    www.govexec.com/management/2019/07/citing-new-supreme-court-ruling-va-allow-religious-displays-hospitals-and-facilities/158209/
    Existing policy, according to VA, has created “unfortunate incidents” such as Christmas trees and carollers being banned at various facilities. The new guidance will “bring simplicity and clarity” to religious policies across VA’s network, the department said, and “promote religious liberty” for veterans.
    The policy applies to any public space, such as lobbies and grounds, and to any “text, material object, emblem or image that is representative of a religious or spiritual belief.” It allows for symbols and displays on walls, tables, structures and as required for holidays. The displays should “recognize the important role that religion plays in the lives of many Americans.

      Idiot cop doesn't even realize that people can be trespassed from public property that is completely government owned and operated. Just because the VA trespasses people from the property doesn't automatically mean it's private property. Besides everything surrounding it screams public. Va.gov not. Org and it's at the Department of Veteran Affairs not an association. An individual Hospital property might be privately owned and loaned out to Veteran Affairs for their use... That means that it's being used for public service and therefore has become a sort of public property. The government has tried to get around any laws by conducting activities on private property and trespassing people claiming that they aren't the ones preventing people from enjoying Public Services it's the private property owner and they have no control over it... And the courts have determined that if private property is being used by the government for public services then it's functionally no different than the government owning thr land when it comes to Civil Rights determinations.

    How hard is it for these police to understand the simple concept of private property vs public property? They can’t understand the concept of what trespassing is or isn’t.

    • @ConsciousExpression
      @ConsciousExpression Před 3 měsíci

      You can be trespassed from publicly owned and even public access property for lots of reasons. The library is public property/access but you can be trespassed if you disobey the rules, for example by being loud.
      This was a bad trespass, but you can't just do whatever you want on publicly owned property. This was constitutionally protected activity though, almost certainly.

    • @ConsciousExpression
      @ConsciousExpression Před měsícem

      No, that isn't true. The supreme court ruled long long long ago that all rights are subject to reasonable time, place and manner restrictions. I already gave an example: you do not have unfettered free speech in the public library. They can kick you out for being loud, and this is 100% legal and constitutional. IT has nothing to do with noise ordinances, the administrator of the library can remove you from the property for that reason, as well as others.

    • @ConsciousExpression
      @ConsciousExpression Před měsícem

      I heard you the first time. You're still wrong. Look up time place and manner restrictions, and learn something. Administrators of public property are allowed to keep that property true to the purpose of the property. You can't just do whatever you want whereever you want "because it's public property." Different types of public property are reserved for certain kinds of use, and also only allow public access at certain times of day, etc. That is what is meant by time, place and manner restrictions.
      If the library admin says you are being too loud, they can trespass you. It doesn't require any disorderly charge or anything like that. The administrator is allowed discretion in that regard.

My comment from earlier: "Unfortunately, he can be trespassed, it may be publicly accessible, BUT, the courts have upheld that the controlling agents can trespass individuals from the property. It looks like it is not private property in the purest sense, it may be publicly owned or leased (the cop was wrong calling it private property). However, the courts have consistently said the people in control of the public property can trespass you. The 1A auditors deal with this all the time, but they are just filming, because this guy had a sign, he became a protestor. I think this is why security wanted him gone. So all you commenters talking about lawsuits are just talking out your ass, he can try to sue the VA (another longshot), but the cop was following standard procedures therefore his Qualified Immunity stands, and the courts will dismiss the case."

If he was standing on a sidewalk in the front of the building then there would be no trespass but he wasn't. Supervisor earns an F. Cop earns an F. Federal property is public property. Cop needs deescalating training. So bad. Cop was a complete total schumck. So sad. Also very very. Cop stated 9 times plus that is was private property.

      And listen to the cop's voice at the beginning of the video, and then at the end. Notice his voice rise about 4 octaves? That's how you know a cop knows he/she is in the wrong. Every. Fucking. Time.

    I spent a long career in the Army, including 5 years, 8 months time in close combat. Plus another 4 months on a combat operation with the French. Wounded 12 times, 2 extremely serious. I'm rated a permanently and totally disabled veteran by the VA -- without PTSD, although I'm treated for it.
    THAT SAID, My brother/ sister vets deserve better than living on the streets. Those most likely of ending up this way are those with major PTSD and related issues, drug addiction for severe pain issues, CTE/ Dementia, or other Traumatic Brain Injuries.
    There are some wonderful, but extremely limited PRIVATELY FUNDED programs addressing the problem of veteran homelessness.
    WE NEED MORE. The federal government wastes billions upon billions every year on ridiculous programs and their non-productive "overhead." The VA is as bad as any other federal Department.
    Cut that garbage out and re-allocate it to facilities for homeless vets and their families. Even mobile homes, set up on vacant federal property, with some infrastructure. Provide our lost brothers, sisters and their families with the care they need in a STABLE environment. US Military Veterans are NOT lazy. Some are simply "lost." Let's bring them home.
    IF WE CAN'T GIVE THEM A LIFT TO GET BACK ON THEIR FEET AND STABILIZED, THEN WHO AND WHAT ARE WE?
