Look, almost everybody could afford to lose a pound or two, or do all sorts of things. But you can't put off concealed carry until you're perfect. You can't put off using your holster and you certainly can't put off protecting yourself or your loved ones.
It's not like you can tell an armed robber "can you wait until I've worked off last Sunday's pizza?"
So how do you make your concealed carry holster, or any holster, work if you've got a bit more around the midsection?
Holster positioning is crucial for best results, as you have to balance comfort, concealability and also fast access to the pistol, as well as being able to efficiently draw the gun and get it into action.
Since the holster is going to be pressed against your side, it has to be comfortable to carry with as well, whether it's a holster for range training only or your EDC CCW holster.

@@mathewherndon3407 Howdy Mathew, First, I had to find the right piece. Glock 27 turned out to be far to heavy. Finally settled on Ruger LCP 2. 380 may not be on the FBIs list of approved calibers, but then First Rule of a gun fight is to HAVE A GUN. The lcp is definitely on me almost all day. That and other compact pistols were the result of the 1994 high cap ban. Gun grabbers always forget about unintended consequences of their laws and the ingenuity of the gun community. When limited to 10 rounds, companies built the smallest possible pistol.
So I occasionally still carry with Rugers included pocket holster (smart move Ruger). But today I primarily carry the Alien Gear shape shift OWB paddle holster under a long untucked shirt. (A huge benefit of living in a Constitutional Carry state is I choose how to carry. AZ actually wants responsibly armed citizens, that helps. The key for me is drawstring on my shorts drawn tight as it can be (i hate belts). Then i place the paddle at the 2 o clock position on my hip with holster canted towards my but. This made it much more secure and comfortable in and out of my truck.
I also use the shape shift system to chest carry on my back pack with the back pack carry expansion pack on my daily hike (again 95% of the people I encounter on the trails don’t even look at me twice when I’m open carrying but this is Arizona).
Finally I am awaiting a Kydex neck holster. An unconventional method but it was good enough for Navy Seals for last ditch use with their Sea Camp pistols. I already open EDC a knife and flashlight on my neck. Neck carry is obviously for tiny pistols, secured tightly horizontally. But i like the option of open or under shirt carrying.

Unfortunately I live in one of the most Communist States in my opinion Maryland witch...well .... let's just say almost impossible to get a carry permit so that's not something I need to be thoroughly concerned about but I do wear holsters at the range and on private property..ive really debaiting on just carrying conceled anyway...(i know not the smartest)...lol..so anyway any advice I kindly take.thanks again brother.be safe

I'm a 4x guy. Didn't like the bulkiness of the IWB holster in the starter kit. Switched to the the Appendix holster that came with the starter kit at between 3 and 4 o'clock. Train with it their. No problem clearing shirt material and drawing with one hand. To me, alien gear are the best holsters on the market.

Awesome. This is the first time I've ever seen anyone draw from the back without using the other hand to pull up the shirt. I feel it's easier for me to draw one handed. I don't know if I'm not grabbing enough shirt or what but it doesn't completely move out of the way for me. Another good idea that I found as a big guy is suspenders really help out too when carrying.

I am a bigger guy and find that I have to conceal IWB at the 5 O'clock position. I have an older Alien Gear holster that I used to use a lot. I think I will be trying a new one very soon. Great video.

As a big guy I appreciate this video. I have been carrying in the ShapeShift 4.0 IWB for years and have several mods as well. I ankle carry a lot do to my job and rules they have in place and love it. The drop leg is my go to for hunting and hiking as I wear a chest pack for my binoculars. I do have a couple things I would like to see for us bigger folks. The first is with the belly band. I would like to see a bigger option and have the metal loop moved to right next to where the holster attached. With where it is now it jabs in to my belly when I sit or bend. on the ankle holster I would like to see a strap added lower to keep the pice around my heel.
yeah the ankle holster is nicely designed except the part that is supposed to sit under the the arch of your foot likes to slip
I agree about the belly band being in bigger sizes. I would buy one of those today if they offered bigger sizes in that. I don't wear belts very often which means wearing a waistband holster is not usually an option.

My neighbor a local police officer recommended that I check out Alien Gear Holsters. After doing so I bought a Cloak Tuck 3.0 IWB (years ago) and it is super comfortable, and now I have the Cloak Mod OWB with a shell for a different pistol. Its like having having 4 different holsters, since I can swap shells. Also you guys are one of the few companies that has a holster set up for a Daewoo DP51/Lionheart LH9 (same as the Daewoo with a few minor upgrades). Loved your customer service and I plan on getting another holster or two from you all in the future. I'm thinking of getting the chest holster for my GP100 which is my hunting carry gun.

