Joe.
I agree 100% on Black Flag being the best in the series, I've played them all and didn't enjoy any of them nearly as much as I have been enjoying Black Flag.
How can you not like AC II? Did you not like Ezio's charismatic personality? The emotional story? His vengeance? And finally finding love and building a family of his own? Personally he is (and always will be) my favourite Assassin on the series!
With time, i really got bored of the series, AC 3 disappointed me as i didn't really "connect" with Connor, neither feel his sorrow for the loss of his mother and his revenge and all that, with Ezio, they just continued on his story for far too long. But Edward is the person i must have been most connected to with his story about leaving home for adventure and getting some friends which he gets connected to and then the most of them die at the end...That's deep
"It was only like that because the writers did it" well no shit, sherlock. The writers make the story, the point was to show that there is no clear cut good or evil. Daisy was a monster willing to murder and pillage for her cause, shes no better. Grow up
She seemed as though she was just driven to psychopathic behavior from the stresses of what Columbia did to her. (completely armchair, I've never meaningfully played the game)
Basically, while her intentions started out as somewhat noble, she eventually became the monster she was trying to fight. The point of Columbia was that it corrupted everyone, the poor and downtrodden just as much as the high and mighty. Their hatred for each other eliminated the lines between good and evil. Daisy was never supposed to be a hero; she was just another side of madness.
I agree with you. The whole point of the game is that there is no good or bad, anyone can become corrupted. But, like Joe said, the whole game is just fantastic and the only complaints i have with it are nitpicky and don't take away the experience. Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite are still my favorite games of all times.
Joe the reason (at least what I got from it) that Daisy turned out to be this crazy bitch is that it was sorta supposed to be an allegory to the idea that "absolute power corrupts absolutely". Like if you've read the Hunger Games, it's that way in the last book. A lot of parallels were drawn by Elizabeth to the French revolution, and that was notorious for the fact that they overthrew their government but then the people that they put in power turned out to be almost as bad. The "hero" version that you get of Daisy before you actually meet her is just that, a version of what she really was. She appears to all the oppressed people as this hero, but you find out that when you meet her that the "Daisy" that people knew and loved wasn't exactly what she was (Google Herofication). She got so caught up in the evils of what was being done to both her and the people that she represented that she wanted retribution whatever the cost, and as history tells us, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. True evil is born when a person gets to the point that they view their opponents as less than human; Hitler did it, Comstock did it, and because of how Daisy was oppressed by Comstock and the elite in their society, Daisy began to do it as well.
10. Batman: Arkham Origins 9. Tomb Raider 8. Killzone: Shadowfall 7. Splinter Cell: Blacklist 6. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag 5. Metro Last Light 4. Ni No Kuni: Wrath Of The White Witch 3. Grand Theft Auto V 2. BioShock: Infinite 1. The Last Of Us
My personal top 10 best games of the year 10:Day one Garrys incident 9:Fast & Furious: Showdown 8:The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct 7:Call of duty Ghost 6:Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I Don't Know! 5:Infestation: Survivor Stories 4:Legends of Dawn 3:The Fighter Within 2:Final Fantasy All the Bravest and here it comes, the absolute masterpiece, game of the year! 1: RIDE TO HELL RETRIBUTION!
Joes gripe about Bioshock Infinite isn't really much of anything, the whole Daisy thing is meant to show that anyone can be a villain if pushed, it's foreshadowing for the ending twist..
I like how even with all the shit that's going on with CZcams copyright bullshit, Joe can still put on a good show and get excited about his work. Love you, Joe, you deserve way better than what Google's trying to pull with CZcams.
Joe can always upload things. CZcams just interferes with his ability to get paid. It is indeed bullshit, but it doesn't cut into his ability to create.
Valgaav19 True, but you have to give him credit for being positive and excited about his work when he's dealing with his livelihood being stolen from him. It takes a strong person to show that sort of enthusiasm despite all the shit he's dealing with. c:
3:15 Joe, I cannot stop laughing at the intro to #9! I have been a little depressed lately and this really picked me up. Thanks, man! Keep doing what you do!
It should be a crime to be a game reviewer that hasn't played TLoU. And putting SR4 above Metro and Tomb Raider was also quite insulting. Other than that, a good video.
Tabula Rasa Gaming What opinion? He hasn't played it to have an opinion. And that's my point, PS3 was one of the bigger platforms of last generation, someone who earns a living from being a game reviewer really has no excuse to not have it, especially these days when it's so cheap.
matt4045 Or maybe he wants to spend his money getting better equipment to make videos and to pump up the best way to game, PC gaming. I found that he seems to play a lot of PC games and to be honest that's the best way anyone can play. It's also the most expensive but lasts the longest and has a steeper graphics ability.
Ashley Durham There is *no* excuse for a game reviewer to not have the platform with the frequently argued best exclusives. It costs fuck all anyway, even with upgrading PCs etc he could easily afford one.
Unless you know he has bills. Not all youtubers still live with their parents. I'm sure he has a mortgage, utilities, and other bills to pay. CZcamsrs don't make that much and they aren't millionares.
The people in the comments saying ghost and battlefield should be on the list are making me laugh because really we know both games were over hyped and failed VERY bad!
I honestly would not mind either of those games being totally trashed. The entire call of duty group along with Battlefield. That goes for Halo, Final Fantasy, and pretty much any game that has been going for so long.
hunter peck FF is an rpg series, doesn't matter how long it is around for, it's the stories that matter. it's the games that are mostly copy and paste with little story that should be scrapped, cod, bf and any iPad game that takes more than a few hours to beat entirely. dynasty warriors could be one also, but at least that has lore and character info. hell, even Resi has great characters and stories, they just fucked it up with RE6, 5 was just barely acceptable, but 6... omg textbook inconsistency, i can't bring myself to play it anymore.
Define Fail? Cos BF 4 is currently the best looking game on Next Gen Consoles. Levolution is still amazing even after seeing it countless times. Yes it shouldnt be in the list but to call them fails is just shallow and unwarranted.
Daisy was never "a good guy". I think they were trying to show how power corrupts. Hell even during the loading screens journal entries Booker says he doesn't trust her at all. And what'd the Dark Knight do? Have their white knight turn bad with Harvey.
Joe- I love your show. I would boldly say that The Last of Us even tops GTA V. I know you mentioned that you didn't have a PS3, but almost all of the PS3 exclusive games are dynamite and I'm awe-struck as to why you never got multiple gaming consoles for your reviews in the first place. If you really praised Tomb Raiders game-play so highly I can tell you've never touched an Uncharted game before :P though Tomb Raider is a great game like you mentioned. I really want to see you do a review of The Last of Us. Within the first 15 minutes of the game you'll be tearing up. Such an amazing game, and deserves a solid review from one of the best in the bizzzz.
Great vid Joe! Really a great one! Every year i await your Best/worst games and im not disappointed! But could i ask you to make a Best/worst INDIE games?! :) Maybe not this year but for the next one? Indies are getting more and more popular. In 2012-2013 there was an explosion of really great indie games (i could even say that a lot of them are better than half of your bests list) Cheers mate! Love the show!
My Top 10 Games of 2013: 10. The Stanley Parable 9. Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon 8. Battlefield 4 7. Need for Speed: Rivals 6. Tomb Raider 5. Saints Row IV 4. Beyond: Two Souls 3. Bioshock Infinite 2. Grand Theft Auto V 1. The Last of Us
darkdestiny9106 AmitC1612 just why joe didn't play it, i mean a ps3 is nothing that he can't afford and xbox fucked him so much up with this kinect, drm always on bullshit, he could have switched the sides, but no... in 'murica everybody playes xbox regardless its bullshit or not...
Having sexual or sexualized content in games doesn't mean it is pandering, it means it has realism. People are not a-sexual. It plays a part in society. It is less realistic if there is absolutely no sexualization in a game full of adults.
