The best quote someone said about this: "The people who used to bully you for liking Star Wars are now in control of it"
Yeah I read it too. Profound ain't it.
Slow clap.
And now bully you for NOT liking it.
So glad Theorys finally starting to be vocal about how shit star wars has become
i think its a band nerd takeover
The stupidest thing is that Star Wars already had one of the strongest female leads of all time when it was originally written. Leia is the leader of the Rebellion which is why she gets captured in the first movie. Leia’s main character features are that she’s brave, smart, and respected. The galaxy is dominated by a totalitarian regime that blows her home planet up in front of her, and her response is “$&@ you, come get these rebel hands.” She’s the definition of a badass, well written female character.
Queen Amidala as well
Thank youuuuu. She needs more love.
And now they simply have unbelievable characters that would apparently never get captured while having no training (rey). Optional: sob back story of being abandoned, orphaned or lgbtq being their entire backstory. Or my favorite: being bullied for their skin color. It's just so tiring.
Well, Mon Mothma (also a woman) was the founder and leaser of the rebel alliance, but yes.
What surprises me most is how anybody is able to F up a masterpiece like Star Wars. Like i give you the whole package, episodes 1-6, now i tell you to expand it however you like. I'd be utterly shocked to see anyone mess it up this bad
Fun fact: the poison scene wasn’t acting the actor was just trying to get out of the show by any means necessary.
unironically, my mom, aunt and uncle love this show. they are past senior age though.they also love KDRAMA.
they were moved at the poison scene. taste is relative i guess
i gotta test my water if it has lead in it....

It isn't tinfoil to see the same message fucking everywhere and go "This fucking message is everywhere."
Stop noticing things. Pattern recognition is haram.
"ThE mESsaGe" - Critical Drinker
Do you have a liscence for all that noticing?
Yep. It's one thing to introduce a bunch of cool new female/'dIvErSe' characters. It's quite another to make it so blatantly one-sided (TFA, TROS, Solo, Ahsoka, Acolyte), to tear down all the previous male leads as being incompetent/overshadowed or even downright bad (Obi-Wan, Boba Fett, Mando, TLJ), and to make them all such unbearably copy-paste girlbosses that will never face adversity that actually impacts them. It's so noticeable and boringly predictable at this point that even South Park parodied it. And now when people send a clear message back, let's see what Disney does with it... Oh look, what a surprise: fan-baiting, blaming others to cope for their own incompetence and being out of touch, calling the people that made the franchise great to begin with toxic ists 'n phobes. It's so unbelievably petty this shit couldn't have been headed by anyone other than women (yes, shots fired; you've had close to a decade now and billions of dollars to prove us wrong, and what did ya choose to do, what did ya do, Disney?)

I still cant believe how uninformed one of the cast members is where he:
- twice said anakin blew up the death star in separate interviews
- said star wars doesnt have a good or evil its a matter of opinion
- said he never felt he could be a jedi because he had a darker skin tone and didnt feel represented... *Cough* mace windu *cough* 20 years ago *cough* finn held a lightsaber and had a fight only a few years ago *cough* (and james earle jones was always known as darth vader even though he was just the voice. He's much more widely known than sebastian stan and peter krause were)
He knows enough about SW to believe Anakin blew up the death star. That's all we need to know. My favourite actor when I was a kid (female) was Bruce Lee. I knew I could never be a Chinese martial artist but that didn't mean I couldn't enjoy watching him be one. If they truly believe 'I have no affinity because I can't see myself', they're either narcissists or they're fed those lines by Disney in 'media training'.
These people worship villains in real life and claim they are good so it makes sense they are confused and gaslighting people to believe it’s all perspective.
@@tkps 100% I loved Bruce lee as well and Jackie Chan was someone we all loved pretending to be as kids at school. We all loved power rangers as well and didn't care who played who, we could see ourselves as all of the rangers. Just because you haven't physically seen someone play a role doesnt mean you can't see yourself in the role. (Even though the actor in this situation is just factually incorrect as we have had Mace Windu as a main jedi and as George Lucas says, pretty much everyone in star wars is an alien).
Disney is just hypocritical in the whole thing anyway.