I’m a big guy also. I carry a Taurus g2c in a Alien Gear Shapeshifter. I recommend sanding down the side of the weapon grip (not too much), that touches your skin.
It's important to find a way to carry that works, hopefully this was useful for you.

For concealment a 5 o'clock IWB tends to be the best. OWB at 3 o'clock with a slight cant is the most comfortable with the love handles.
Great video but I would recommend one thing for the drop leg. Make sure your belt rides high and tight. It may not be as comfortable but your pants are sagging and your holster is secured too low on your thigh. You should be able to grip and draw without bending at all. The hand should naturally rest at the grip when standing.

I like to wear sweat pants most of the time and ankle carry has worked out pretty well so far. Might try the shoulder rig when jacket weather comes around.

She is having a holster sale now and there is a cross draw shoulder holster that fit up to size 46" under arm or underbreast i just ordered for subcompact gun or standard gun. So Question, What Position Do You Carry IWB To Be Able To Sit And Bend And Whatnot comfortably Cause Where Im Used To Carrying OWB, About 3 O Clock, Just Plain Doesnt Work For IWB. Any Suggestions?
Josh this will vary from person to person. Body type and clothing preference will play a roll as well. I really favor the 3:30 - 4:30 position and I have no issues with it at all. I carry almost every day. I disc golf, fish, work, drive and sometimes even nap in mine:)
I know it is a tough job keeping up with all of the various handguns out there but I bought the shapeshift core carry and the defensive driver for the versatility of it. I absolutely love them and have been amazed at how comfortable it is. I bought for my Springfield Armory Tactical 3" .40. I would love to get a shell for my Kimber Tactical Ultra II .45 ACP. Any plans to develop one in the near future?
Because of this video I will get a chest holster for riding my motorcycle with a jacket over it

Still waiting for a Shapeshift 4.0 for the Smith and wesson 2.0 compact 9mm 3.6 Barrel without thumb safety
I’m a big guy so I appreciate the information.
I'm a bigger guy and I typically carry the shape shift 4.0 at about 4 o' clock. I have a shoulder holster from AG so I can stay strapped in my pajamas lol. I did kinda find a way around the trouble with reaching across the chest. I carry a Glock 23 but my backup mags are G22, hence slightly longer for easier reach. The shoulder rig will likely be my EDC for the colder months. I'll be able to conceal just fine under a jacket of some kind
I've been thinking about the 4.0. I carry at 4 with a left handed holster on my right side. I wonder if you can do that with the 4.0?

My SP101 is comfortable in a iwb holster on my side. Actually my gut helps to keep it from printing. Looking for a shoulder holster for my S&W 686 6".

@@buzzardmuff I did the chat when I was origanly ordering they said the 9mm Targert has a diffrent sight profile and sits higher sadly I have no way to verify that with out buying a 1911 shell that says it won't fit and see if it does.
Again big guy here you can carry your appendix just push it off to the right or left depending on your hand period and you can carry it just fine and comfortable

I know this is for the bigger guy but what about women who are not of the tiny size? What if a woman is of a bigger built with a chest that wont allow the chest holster you wear? What if she lives in a hot state such as Florida and is worrying about sweating on the holster and or gun when its concealed? What position would she be best using to place the holster if she is a right handed girl? Loved the video and being new to guns and CCW its a lot to take in but since I made the choice to get the CCW I need to get the guts to carry it while being comfortable and not scared of dropping it or doing something dumb like have it show through my clothes. Fat guy here, but I've heard from women who were very happy concealing with belly band holsters underneath loose shirts. Before I was told, I saw no clue that they carried. Shirts with patterns (plaid, floral, etc.) conceal the best. Belly bands are versatile and can be worn in many different ways. They're also inexpensive and can easily be washed. Buy a couple and rotate use. From experience, I know that polymer framed striker fired pistols tolerate sweat the best, especially Glocks. Small guns are most comfortable to carry concealed. Lightly clean your pistol at least weekly, doesn't have to be thorough every time. Field strip, wipe down, and lightly oil. Good to go.

