+Katherine Harris We were all suckered into this stupid video. For all the n00bs out there, Tracert or trace route prints out the nodes/hosts that it hops to to get from google.com to your computer. It is helpful in finding out if there is a FW in front of the site.

Tracert command actually just shows you the path your packets take between routers to get to a network. in this case it is google.

No, he doesn't even trace google.com because he's using 'tracert google.com' instead of 'tracert google.com'.
What he's actually tracing is the DNS hijacker of his ISP.
Just try for yourself - Windows will give you an error message if you try 'tracert google.com' (if you don't use a shitty ISP that is).

64ms from El Paso, Texas to Herndon, Virginia? My math says that should be closer to 35-40ms. Still a little odd that it would so far, surely Google have edge servers close to Texas than Virginia?

How time has flown past us, I can remember this one guy on school using Google in 2007, and we were like what kind of website is that? He told us it was going to be really big one day and used it for his Power presentation about worms.
Problem was, when he searched for something, he usually was forced to open the second page. At that moment only a few people used it rarely. Yahoo was much better back then.

tracert (or trace route) is used to find how many routers are between you and a specific connection... to my knowledge these will not be SOHO routers.

That is not how many people are looking at google, or people's Ip's, or connection speed. If this guy is the next generation hacker then IT defense won't be very hard. each line represents a hop to get to the destination in this case google.com the "speed" is the time it takes to get to that hop and back.

Then the "kid" shouldn't be giving technology advice like he's the authority on it. I don't mean to sound overly negative and like a "nay-sayer", but the fact is that misrepresenting tools such as tracert and ping that can be used for genuinely useful purposes (i.e. testing DNS, etc.) and making them out to look like tools that they're not just contributes to the whole image of the script kiddie that the majority of us want to minimize.