I understand what you're saying about BioShock Infinite, but that's the point: Daisy Fitzroy was just as corruptible as the rest, and when faced with something that could unseat her from power, she dropped her act and revealed her true colors: noone in this world, good or bad, white or black, male or female (or whatever - duality is a big theme in it) is right, and the tears are allowing it all to go to hell, with civil war breaking out on all fronts. As for your contention about the 'creepy' racists, how many of the everyday citizens do you think were racist, and how many just wanted to live peacefully in Columbia? I saw it mostly as "things are good for us, so why would we question it?" and racism is deeply ingrained in their culture; it can't be so easily removed. It's a title that made me think and was really a lot of fun. The best thing about it? Definitely the music. How many games have you played where they took real pop songs and updated them to make cover versions that you could actually listen to? I thought that was awesome, especially the 'God Only Knows' and 'Everybody Wants to Rule the World' covers. Nothing is black and white 100% true in Columbia, 'cause there's always a dimension where something different happens. With the DLC, it seems that Comstock is the only one who can never change, 'cause he does horrible things over and over again, and history repeats itself around him regardless of whether he's aware of it or not!
9:10 Joe, Daisy Fitzroy is not a nice person, nor is she a particularly good one. She isn't fighting the Founders of Columbia because she wants equal rights for all citizens, whether they're black or white, rich or poor. She's fighting for revenge, for the chance to do to the Founders what has been done to her and everyone else in Columbia who isn't a rich, white southerner. She wants power, not equality, and she feels that any length she chooses to go to is justified because of what she's had to put up with for most of her life. And you feel for her, even when she's threatening to blow the head off Fink's kid. In this way, Daisy reminds me a lot of Harvey Dent (The Dark Knight version): a person with a great dream, so corrupted by their opponents that the dream, and even the means for achieving that dream, are bent, broken, and twisted into new and terrible forms. For Harvey (again, The Dark Knight version), this change happened very suddenly: the Joker killed his fiancee, and he barely managed to escape being killed himself, though he lost half his face in the process. This tragedy turned him from the noble D.A. Of Gotham, who wanted to fight crime in the courts instead of out on the streets, into a vengeance-fueled monstrosity, who murdered everyone he felt had wronged him. Daisy, on the other hand, endured years of being at the beck and call of people who thought, and treated her as if, she was less than human. She may have originally been able to see a world where people from all walks of life lived as equals, but as the years wore on, what Ms. Fitzroy wanted to do more than anything else was take revenge for all the abuse she had suffered because of her skin color, to turn her oppressors into the oppressed. So no, Joe, Daisy Fitzroy is not a straight up hero, nor was she ever supposed to be. She's a warning, and a damn well-written one too.
Doesn't matter, Thank god it was not on 1st-3rd list. The gameplay is just dull and boring. The shooting is just average at best. Also, finally Metro: LL gets above BI. Yeah I agree w/ TB so what?
Spot on! This game tried to show world how it is, not the sugar coated reality Joe wanted it to be. Daisy was never the hero, at first she wanted personal revenge and then power corrupted her. In the reality where she orders Bookers death he was suppose to be martyr of the revolution and died, from what I remember, it actually seemed that she made sure Booker was killed and was surprised that he returned from the dead. He became a threat for her as a leader and she had to kill him again. If you look at Africa, after the colonists left a new black elite quickly established that exploits the rest of population just as bad as the colonists did, some of them got to power while fighting for black rights like Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe. Bioshock was a game that made you think and make your own conclusions but Joe would rather see a game that tries to shovel down your throat some narrowminded ideology like most of Hollywood does these days.
"She's a warning, and a damn well-written one too." Well, apparently not, since Joe didn't see the warning. Also, please use paragraphs next time. Other than that, that was very well written.
I think the reason why Daisy changed was because of how her movement got to her head, and she got bloodthirsty, they say the road to hell is paved with good intentions and that might what was going on, Daisy got reckless and it ended up in her movement becoming a bunch of mass murderers instead of people who fight for equality, sure, the change is a little odd, but I don't think you should disregard the fact that it was a different Daisy, and not in the sense that the good Daisy (Daisy A) didn't become the exact opposite which is Daisy B, Daisy B is more a slight change from what Daisy A was, she didn't become this super evil person, she instead became reckless without knowing it, so the fight no longer turns into good guys vs bad guys, (Black & White) instead they are shades of grey. And those shades refer to what Booker was saying as he said they were as bad as each other. And by the end of her life Daisy then thought that they had to exterminate the Caucasian population (as she says to take the weed out by its root) which then makes the Vox Populi just as bad as Comstock and his men, when at first the Vox Populi fought for equality.
Top ten games that deserve to be GOTY: 5. the fighter within 4. Call of duty ghosts 3. Madden 25 2.Aliens: colonial marines 1. Ride to Hell: Retribution
Joe, to your point on Irrational's poor judgment in making Daisy Fitzroy's methods questionable, I think it reflects a great reality. Heroes are made by the ones writing their tales. In real life there's no such thing as an ideal hero who has no flaws. Heroes realize that the world is all about sacrificing for the greater good. And that blurs the line with history's greatest villains who think they were acting in the world's best interests too. To portray that in a videogame as a reflection is perhaps ill-advised in that it is an avenue for escapism but if they were trying to convey a message here, I think they got it bang on.
The only game i can think to add to this (Besides The last of us of course) is Rayman: Legends. That game was so freaking fun! If you enjoy video games you'll enjoy that game. 1. The Last of us. 2. Just forgot about Ratchet & Clank: Into the nexus. I'd put that in there over call of duty. Just couldn't think of any other games i had played at the time.
I don't think they were forcing you to choose sides at all in Bioshock. They were showing you how living to an ideal can narrow your perspective. The Vox thought they were fighting the good fight, and in a way they were. I'm sure it started out that way at least, but once they had the power they went bad with it. It wasn't about fighting injustice anymore, it became about revenge. You can't tell me everybody in Columbia was a giant zealous racist. That's like saying everybody that lives in the South is a yankee hating biggot. I grew up in a religious family and I'm not religious. You don't always inherit your parent's beliefs and values. The Vox killed their fair share of innocents in the chaos I'm sure. Booker and Elizabeth were just trying to leave. In fact Booker seemed like he was trying to fight against joining the Vox when Elizabeth started to sympathize with them. Which made sense, he was a Pinkerton and got involved in shady stuff in his past. The Vox made him nervous and he was trying to avoid getting wrapped up in their war with Columbia. You're free to disagree with me, but I feel like you kind of missed the point and misinterpreted the Vox as a hero when they were really just a different kind of monster in the end. A monster that Columbia made, but still no less evil for it. You can't just say they meant well. You know what they say about good intentions...
7 years old... but probably the best I have seen it been put. after all Booker is white, he'll probably always be seen as an enemy after they take and ruin Columbia.
I liked Bioshock's look at what Rebellion's can turn into. It's not always the Rebel Alliance. Desperate people can use any advantage they can get, and sometimes the initial goal is lost. Bioshock showed just how it could all fall apart. Hell, if you want an example of a rebellion that did not do a proper job of keeping its goal straight, look at French history. It doesn't always turn out like that, but it can. And that's what the Alt Universe thing was showing. Best of intentions can make it all come crashing down sometime. If you see it like Joe sees it, that's fine. But I like to see it as an interesting way to show how good intentions can be lost.
Big SC fan, but Conviction was hit or miss, mostly miss. Then I heard how Ironside wasn't voicing Sam Fisher in Blacklist and ever since have been putting off playing the game. Although, it seems like it's getting a lot of positive feedback, especially from veteran SC players. I'm more inclined to give it a try now.
ltrgman I know exactly what you mean, I was in the same boat and pissed that Ironside wasn't Sam anymore, but after I played it I realized what a mistake that was, I mean yeah the new Sam doesn't sound as good as the old one but he still did a good job. And the gameplay is a big step up from Conviction. Oh and here's icing on the cake for those that are still on the fence, the game is on sale right now, you can buy it new at gamestop for $20. Best $20 I've ever spent.