@@buzzardmuff Thank you I am there looking for the belly bands. I do notice they go up to 4x in their clothing. I know other women who are 5x and looking so I will give them link to the belly band when I find it to see if they can wear it. Personally not sure if I can even do a 4x since my body is short and compact with upper chest meeting lower hips area lol. Plus this is Florida and hot as you know what so belly band may be a tad hot to wear but will try it. Thanks

The only problem I have as a bigger guy is that I carry appendix and even tho its comfortable standing, when I sit down in my car or bend over thats when it really hurts. Any holster suggestions?
I've been searching for a good iwb holster for my g19, I'm 280lbs, and it really difficult to find one that's comfortable. I have come to the conclusion that I need to lose weight and my options would be better. In the meantime I'll carry owb. Thanks for the video.
Would you recommend the cloak tuck 3.5 IWB for a bigger guy, around Maxwell's size but for someone in a wheelchair 90% of the time? What is the draw like from a seated position? I can stand and draw if needed, but would prefer to draw from seated if possible.
The 3.5 is designed to be carried on the back of the hip, around the 4:30 position, so it may not be comfortable or easy to draw from in a seated position. We would very much recommend either a belly band or shoulder holster for someone in your situation!

Hello. Great video. I will buy from this company because of the great reviews and the real person in the video. My body build is similar to this man. But I have some questions. I have developed tons of shoulder problems and find it hard to reach across my body at all. Or behind my front pockets. His concealed gun was just to far back for me to be able to comfortably grab. Can it be moved forward very much? Or does it then not fit correctly?
The chest holster looks to be the best option for me as I normally open carry. I however hate to have something causing my chest to look even bigger. Aka man boobs. The strap directly under the pec. Any way to prevent this from happening? Please let me know. Thank you for the real world review.

I don't find any holsters particularly comfortable when driving my car: AIWB, OWB or IWB at 3 & 4 o'clock. Do you make any sort of an OWB cross draw that would hang in your lap?
Bro they have ones that can attach to the bottom of your dash or inside door area if you want to go that route or like under the seat options, just so if you aren't comfortable driving with it or so you can still have the ability to have to fast ready draw if needed in the car
@@leonitis0961 I was hoping to find something that would hand.on my belt, so I could exit the car quickly with it. I once saw a Bond Arms pistol in a cross draw holster like I described. The big problem is that my bucket seats wrap around the waist a bit too much. I've worn out the upholstery on the driver's seat carrying at 4 o'clock.

I'm 5'11" and 245 lbs and I wear my iwb holster right in front of my hip bone, and I cant it all the way back. I have wore it for over a thousand miles stopping only to get gas and to go to the bathroom. I never know it's there. I carry a P95 Ruger I have an alien gear with the leather back.

I almost always carry iwb at 4:30. Cloak Tuck 3.5 or ShapeShift 4.0 makes that a comfortable option. I do have a car safe for instances where I am “not supposed” to conceal carry.

What kind of belt do you like to use with the IWB? A big problem I have, as a bigger guy, is the belt I use is a Velcro one. I can’t remember the name but it’s one of the click ones and we’ll known in the community. Getting that thing to be just the right size is a pain

what is your opinion of pocket holsters with smaller guns like the .380?
I wish I knew. I have used our pocket holster for my old Sig P238 and it was great. Didn’t do much training with it though.
@@buzzardmuff training is important. You want to make sure you hit your target. You are responsible for that bullet when it leaves the barrel.
The training really is key. The holster will work fine for it as long as you train with it, in my opinion.

Im a big guy used to be a mlb I'm football. I don't run anymore to old. I fight the bear . And I had the 50 AR desert eagle and those guns suck. Sold mine a week after I got it and took $100 hit just to get rid of it.

What is it that he had sewn into his vest to make it more comfortable and last longer? TVE?
Think they said tpe. Main thing is it's extra material. Presumably smooth, so it doesn't catch. So when it's rubbing on the gun all day, it wears on the extra, rather then the expensive vest
TPE stands for thermoplastic elastomer. That is what our Alien Skin texturing is made of on many of our holster bases. It’s Alien Science.
@@buzzardmuff is that something that a consumer can purchase from you? I wear Duluth Trading Company Firehose Flex Cargo Pants and the hard edge of my Shapeshift holster rubs holes in the rear of the pants above the pocket. Maybe sewing some of that would lessen the wear on the pants

Black Rhino Concealment should be able to help there. They were the only place I managed to find that would make a holster for Masada/Light/Optic.
AnR design does light bearing/optic cut holsters also.