Friendly reminder that the Acolyte creator, in all her girl-boss interviews, kinda neglects to mention that she was Harvey Weinstein's personal assistant for years, and knew all of the shady goings on, but for 'reasons' was able to avoid being dragged down. 22:40 another example of that sort of retroactive reinterpretation is all the people that view Sam and Frodo as a gay couple, or when Aragorn kisses Boromir's forehead as he's dying from his wounds as proof that Aragorn is bisexual. There used to be a collective understanding that expressing genuine compassion and love for someone didn't always mean there was a romantic implication. I believe it's the difference between pathos, ethos, and eros, if I remember correctly. But now our society is so obsessively focused on sexual orientation and gender identity that everything is now viewed through the lens of "who does character X like to sleep with?" and it has tainted almost every new piece of media being created.
Criminally underrated point, more people need to know this
It's because all these woke people have to derive pleasure from is hedonism and conformity. They don't understand the meaning of love and compassion which is terribly ironic in my opinion
You're confounding Pathos and ethos with Philia, which means "friendship" one of the four loves, but yeah, everything you said checks out, there's even a cool CS Lewis quote about it: “Those who cannot conceive of friendship as a substantive love but only as a disguise or elaboration of Eros betray the fact that they have never had a friend.” - C.S. Lewis

Such a shock that a show with a majority male audience would reject such an anti-male show.
It's not blatantly anti-male but, the real problem is that it's rewriting starwars canon.

The terms Racist and Sexist don’t mean anything anymore
The only meaning they have left is in telling you what the political leanings of the person saying them are. The moment someone says those words in any context other than joking and/or critical of them is probably someone who's going to do whatever they can to ruin you if they find out you're not one of them.
I’ve been saying for the last couple of years. You used to not want to be called a racist or sexist because it was bad but if everyone is being called racist or sexist then there’s no fear anymore. Star Wars fans don’t hate female leads because they’re female, but we’ll hate if the writing just sucks. We’ve had strong female leads like Leia and Jyn and other strong female characters such as Ashoka, Padme, Asaj Ventress, Bo Katan (she’s better in TCW). The reason why everyone hated the sequels wasn’t because the main character was a girl, but it was because her story and writing sucked, and it’s the same thing with The Acolyte.

I think it's an important point : a show shouldn't gatekeep its fandom. A fandom who would reject fans because of their gender or skin colour would be utterly rotten.
But it doesn't have to catter to them just for the sake of inclusivity. One of the issues around Kailo Ren stems from the extended universe that got de-canonized by disney.
Originally Luke named his son ben in honor of Obi wan, who he knew as "Old Ben Kenobi" for a long while. In disney's canon, Leia named her son Ben... even though she knew him as Obi Wan, not as ben, and Han only just met the guy before his death.
As far as character and growth, he has some interesting things going on with him but nothing spectacular.
One thing that will always bug me about Disney Star wars is that they dont understand the force. I swear they saw "The Force Unleashed" gameplay and that that was the norm.

But they premiered the first 2 episodes at once so that number is divided in half for the show’s viewers so best case 2.4 million people watched both episodes but Disney+ has 120 million subscribers
This means that only 2% watched on day one and even after 5 days it was still only 9% at 11 million
And Disney called these numbers “record breaking”
Which means that every single other show on Disney+ did worse
And Disney+ has yet to make a single solitary dollar in profit