Really Joe, really... Grand Theft Auto V. I will not lie the story was amazing but Rockstar never changed or added anything to the story which was the only good part out of the whole fucking game. Now this may be super long but GTA Online was absolutely a complete fucking failure, and its not even fun. Here's everything wrong with GTA Online. 1: The community- The community is full of utter fucking douche bags rolling around in tanks acting like they're black when in reality they're white and 80% of the people on there are 11 years old or younger, what does rockstar have to say to this? Its America, in america anyone can buy anything. 2: The Amount of Money and RP you earn- When ever the game came out it was the best game i have ever played in my whole entire life, hell i no lifed the shit out of it to get the 400k apartment. But then there was the money glitch which everyone knew was coming, and the RP glitch. So what did rockstar do to get rid of it? They patched it and sense they knew everyone did the glitch (in reality a lot of people didn't) they made it so now no one barely gets any money or RP from games anymore. Now I've been stuck on level 80 the past month. 3: The Hackers, The Glitchers, And the Cheaters- Admit it everyone who has played GTA had to do a glitch, don't lie replying to me saying you didn't cause in reality you did. Whether it'd be a money glitch or a flying glitch, you did it. I have but i didn't do any money glitch's. Lets get to the point, glitchers have ruined the game completely, not the ones doing a glitch where you float with the bikes, its the faggots who thought it was cool to do the money glitch and rp glitch, which led to the low amount of earning's from missions. The cheaters are the immature children who thinks its cool to run around in a tank shooting everyone and everything. The hackers are the ones who thought it was cool to give 2,000,000,000 dollars to someone they don't even know and have 11/12 of their money get removed from the update and now people are complaining like 10 year old's that they should be able to keep their money even though they weren't even supposed to have it or get it in the first place. Also hackers are in public match's invincible and shooting RPG's fast as shit. 4: The cheater pool (and passive mode)- Okay so i was playing the game when i was walking outside to see some player run me over so i died respawned and kept getting ran over before i could shoot him, so once i died again i went in passive mode, and i didn't really use passive mode a lot so i didn't know that they could still kill you, and again he kept running me over, i got pissed so i took off passive and blew up his car in self defense, guess what, i got thrown into the cheater pool, which had no common sense what so ever because i had only blown up 1 car which was of course had to do with passive mode failing again; i was driving in passive mode to go shopping and this kid shot me in the car while i had passive on. So i went to attack him cause he was driving back, and of course i go the warning. That is sad, even worse passive is such a fucking failure. 5: Everything is overpriced!!- In GTA V story the things you purchased such as colors for your cars were usually the same price, in Online everything that looks good or is a high level color is sometimes 23,000 dollars, some one please explain to me that, and now that like i said everyone's money was set back now its completely over the horse shit top priced. There's a lot more from where this came from but there's the big problems with GTA Online, now if you're a GTA fanboy and GTA V is first on your list you my friend can kiss my ass now for i just gave you 5 long ass reasons to hate GTA.
My top 4 Games of 2013 4. Bioshock infinite 3. Saints Row 4 2. GTA 5 1. Assassins Creed 4 and Looking forward playing Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon even i can ^_^
"Make a hero into a bad guy", on that Bioshock Infinite note, I remember in the first storytelling of the basic game, the writer said that the Vox Populi were fucked up people who did no longer care about equal rights but just wanted to make the oppressed (the irish and coloured) rulers. Basically, they're the rebellion, but in a "war" neither side is right.
Exactly! Both sides had their own propaganda, and the player was encouraged to accept the Vox Populi's. I know while playing it, there always seemed to be something a little off with Daisy.
About the thing with Daisy, I think the plot twist (which I really did see coming) was not to tear her down so much as establish that you can't trust anyone in the game. Booker and Elizabeth can't rely on anyone but each other, and you as the player can only rely on them. Daisy's "turn" was to show that she HATED white people. Not that that's bad, they treated her and others like her like garbage. It shows that her hatred (which grew through years of labor, and then being surrounded be radicals to kindle the flames even more), when given the power she gained with the Vox, drove her crazy. She was power crazy, vengeful and blood hungry, but kept in in check until she was given all her power and then it was unleashed. And I think she and Comstock were Infinite's Fontaine and Ryan. Daisy is a symbol of the lower people who aren't rich and/or gifted and smart, is at first good but turns. Comstock is bad and sends men after you because he knows exactly who you are and what your purpose is.
I dunno, Joe, I would consider Injustice to be one of the best fighting games in the past five years. Especially when you consider that it's the first of its kind. Whereas other fighting games are usually sequels.
Instead of being a finished game it has muddy textures, terrible achievements, and hardly any characters to choose from. And if you want more characters you have to wait till they come out and then buy them. Microsoft just rolled this out as an excuse to say they have plenty of launch titles. So don't say I'm assuming things when they are the truth. Also please learn to spell.
My list: 10. The Stanley Parable 09. Assassin's Creed IV 08. Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch 07. Tearaway 06. Rayman Legends 05. Tomb Raider 04. Super Mario 3D World 03. Bioshock Infinite 02. Grand Theft Auto V 01. The Last of Us
He was a Microsoft and PC guy before November, he never really got into why he never got a PS3. But it is assumed he is a fanboy, but I think it's more because most of the games were multiplatform and he just chose the cheaper system.
TheTrueMoegitto Xbox has always been better in quality than that of Sony; sure Sony has some fun game titles and neat features but overall if I and many others were to choose a system I am sure console wise it'd be the Xbox One or even 360 and than of course windows over Sony. Not to mention the Playstation doesn't really have many exclusives it's very multiplatform with it's titles and it's more so becoming that non-stop hardly giving me a reason to even want a PS3 or PS4 now.
I don't want to get into a console war argument but the Playstation brand out does the Xbox brand in highly regarded exclusives by three times the amount. That isn't fanboyism but just fact, check the wikis :) Both consoles sold incredibly well, which means that whoever you are you obviously got what console you wanted. In the end it is about what you enjoy the most not what you want to win the most. Nothing good comes of one console winning and another losing. We need these consoles for the industry to thrive. Food for thought.
He said specific games not the system, if he ever does a video game system review not comparing others but a review than maybe I could say better thing's but I never hear good thing's about the Playstation except those who only play the playstation in which case there fan boys so they have no say.
ambiguouscondition that's why i watch him. But on a side note though, i kind of feel sorry for Bioshock infinite, i believe they were actually trying to deliver something huge, but couldn't find the resources for it. The combat is just shooting, there's hardly any strategy or oportunity to try something new, there's no stealth, and the vigors have no reason to exist, not to mention that though they are explained, there is no way they can exist without little sisters.
My list of favorite games: 10 Mortal Kombat: Armageddon 9 Minecraft 8 Fistful Of Frags 7 RaZe 3 6 RaZe 5 Medal Of Honor: Vanguard 4 All of the Ratchet & Clanks 3 Ultimate Alliance 2 Pokemon Black 2, HeartGold, SoulSilver, and White 1 Shadowgun: Deadzone
That is exactly what I tought, before I played the game. After actually played it, and finishing it, my biggest problem with it was that it ended... :/ SR4 is my favourite SR right after SR2.
Kingsley Roden Being better than SR: 3 isn't very praise worthy. I stopped playing after 3, because itkilled what 1 and 2 had brought to me: a suitable substitute for GTA while I wait for 5. Notice something else? they pumped out three of the damn things before rockstar could properly finish one.
Booker had only just arrived in Columbia and had talked to Daisy Fitzroy a handful of times and met her only once. So for all the player knows, she is the type of "freedom fighter" that wouldn't think twice about killing a child if she thought it helped her cause. She could have been the biggest villain in the entire game from the beginning and we wouldn't have known. Now, "would you kindly" stop bagging Bioshock Infinite over making a terrorist a villain.
Gouhllit So Elizabeth is a cowardly murderer for killing somebody that is about to murder a defenseless child. Remember that if ever there's a psycho with a gun to your child's head and the cops show up to take him down. Be sure to tell them not to shoot the gunman as that would be the act of a cowardly murderer.
Maybe you're right with the whole Daisy thing, but you also have to look at history, in every revolution the rebels had good ideals but ended up screwing it up too. For example the Russian revolution, in which the workers wanted better conditions and maybe some followers of Lenin had good ideals but communism ended up being an oppressive, totalitarian government. It's in all of history.
