This channel has been a boon for people working in spreadsheets on daily basis to improve their skills and reduce a hell lot of time. So much informative each and every video is. Thanks for sharing such informative knowledge!
Another great tutorial, Leila. I have never felt that watching your training materials were a waste of my time. For as many years as I've been teaching and using Excel, you always teach me something new.
It is frustrating to watch Leila's excel video without having learned anything new, it has taken me years to learn all these things and you summerized it in 10 minutes, that's the genius about you by the way...
Did face the printing problem last week, I was able to get it printed with some adjustments but didn't know there's more to it. Thanks again. You actually know what practical problems one could have while using excel. Experience speaks! 😊👏
I was talking to one of my friend that you may work on many fancy BI tools but excel is and will remain misterious as everyday we learn new things out of it. Thanks To Leila Gharani unlocking this for us. Many thanks👍
5:35 don't forget that it's going to include the entire cell even if it only contains a tiny bit of spill-over. so make sure your last cells on the bottom and right are tight to, in this case, the graph. also, if you're printing only text and you want it to be centered correctly, you need to have the cell's text alignment also set as centered vertically and horizontally. because excel is only trying to center the cell itself when you print.
Thanks! This fixed my problem of windows scaling that affect how a properly formatted excel misaligned when windows scaling no longer 100% on other PC! By using Print Area and Scale to Fit Width & Height to fix the issue.
Thanks for this. I couldn't figure out how to get my document centered. You showed me that there is a horizontal center option in margins, which I missed, and it fixed it.
Thanks for another excellent video!! 1. I changed my settings to default to View > Page Layout so I’m always formatting my sheets for printing. 2. I think that it is worth noting that if you print to multiple devices, the print area may be different. Printers have slightly different printable areas and OneNote (I send sheets to OneNote on occasion) is usually quite a bit different than a standard printer. It is good to be mindful of the output your Excel Workbook is set to.
These are all great ideas when you can adjust each report on a case-by-case basis. I had to create an Excel macro to automatically generate reports with data sets and tables that would vary in size. When I tried to automate the formatting and page breaks in Excel it was a nightmare. Also, when different people ran it from different computers hooked to different printers the workbook got corrupted and became very slow to load and run. I think this had to do with having it adjust to different printers. I instead offloaded the formatting to an MS Word macro. That was a still a nightmare, especially with making sure the tables broke across pages in a neat and logical way, but at least my Excel workbook no longer got corrupted and poor performing.
Leila, I'm a fan of your! On top of your great explanation, I would point out that if you drag the page breaks in order to fit more content (as you did with the two graphics in the second page) it would zoom out the content. So if you do that vertically, it also shrink horizontally and will no longer cover the width of the page.
Leila, I do like the way you present your video. I do learn a lot of tricks from your videos and want to thank you! I have a little challenge that I can't figure out. I need to print, it's a single separate sheet, the copy number from a variable (or a cell value). Copy 1 of 25, copy 2 of 25 and so on. Sorry for my english, I'm a french canadian from Montreal in Quebec, Canada. Hope you can help me! (By the way my late father was born in Linz, Austria)😉
I'm surprised you didn't touch on the page layout view. If i'm printing i find it much easier to be in that view and make the adjustments there to how things will look when i print them. You can make many of the adjustments from that view and you get a direct page view of how things will print without having to go back and forth between the sheet and the print preview screen.
True - that's a good one. We cover that inside the course when we talk about adding headers and footers and I think in the follow up video we have on repeating table header coming out in 2 weeks as well....
This is one of the situations when really no one appreciates that you made the effort to optimize report printing, yet if you don’t there will be rolling eyes. I use the Set Print Area to set non continuous ranges to print, each range selection is automatically it’s own page. I find this easier to control than ‘moody’ page breaks. To do so after your initial selection of the range, select the additional range, Page Layout>Print Area>Add to Print Area
Having problem in a sheet having free forms drawn in separate cells. The free forms seems to jump from its place while selecting print preview. Please make a video on that. Also lessons on how to adjust page breaks while printing sheets will be helpful.
Very helpful tips! Would you make video about putting color in excel? I mean, in table header and its values. What we should do and dont when mix match color to make it more comfy to read
Madam you are great teacher for all of us. I am learning a lot of information from you. I have a question about printing ... I have a data in Column A only . but it is more then 10000 rows.. I want to print it all but when i print. it will come one colum only and balance 80% page will be empty. I want when its print like zigzap but in vertically. like column, i can say when it print on page it should come like colum wise.. i hope you understand my means. if you give me i can send you a small diagrame. it is will be easy for you to understand. TIA
Hi Leila , i learned a lot from you. I have a doubt , how to increase font size of specific area in excel print. For example in your sheet how to increase font size of first table without change second table.
Hey, I was expecting the other important feature: how to put the fixed headings onto all of the pages: PAGE LAYOUT > Printing addresses > top sequent lines > full of more options!
Hi Leela, I am loving the channel and have found a lot of your advice very useful. Unfortunately in this case Microsoft has once again left the Excel for Mac users hanging. On the Mac we don't get print preview or the option to go to Page Setup from the Print option in the file menu. I have only recently had to move to a Mac (a long time PC user) and Microsoft have done a nice job of missing out some important Excel functions in the Mac version - for no reason as far as I can tell. Not available on Mac - Forms, Xlookup - Print Preview etc. I'll keep enjoying your channel anyway and hope that one day Microsoft will give us Mac users (paying our full price yearly subscription) the full windows version of Excel
Hi Leila, this was a good overview of the Excel print features. Question: I'm rebuilding a complicated Excel file at work to automate some of the functions. This file is a multi tab file so rebuilding it was the best option. Whoever made the original file was able to create dynamic "print areas" meaning that the page auto adjust the print area depending on the number of rows with data. Can you make a video showing how this is done or point me in the right direction? Thanks!
I JUST taught these tips to a guy in my office 2 days ago! He had a chuckle watching this w me. question though: with the sheet you had it would have looked better w the 1st page in portrait and 2nd landscape; is it possible to determine orientation page by page?
Glad you guys liked the video :) Regarding your question, page orientation is a worksheet property. Meaning all pages printed from the same worksheet will have the same orientation.
Thank you for this video I just have a question I’m trying to print my worksheet out but how do I get rid of the letters on top and the numbers on the side??
Great tut! I was trying to print to PDF with a full bleed and no matter what setting and margins set there is always a strip of white at the bottom and right side... Help! haha
Hi Amazin am a great admirer of your videos which gives immnese help in managing basic functions in excel. Can you make a video on time excel chartsThanks
Here's a problem I haven't been able to figure out. Can you use a slicer to change the row source for a pivot table/chart? In other words, being able to switch the grouped rows from using column B to column C, and so forth.
sometimes i want to print a full sheet placard with just a few words in a very large font. but when i do that, the text does not print. the print preview looks fine. sometimes i might have an image and the large text, but only the image prints. it does this in excel and in word. the only way i can get it to print correctly is to print to pdf and then print the pdf.
Firstly , Love your work Leila and find your videos absolutely fantastic. I've got a problem to solve in excel and haven't found a solution on the internet yet and was wondering if you could help.. perhaps an idea for your next video . I've got a model with 2 output sheets and these 2 sheets consists of 18 print formatted pages. Based on inputs by users , some of the pages may be blank , so i'm looking for a way to print only selected pages based on users input. just like you can in MS word or powerpoint..any guidance would be much appreciated.