Disney saying that their audience hates female leads and that Star Wars has been a patriarch is absolutely idiotic. Leia was not only a PRINCESS (who broke the norms of a princess being delicate)- she was also apart of the Senate AND the leader of the whole ass Rebellion. She was an extremely active character that often lead the charge. Not only that, but Padme was a similarly active, strong female character. A whole ass QUEEN and SENATOR who took her roles very seriously. On top of that, she was a beautiful wife who supported and cared for Anakin as he grew into a man. But, please Disney, keep yapping about how women have been neglected in Star Wars. Obviously the cast is more male leaning because at it's core, Star Wars is an epic Sci-Fi franchise with action, war and tons of battle and politics. Be realistic. Our current militia is heavily made of men (more than 80% men), it's just the facts. It's insane to call Star Wars a patriarch when it deals with male dominated topics and themes.
EDIT: As the replies are mentioning, I completely forgot to mention the badass females from The Clone Wars. Some replies list them all and I'd like to highlight Ahsoka (she's genuinely my favorite character, Anakin being my second. I can't believe I forgot to mention TCW characters). Ahsoka's dual wielding was incredibly epic and unique and her character arc over the show was BY FAR one of the most in-depth ones in Star Wars. Ahsoka is the prime example of how George Lucas's Star Wars was NOT AT ALL snoozing when it came to females.

The actual "ist" doesn't even care what these people call them because they're proud of it. The average person is not but they are confused and questioning their own morals because Disney is telling them to out of misplaced guilt
Because their worldview doesn't acknowledge competing ideas. Everything ultimately comes down to power and who is in charge. Ripley wasn't super physically attractive, but her determination, instinct, and emotion made her attractive. especially in Aliens where the character showed motherly instinct. Modern hollywood would hate ripley.

@@TheJALT2 No she was damn hot.
Nah, She a stone cold fox... smh
I mean she's not asian supermodel level hot but she's a functionally attractive woman. That's also part of what makes her character believable. She seems like a fairly normal person who's been thrust into a crazy situation. Same with characters like Sarah Connor from Terminator.
I think that at least in the first Alien film it is clear that even if the main character was played by someone like Stallone, simple physical strength and courage would not be enough in the face of a Xenomorph. So Ripley was also the voice of intelligence and common sense - precisely what connects us to her. She was trying to follow protocols in the face of an unknown threat and the other crew ignored her.

The logic I’ve come to is that by constantly propagating a “message” toward some individual, that individual will eventually resent the message if told over and over, thus it creates a cycle of one becoming phobic towards a movement, the other uses that to affirm why the movement should exist and propagates it further in a endless loop until it may build up so much it breaks apart which I think will start happening sooner rather than later.

"You can't take a male character and turn them into a female character without some degree of dissonance" That's... Well, it CAN be done well, Ellen Ripley in the first Alien movie was supposed to be a man until Weaver took the role and they adjusted it for her.
Disney's current staff can't write characters of Either Gender.
...and I liked Blade just fine, no male-ness required. Star Wars has always had a female audience, I grew up on it, and my mother was the one who took interest in it with me. Unfortunately for Disney, I also grew up on the books that they told us are no longer canon, substituting for their own garbage.
Asmond is right about trust. In 1986, the surprise reveal of Samus being a female if you beat the game under 5 hours was received extremely well. People were shocked, hype and thought it was badass. Boys in school talked about it and loved the character even more.

I think one of the big problems is that for so many of these writers, those aspects of identity like race, gender, sexual orientation, are such an important part of their view of themselves or the world that as soon as they have made the character those things they think they have a complete character.
So we have stuff like we see in this show where motivations change on a dime courses of action just get changed because that’s what we want to have happened now.
The thought of creating a character with a consistent personality is washed away by the fact that when describing them they say oh black female gay.
The funniest part of the music video is that Amandla is bitching about journalist when they already are simpin for Disney and DEI as hard as they can. These people can't even keep track of who their allies are.

The old Star Wars books meticulously followed the lore. The retconning was very minimal until Disney got it’s hands on Star Wars.
So true they had to ruin everything to suit their own agenda
It was virtually non-existant before Dave Filloni started wrecking it with his Clone Wars show writing. Disney made it way worse, and predictably Dave doubled down on wrecking even his own older lore. Disney has utterly trashed everything about this IP at every turn, there's nothing left for people who used to love it.