1. The Last of Us 2. Ni No Kuni 3. Dragon's Crown 4. Dragons Dogma: Dark Arisen 5. Fire Emblem Awakening 6. Metal Gear Rising Revengeance 7. Bioshock Infinite 8. Tomb Raider 9. Kingdom Hearts 1.5 remix 10. europa universalis 4
Ah, and if you noticed, I barely have any shooters AngryJoeShow . It's not that I hate, just not compatible with it. My favorite shooter was probably Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Other than that, not into shooters. Into games that are like Dark souls and Shadow of the Colossus. Also RPG's with plot that takes you in, subtle like Dark Souls or straight forward like Dragon's Crown. However I do have a heart of strategy games, However I think Crusader Kings 2 came out in 2012. I had that over EU, but EU is still good.
The last of us is good, and would make this list, but I wouldn't say its a must play game. One of the better games I played, but by the end I disliked all the characters and the linearity really showed
10. Papers Please 9. Tomb Raider 8. Assassin's Creed 4 7. Dead Rising 3 6. Metro Last Light 5. Bioshock Infinite 4. Pokemon X 3. GTA V 2. The Last of Us 1. Fire Emblem
Is it me of has Ubisoft become a lot more caring towards their fanbase this year? I mean they released games like Call of Juarez Gunslinger, AC4, Splinter cell Blacklist, Far cry blood dragon, South Park stick of truth and not to mention the upcoming watch dogs.
They seem to be making some great strides recently. Hopefully, this stride will continue as more next-gen games are released from them. Such as Tom Clancy's The Division.
Zachary Comstock = Conservatism Daisy Fitzroy = Communism Jeremiah Fink = Corporatism Andrew Ryan = Libertarianism The reason I love Bioshock stories is that the writers know how to integrate, exaggerate, and dramatize the political systems of our days into the characters. The storyline of Fitzroy, in which she started with a good idea and gone mad as she climbed to the mountain top, couldn't be better. Fitzroy is a mirror character of Stalin and Mao and the color of Vox Populi is the color of communism which is red.
RoninS636 There wasn't much about Fontaine/Atlas regarding to his character development and believes, but from what was presented, he was nothing more than Anti - Andrew Ryan. Although Bioshock 2 was a good game, it lacked in story. It wasn't clear on what Sofia Lamb believed and why her believes were important, so she was "lifeless." Just opinions.
I found it hard to play Dota 2 after I was already used to LoL, it was hard to adapt and the environment of Dota 2 was weird to me since the top lane was so dark I couldn't really see anything. Also the whole thing about the hidden shop was stupid, I wanna buy this? well go over to the jungle and find it. But that was probably the worst I saw in it. But at the same time. I don't see the 'charater' in a Hero named anti-mage rather than something epic like Talon or Kassadin.
yeah ac4 is the shit man the only game that top's ac4 is the last of us. I only agree on 2 thing's with joe on my top 10 ac4 at number 2 and civilization 5 at number 6 i personally don't agree on saints row 4 being better then tome raider and i believe call of juarez gunslinger should be higher on the list but that's my opinion.
This was definitely one of the BEST years in gaming! I hope for 2016 to be just as great. also,it's great that many, if not most, of these games translate into the next gen consoles!
My top 10: 1. BioShock Infinite 2. Grand Theft Auto V 3. Tomb Raider 4. The Last of Us 5. Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch 6. Infinity Blade III 7. Injustice: Gods Among Us 8. Batman: Arkham Origins 9. Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time 10. The Cave
***** A really damn good one! The story is interesting, the characters are well written and voice-acted, the gameplay is awesome, armor designs unique, everything about it is awesome! The books are good too.
Like I said before, dude: If you praise Saints Row 4 so much, PLAY SAINTS ROW 3 AGAIN and give your self the chance to really immerse yourself in it. SR4 isn't better than SR3. Aside from some tweaks here and there, Saints Row 4 is Saints Row 3 + DLC!!
Yeah, small tweaks, like being able to jump 10 stories, or throwing tanks with your mind, or throwing all your enemies into a black hole, or a completely new and full length story. Small tweaks like that.
Daisy Fitzroy is a great character EXACTLY for the reason she turns out to be bad. It is a very realistic portrayal of a conflict - just because your cause has noble goals it doesn't mean that there aren't some bad people in your ranks. There is evil on both sides in every conflict ever fought. After all, world isn't a cartoon populated by good guys and bad guys. And like portrayed in Bioshock, anyone can be racist - yes, even a black person.
I disagree with basically everything you said about Bioshock Infinite. So much so that I don't even want to type it all out. Still a fun list, I enjoyed it.
TLOU is a masterpiece indeed. Unfortunately I play on PC only so I couldn't enjoy it but even merely watching the playthrough was an amazing experience. The story, the emotions everything is just a class apart. I wish naughty dog was an independent developer. Bravo to them!!
Everyone knows the top 3 games in 2013 were : 1. The Last of Us 2. GTA V 3. Bioshock Infinite Those are almost a guaranteed top 3. With Xbox fanboys putting GTA V in front of Last of Us but those are an easy top 3 if you played them.
Boring ass The Last of Us. Fuck that game. Seriously, that game's truly a blasphemy of game design. (not only because it's boring, it has soooooo many issues that nobody sees, because... because it has a good story.)
daspoon456 I concur. Though, Bioshock Infinite was a HUGE piece of shit. TLoU is more overrated with its 200+ GotY awards, but Bioshock Infinite is just... the absolutely shittiest thing. I hate that game with a passion. It's not a "great first-person shooter," as Joe calls it, as its mechanics were too weak. Elizabeth had no real gameplay use. The story was convoluted, flip-floppity, and ended with one of the STUPIDEST, MOST PRETENTIOUS endings to ANYTHING ever. Oh, and then Burial at Sea comes along and completely RUINS Rapture. And they HAD to make BaS canon, of course. -_- Can you tell I'm pissed at Bioshock Infinite?
daspoon456 The Last of Us was extremely cliche. So I'm not sure why it got too much praise. Bioshock was pretentious as fuck, and I never played GTA V.
jackbot1992 Ok what are its, "it has soooooo many issues that nobody sees". Everyone talks shit about this game yet no one explains why its a "bad game". It seems to be like you probably have never even played it before.
The reason I love Bioshock Infinite is that it's the first time since, I think, Knights of the Old Republic that I was actually floored by a twist and this time the twist added a whole new dimension to the game and made me immediately want to play it again. I've played through BI about twenty times now and I always find something new. I love GTA V but Bioshock gave me something that hit me on a personal level that I didn't even know I was looking for
I haven't played too many new games this year, so I've got a Top 5 for you 5:Remember Me 4:Tomb Raider 3:AC4 2:Bioshock Infinite (Only beats AC4 because of AC4's slight repetiveness) 1: The Last of Us
James Honaker I never said that I didn't get my moneys worth. I just think that the whole online thing was over hyped, it's pretty much like RDR's online. Nothing really new to me. Kahlor Quiver Yes they did, but a great online experience should have you coming back for years, not weeks. That's just my opinion.
Well some people just don't enjoy certain things as much as others. He's not saying it was a bad experience necessarily. Just that he personally did not enjoy it past the first few weeks.
Joe has an entirely different taste than I do. He loves shooters, while I can barely stand them. I don't have one single shooter on my top 10 list, and Animal Crossing is my #1. Yet I still subscribe to the guy, and enjoy his videos. Should say something about the quality he brings.
Honestly I'm really pissed off with the way you approached the issue you had with BioShock. I'm not going to go into detail as to why what Joe said was total shit as many others have already said it in the comments but fucking really Joe? Because their a minority in the game the writers aren't allowed to show that there's evil in ALL people, no matter the skin colour. What a load of bullshit.
Maybe he hasn't noticed how radical a lot of these "social justice" movements are nowadays. Seeing some of the shit they do and the way they treat others, they often *actually are* just as bad as the people they're accusing. If *"die cis scum"* isn't hypocrisy, then I don't know what is.
He didn't say that there isn't evil in everyone he mostly bashed about how the writers took the Vox Populi good intentions and did a 180 near the end of the game without warning. If the writers gave us hints of the evil intention of the Vox sooner in the game it wouldn't be a problem, but they used the bullshit alternate reality reason why they're evil
All he has to do is look at the history of popular rebellions of the last 80 years and see that many times the rebel forces end up being as bad or worse than those they overthrew. There many examples of this in Africa alone, let alone the Americas, Asia, and Europe.
agentdrew But there wasn't a 180. The Vox Populi met early in the game and the ones met later are from 2 different timelines. The original had good intentions but the alternate version was under the violent influence of Booker and therefore lost their direction. This is all explained by the story. Just because Joe didn't catch onto it (or maybe just forgot it) doesn't mean it wasn't explained.

