1946 Gibson J-45 versus 2020 Atkin The Forty Three

- In this video Martijn van Agt plays a new vintage guitar next to the the real deal, In this case a 1946 Gibson J-45. We wanna find out how an Atkin The Fort Three compare next to a 74 year old Gibson. We are not aiming to find one better than the other. We are interested to learn if these new vintage guitars come close to the real deal. So what do you think? How does the Atkin hold up against the Gibson. Or this a guitar with its own character and sound?

I play a very worn, battered 43 and love it to death.It's 12 years old and has a unique bluesy sound. Some session players I know say it beats their old Gibsons. . Of course the burst is darker - it's like me, I'm 74 and getting darker by the minute haha
A new guitar and strings is going to sound bright would be interesting to hear one five or so years down the line.

I have an Atkin 47 .....it knocks spots of any other guitar I’ve ever owned or played .....stunning instrument.
What is an Atkin? Sounds pretty cool. I am fortunate to have a 46. We are both blessed
The Adkins catches your ear at first. Very nice but …the mids are a bit muddy for my tastes when compared to the J45.
Great demo very well done. Does give the chance to hear the guitar how it will sound when someone has the ability to make stand up and HOWL! Thanks!
The J43 sounds great, but hasn't got the typical J45 depth or warmth. It's a lovely guitar but hasn't got the J45 vibe going for me, too jangly.. Terrible sunburst pattern too.
Agree, Atkin sounds too bright, but they are getting close
I agree. Was lucky enough to spend some time with both the Atkin 43 and a 42 banner series Gibson J45 (built in 00) at Chicago Music Exchange over the holidays. After a few hours boing back and forth, I walked out with the Gibson. The Atkin is a gorgeous guitar, but it just didn't quite have that Gibson sound I was looking for
To my ears ( I own a « real » banner SJ) thee Atkin sounds quite close to the original

The new guitar sounds promising but the sunburst shading is plain ugly .... my personal taste here.
They do all different types of finishes and bursts in these j43s ✌🏼

no way! The other boutique builders just get the shape right. The attention to detail on these things is unreal they look just like the old ones. but they also dialed in that attention under the hood and actually sound like the old ones. Maybe a Pre-War guitar company or Fairbanks. But Collings, Santa Cruz, Bourgeois are not getting the sound right.
The Atkin sounds wonderful!! The Gibby isn't bad either.

I own areal 46 and the bracing is much lighter. Plus it has the fabric