My top 10:

9. Papers, Please
8. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag
7. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
6. Tomb Raider
5. Gone Home

Landon Bangerter Infamous second son
Jack Hargreaves black flag is shit
I think Joe was thinking a bit too black-and-white when it came to his problem with BioShock Infinite. The conflict is a lot deeper than just racism.
Is that an intended pun?
Billy Raymond I really hope so.
Billy Raymond Totally unintended, but nevertheless I'm laughing now
Actually there are two puns, the idea that it is *deeper* than racism (racism is skin deep).
FINALLY! Somebody mentions Call of Juarez Gunslinger in a Top 10 list.
Old Western FPS games are freaking fantastic but no developers want to make any. I just wish they'd make more Western games in general.
Such an underrated gem.
*SPOILER WARNING*
On the topic of Bioshock Infinite and the Vox, there's one thing you seemed to miss.

I guess someone still has their panties in a bunch because of the Anita thing, huh?
Aulis Vaara
Oh, and I'm sure you could go on for hours. In fact, I'd wager you could go on for weeks.
I just find it funny that even weeks after his controversy video, you would still have this petty little grudge just because he didn't completely side against someone on a particular issue.
Aulis Vaara
Dunno fella…your first paragraph still gives me the tiniest of hunches that you’re holding a grudge.
Aulis Vaara
Well, if you were truly as objective of a person as you claim to be, you could with a little bit of digging.

+Bigrock412 Actually I have played these games on my ps3(exception: BioShock infinite at my friend's pc) and I found them to be great. As far as outlast is concerned, I don't know about the game since it's available for next gen consoles and pc only.It does look pretty good though.
+Rahul Bhamra Why Assassins creed?
christian martin It was quite good! Not as good as assassin's creed 2 but a strong entry to the series.I enjoyed it very much.
Yay it's so good to see some love for games that are just fun as hell.
Joe...on Bioshock Infinite and the racism...well guess what oppressed minorities can be just as fucking brutal as their oppressors when they rise up in arms.
Which is depicted in the game.
It's hilarious that GTA could have won GOTY 3 years in a row.
2013: Last Gen
2014: Current Gen
2015: PC
+Lucas Hunter GTA is GTA... Being released in 2014 doesn't mean anything. It was the exact same game but with better graphics, pointless little extras and all the free DLC they had been adding the previous year...
Besides... If we're to count with "Remasters" because, let's face it.. That's what GTA V on PS4 and PC is... Then 2014's "goty" would have gone to The Last of Us Remastered.
Which funny enough is most likely the game that Joe would have put in #1 here had he played it back on the PS3. Hence the 10/10 Legendary score on his review.
+TheDezembro I think gta would beat the last of us tbh
LOL
Shame, because SR2 was probably the best sandbox crime game I've ever played.
ddgafd I know how dare them make a *FUN* game, wtf is wrong with them.

Old but is this sarcasm?
He seems to forget they were in parallel universe when you fight the vox populi which was different to the columbia you started from originally
***** what
I'm sorry Joe, but your complaint about Daisy Fitzroy and the Vox Populi is straight-up childish.
I agree 100% on Black Flag being the best in the series, I've played them all and didn't enjoy any of them nearly as much as I have been enjoying Black Flag.
me too, and i also got the platinum trophy for it
if you want to play a good pirate game play: pirates of carribean/sea dogs 2 and age of pirates city of abandoned ships
That's because AC 4 isn't an AC game, it's a pirate game with some shitty assassination missions

ALRIIIIIIIIGHT!!! Before I watch this video, let me first express how happy I am to see you back in action Angry Joe!!! :D

The best "top 10 games list" so far!
obvious troll is obviously trolling, but yeah, ride to hell, kickass!! xD
Joes gripe about Bioshock Infinite isn't really much of anything, the whole Daisy thing is meant to show that anyone can be a villain if pushed, it's foreshadowing for the ending twist..
To quote Harvey Dent:
"You either die a Hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the Villain."
It takes a strong person to show that sort of enthusiasm despite all the shit he's dealing with. c:
Helkarof
Oh, most definitely.

Joe, I cannot stop laughing at the intro to #9! I have been a little depressed lately and this really picked me up. Thanks, man! Keep doing what you do!
I hope you’re feeling better 6 years later!
It should be a crime to be a game reviewer that hasn't played TLoU. And putting SR4 above Metro and Tomb Raider was also quite insulting. Other than that, a good video.
It's his opinion, not yours. Not to mention that it's kind of hard to review a game for a platform that you don't own.
I honestly thought that BF4 was pretty good.
D3ATHGOOSE I actually agree with you. Elder Scrolls is good, and I would hate to see that go. It too, is an RPG
Watching all the classics before this year's list , thanks joe for every year's end " cherry on top " and making it more enjoyable 🙏🤝❤
In 2012-2013 there was an explosion of really great indie games (i could even say that a lot of them are better than half of your bests list)
Cheers mate! Love the show!
I still love The Last of Us more than any other game this year! Such an amazing game, in my opinion.
Have you Played GTA5? Sure Last of us was a God-like game, however GTA was the Definition of Amazing games. In my Opinion.
***** Lol God-like sounds higher tier than amazing does.
Well In that case GTA was 9001 on a scale of 1-10
***** I've played over 50 hours of it. But I still love Last of Us more.
But The real question is... Did you have Bros with you?
My Top 10 Games of 2013:

1. The Last of Us
Yes
it was a good year, I didn't rate the last of us as highly as many do though. but it is in my top 10
Well The Last Of Us is game of the year for me but there's no point arguing because you've never played it.
TLoU is my game of the year too. It's just a masterpiece. Hope a sequel is on its way.
darkdestiny9106 AmitC1612
just why joe didn't play it, i mean a ps3 is nothing that he can't afford and xbox fucked him so much up with this kinect, drm always on bullshit, he could have switched the sides, but no... in 'murica everybody playes xbox regardless its bullshit or not...
darkdestiny9106 they said that theyre "throwing around ideas" about a sequel
i agree the last of us was a work of art
darkdestiny9106 I'm actually looking forward to Left Behind, a sequel may even ruin the trademark, but I'll go with whatever Naughty Dog has in mind.
This is kinda funny since burial at sea episode two just came out, and explained the Daisy problem a lot different but still good interpretation.
1. The Last of Us
2. Tomb Raider
3.Grand Theft Auto V
4.Bioshck Infinite
5. Injustice: Gods Among Us
9:10 Joe, Daisy Fitzroy is not a nice person, nor is she a particularly good one.
Bioshock was a game that made you think and make your own conclusions but Joe would rather see a game that tries to shovel down your throat some narrowminded ideology like most of Hollywood does these days.
halfhalo33 Perfectly fine with Bioshock: Infinite's placement on this list, but that's not the point. Point is, Joe's got Daisy Fitzroy wrong.
you are quite right
"She's a warning, and a damn well-written one too."
Well, apparently not, since Joe didn't see the warning.
Joe: *mentions saints row 4* *but not the FRIKING DUBSTEP GUN*
that gun made my day. and made me interested in everything dubstep btw.

You are a GOD!
I love you....
The only game i can think to add to this (Besides The last of us of course) is Rayman: Legends. That game was so freaking fun! If you enjoy video games you'll enjoy that game.
1. The Last of us.
2. GTA V.
3. Bioshock infinite.
4. Saint Row IV.
5. Rayman Legends.
6. Tomb Raider
7. Metro: Last light.
8. Dead island: Riptide
9. God of war: Ascension
10. Call of Duty: Ghosts
Didn't get to play AC: 4 or The new Batman yet.
Just forgot about Ratchet & Clank: Into the nexus. I'd put that in there over call of duty. Just couldn't think of any other games i had played at the time.
Wait
CoD Ghost? Really?
Even though you weren't able to review The Last of Us for 2013, there's nothing wrong with doing a late review.
he doesn't have a ps3
Yeah.. I'm aware buddy. lol. I hope he might take the time to get one, not guaranteeing it but it'd be pretty cool.
Skyler Terven dont forget about playstation now :D he can play it there
I don't think they were forcing you to choose sides at all in Bioshock.
My favorite games of all time are
10:Star Wars Bounty Hunter
9:Dragon age Inquisition
8:Metro 2033
7:Civilization 5 BNW
6:Far Cry 3
5:Metro Last Light
4:Borderlands 2
3:Super Smash Brothers: Melee
2:Star Wars Battlefront 2
1:The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
HM:Batman Arkham City, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, SWTOR, Uncharted 2
actually switch far cry and borderlands 2
I see SWTOR in the HMs. YAAAAAY :D
yeah I played that game a lot and it was good
As have I. Though, some of the recent updates have discouraged me, (for example the nerfing of my most played class--Sith Marauder.)
true and the now way op sorcerer
I am so proud that I chose PS3 over XBox360 because the best game 2013 is:
Last of Us
Damn Splinter Cell Blacklist didn't make the cut? Joe you need to check that game out if you haven't already.
It's a good game, but one of the ten best? Top 20, maybe.
Seconded, great stealth game.
Oh right I forgot about that. I loved the shit out of the game, the story sucked ass but the gameplay was incredibly fun. Especially in coop.
I'm more inclined to give it a try now.
ltrgman
I know exactly what you mean, I was in the same boat and pissed that Ironside wasn't Sam anymore, but after I played it I realized what a mistake that was, I mean yeah the new Sam doesn't sound as good as the old one but he still did a good job.
Bitch, watch your spoilers.
Goldendriger How the hell are these spoilers..
Raze Fan Fun? My ass.
I agree with you on everything, but the story was good, not amazing. There were too many plot holes, it just ruined it for me.
Tl;dr, short version: You're wrong, now leave
My top 4 Games of 2013
4. Bioshock infinite
3. Saints Row 4
2. GTA 5
1. Assassins Creed 4
and Looking forward playing Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon even i can ^_^
The Vox Popule are like the BLM
They are evil
"Make a hero into a bad guy", on that Bioshock Infinite note, I remember in the first storytelling of the basic game, the writer said that the Vox Populi were fucked up people who did no longer care about equal rights but just wanted to make the oppressed (the irish and coloured) rulers.
Basically, they're the rebellion, but in a "war" neither side is right.
Exactly! Both sides had their own propaganda, and the player was encouraged to accept the Vox Populi's. I know while playing it, there always seemed to be something a little off with Daisy.
I agree I felt that Daisy started with good intentions and then lost her way in the process.. Not that uncommon in real world.
Marvel VS Capcom was OK and that came out a few years earlier.
Killer instinct is an unfinished piece of shit.
It's not excatly the first of it's kind. It's basicaly mortal kombat vs DC without the mortal kombat.
rukis1bitchz No Injustice gameplay is pretty different than mk vs dc , I would say that Injustice is like Mk9 with coated as DC .
My list:
10. The Stanley Parable
09. Assassin's Creed IV

07. Tearaway

*Spits out drink in shock* HE DIDN'T PLAY THE LAST OF US?! :O
He was a Microsoft and PC guy before November, he never really got into why he never got a PS3. But it is assumed he is a fanboy, but I think it's more because most of the games were multiplatform and he just chose the cheaper system.
TheTrueMoegitto
Xbox has always been better in quality than that of Sony; sure Sony has some fun game titles and neat features but overall if I and many others were to choose a system I am sure console wise it'd be the Xbox One or even 360 and than of course windows over Sony.
But... he did say it was worth getting on the list :) So it still counts :P
He said specific games not the system, if he ever does a video game system review not comparing others but a review than maybe I could say better thing's but I never hear good thing's about the Playstation except those who only play the playstation in which case there fan boys so they have no say.
Nice, you just gave the fucking plot to Bioshock away without a fucking spoiler warning, thanks.
FINALLY!!!! SOMEONE WHO NOTICED THAT BIOSHOCK INFINITE ISN'T THE FUCKING BEAM OF SUNSHINE FROM CHRIST HIMSELF!!!
it was strange
Joe is the only reviewer that is true to the truth, even if a game is good he gives out the flaws with them
ambiguouscondition i have to agree to some point but there are moments when he's a real fanboy...
ambiguouscondition that's why i watch him.
KRIMZONMEKANISM
not to mention the sky rails ending up being a dissapointment compared to the E3 trailers.
My list of favorite games:
10 Mortal Kombat: Armageddon
9 Minecraft
8 Fistful Of Frags
7 RaZe 3
6 RaZe
5 Medal Of Honor: Vanguard
4 All of the Ratchet & Clanks
3 Ultimate Alliance
2 Pokemon Black 2, HeartGold, SoulSilver, and White
1 Shadowgun: Deadzone
Shadowgun is a shitty f2p mobile gears of war ripoff that they just had to port to PC/Mac for a cash grab.
Felix Wilson Ha! I was talking about Deadzone, not the single-player. Deadzone is free.
I've played deadzone. It's absolute shit.
Felix Wilson No.
Felix Wilson My opinion, go away if you don't like it.
You kidding me?Saints Row 4?That game was copy and pasted at full price, pretty sure it's gonna turn into Cod soon.
saints row 4 owned fun-wise
primeyuri no the only thing it did was suck
Its better than saints row 3, well the story is maybe the gameplay is similar but the story is very good
That is exactly what I tought, before I played the game. After actually played it, and finishing it, my biggest problem with it was that it ended... :/
SR4 is my favourite SR right after SR2.
Kingsley Roden
Being better than SR: 3 isn't very praise worthy.
Gouhllit
So Elizabeth is a cowardly murderer for killing somebody that is about to murder a defenseless child.
1) The Last of Us
2) Bioshock Infinite
3) GTA 5
4) Assassin's Creed Black Flag
5) Tomb Raider

Ah, and if you noticed, I barely have any shooters AngryJoeShow . It's not that I hate, just not compatible with it. My favorite shooter was probably Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Other than that, not into shooters.
Into games that are like Dark souls and Shadow of the Colossus. Also RPG's with plot that takes you in, subtle like Dark Souls or straight forward like Dragon's Crown. However I do have a heart of strategy games, However I think Crusader Kings 2 came out in 2012. I had that over EU, but EU is still good.
It really is a huge shame Joe hasn't played Last Of Us, It would have been very interesting to see if it would have been #1 or #2.
***** so you people finished the god damn game and don't know that those weren't zombies? wow..
Captain Yaser much amaze. very runners. such clickers
Though I agree with you, I feel the game was a little short to make it any higher then top 5. Also not much replay value.
The last of us is good, and would make this list, but I wouldn't say its a must play game. One of the better games I played, but by the end I disliked all the characters and the linearity really showed
Alex B i personally think Tomb raider was better than the last of us, it is just my opinion, and it's such an underrated game
I wonder if Joe's played the _Burial at Sea_ DLC by now...
Pee pee poo pee oopsie I did a stinky haha😳

Cool list! Shame you didn't have a PS3 to play The Last of Us, no matter the gamer it really should be experienced by everyone :)
Nope. THEY SCREWED UP RAYMAN!!!
***** What are you talking about, Rayman was awesome.
Yeah, they are doing better than before, they were really shafting people, especially PC players with shit DRM.
They seem to be making some great strides recently. Hopefully, this stride will continue as more next-gen games are released from them. Such as Tom Clancy's The Division.
Zachary Comstock = Conservatism
Daisy Fitzroy = Communism
Jeremiah Fink = Corporatism
Andrew Ryan = Libertarianism
The reason I love Bioshock stories is that the writers know how to integrate, exaggerate, and dramatize the political systems of our days into the characters. The storyline of Fitzroy, in which she started with a good idea and gone mad as she climbed to the mountain top, couldn't be better. Fitzroy is a mirror character of Stalin and Mao and the color of Vox Populi is the color of communism which is red.
Well said
What about Fontaine/Atlas and Sofia Lamb?
RoninS636
There wasn't much about Fontaine/Atlas regarding to his character development and believes, but from what was presented, he was nothing more than Anti - Andrew Ryan. Although Bioshock 2 was a good game, it lacked in story. It wasn't clear on what Sofia Lamb believed and why her believes were important, so she was "lifeless." Just opinions.
I don't mean to be smartalecky, but hasn't libertarianism been used to refer to anarchism since the 17th century? I believe you mean neoliberalism.
Wow that really effectively exemplifies your lack of knowledge on what Conservatism, Communism, Corporatism and Libertarianism is
The lack of DOTA 2 on this list disturbs me...
plis, league of legends
xaxaxaxaxaxa
Nelson Trong I have never played LoL (yet) but I will
I found it hard to play Dota 2 after I was already used to LoL, it was hard to adapt and the environment of Dota 2 was weird to me since the top lane was so dark I couldn't really see anything. Also the whole thing about the hidden shop was stupid, I wanna buy this? well go over to the jungle and find it. But that was probably the worst I saw in it. But at the same time. I don't see the 'charater' in a Hero named anti-mage rather than something epic like Talon or Kassadin.
AC4 number 2! Hell yeah!
yeah ac4 is the shit man the only game that top's ac4 is the last of us. I only agree on 2 thing's with joe on my top 10 ac4 at number 2 and civilization 5 at number 6 i personally don't agree on saints row 4 being better then tome raider and i believe call of juarez gunslinger should be higher on the list but that's my opinion.
saints row 4 should not be on here
It's his personal list, and Saints Row 4 was the game that made him had more fun than probably any other game. So yeah, it deserves to be here.
You ever play it? It is amazingly fun.
This was definitely one of the BEST years in gaming! I hope for 2016 to be just as great. also,it's great that many, if not most, of these games translate into the next gen consoles!
My top 10:
1. BioShock Infinite
2. Grand Theft Auto V
3. Tomb Raider
4. The Last of Us
5. Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch
6. Infinity Blade III
7. Injustice: Gods Among Us
8. Batman: Arkham Origins
9. Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time
10. The Cave
PvZ? Im sure bf4 is better lol
I haven't played Battlefield 4.
The last of us!!!!!!
Jack Shrout It's not worth your time.
***** A really damn good one! The story is interesting, the characters are well written and voice-acted, the gameplay is awesome, armor designs unique, everything about it is awesome! The books are good too.
Bioshock Infinite was crap. What's the point of having a female character in a game if she's fully clothed through the entire thing? 0/10
Hahaha lol
Like I said before, dude: If you praise Saints Row 4 so much, PLAY SAINTS ROW 3 AGAIN and give your self the chance to really immerse yourself in it. SR4 isn't better than SR3. Aside from some tweaks here and there, Saints Row 4 is Saints Row 3 + DLC!!
Yeah, small tweaks, like being able to jump 10 stories, or throwing tanks with your mind, or throwing all your enemies into a black hole, or a completely new and full length story. Small tweaks like that.
Jake McIntyre
Yeah. Some developers call that DLC.
He compared SR3 to SR2 which is the best one yet. That is why he said it sucked
Glad to see Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon here !
Funny thing is that Daisy's threatening of Fink's child was explained in Burial of Sea episode 2, you should check that out.
My top 5
5: Far Cry: Blood Dragon
4:Bioshock Infinite
3: Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag
2: GTA V
1: The Last of Us (My favorite game of all time.)
TLOU is a masterpiece indeed. Unfortunately I play on PC only so I couldn't enjoy it but even merely watching the playthrough was an amazing experience. The story, the emotions everything is just a class apart. I wish naughty dog was an independent developer. Bravo to them!!
Everyone knows the top 3 games in 2013 were :
1. The Last of Us
2. GTA V
3. Bioshock Infinite
Those are almost a guaranteed top 3. With Xbox fanboys putting GTA V in front of Last of Us but those are an easy top 3 if you played them.
So the only way you can like GTA 5 is if you are an Xbox fanboy..........k.
Can you tell I'm pissed at Bioshock Infinite?
daspoon456 The Last of Us was extremely cliche.
Top 5 of the Year:
5. Tomb Raider
4. Assassin's Creed IV
3. The Last of Us
2. Grand Theft Auto V
1. Bioshock Infinite
The reason I love Bioshock Infinite is that it's the first time since, I think, Knights of the Old Republic that I was actually floored by a twist and this time the twist added a whole new dimension to the game and made me immediately want to play it again. I've played through BI about twenty times now and I always find something new. I love GTA V but Bioshock gave me something that hit me on a personal level that I didn't even know I was looking for
I haven't played too many new games this year, so I've got a Top 5 for you
5:Remember Me
4:Tomb Raider
3:AC4
2:Bioshock Infinite (Only beats AC4 because of AC4's slight repetiveness)
1: The Last of Us
If you play through Burial at Sea, it actually explains Fitzroy's intentions. It improves her character even more.
Imo, GTA online got pretty boring after a few weeks. However, I do respect R* for giving everything they've added to the game so far for free.
It's a b2p game, wtf do you expect? You are crazy if you don't think you got you $60 worth from that game!
I don't find it boring in fact I'm still playing it to this day.
***** and those first few weeks didn't count?
Should say something about the quality he brings.
........Speachless
Why am I not surprised? GTAV at number 1? That soul and life sucking game is damn good. The day it came out, my hood got turned into a ghost town.
If the writers gave us hints of the evil intention of the Vox
sooner in the game it wouldn't be a problem, but they used the bullshit alternate reality reason why they're evil
All he has to do is look at the history of popular rebellions of the last 80 years and see that many times the rebel forces end up being as bad or worse than those they overthrew. There many examples of this in Africa alone, let alone the Americas, Asia, and Europe.