Whoa whoa, I'm a legends guy thru and thru, but am I the only one not forgetting the Boba fett books? Crisis at Bakura? There were some books that was very liberal with the lore and canon.
I don't remember any lore conflicts in the Boba Fett books. And I barely remember Crisis at Bakura.
I still can't get over Obi disabling that gate... that is such level of brain worms from creators that I didn't think possible.
That was my first time seeing that and it was set up by incredibly stupid producers or directors. Its like a parking garage gate.

Let's not forget the entire fourth episode when they infiltrated that stronghold
I was still interested in star wars at the time of watching that in obi wan (I think it was episode one or two) I quickly looked elsewhere for my entertainment after that.
I think that was a miscommunication between writers and VFX. That gate was probably intended to be more impressive than what we ended up getting
Th reason why this happens is from Leslie's own mouth. She walked in thinking she could do a job with no experience and say she could do it and believe she could do it.. so she made what she could.
There was virtually no retconning until Dave Filoni got his hands on a creative job.
They don’t care if you like it. They are preaching, they think it’s important to spread their message.
Felt this way for a while now. Why else put 180 million towards something knowing it isn’t going to be received well
Yes. People keep talking about how these shows lose money, but the creators don't actually care. They see themselves as so morally "correct" that it's a price they're willing to pay so long as they stay in control of culture to spread their message.
No they're communists. They aren't trying to make money, they are trying to bankrupt and ruin anything capitalistic. They are killing every industry on purpose, as an act of sabotage.
Actually, they are so bad, that they DO care if you like it... and happen to have "dangly bits".
If you like it, they want to take it away from you, by ruining it.
They've been *telling* you, for 50 years, that you have the same value to them, as bicycles do to fish.
This is just the next step.
Several quick bits of evidence to support my claim...
The Last Jedi... KK's t-shirt... all of the gen-swapping... the character-destruction of male characters... how quick they are to blame the audience for not liking their new stuff... their *choices* in who they get to act/write/direct (Headland, Obaid-Chinoy, etc.)... and so on.
And they will keep producing garbage like this as long as investors and company leadership allow themselves to be gaslit by these grifter show runners and writers.
So the show is about black kids without a father trying to cope... Well well well, I think Disney is being kinda racist there.

The show looks like a low budget fan series where half the actors would have fought so hard off screen to be picked as jedi, they forgot how to act.
Because it is probably very low budget. See Asmongold is wrong. Disney are making tons of money from this show. See the show is distributed by Disney, and showrunners pay to Disney for the brand and distribution. Disney do not care if the show is good or not. Money comes from private funds, which pay mostly for Disney name and network. Then they sell the fact their show is on Disney network. So people with the money do not really care about the show. This is relatively new business model, created for streaming platforms, but it is widespread now. That is why we get so many bad movies and shows.
that would imply they could act but there's no and instead the woman is the message here woman are great woman are the best etc meanwhile star wars has always been male dominated it's mostly men who like and watch star wars xD

I feel like you’re misinterpreting what he was saying in that moment. “Retcon == Bad” is not absolute. The crux of the issue at hand is that these retcons do nothing to make the story better and in fact make them worse. Lucas himself has a number of retcons as did the extended universe but *generally* they were in service of telling a better story and thus got a pass. Tldr; if the story was better few people would care about minor revisions but it sucks so its another piece of tinder to add to the pile.
He will. He stated multiple times that he just views dumb sequels as fanfiction. I honestly also got into that train of tought after he mentioned it. Instead of wasting my time on multi-million dolar fanfiction movies I'll just find some novels from authors online that actually care about and like the franchise.

Disney bought the Star Wars Universe without knowing what a Universe is. They released a sequel trilogy without any pre-planned, overarching story. They release show after show on the same terms: whoever is in charge of that show gets to make up canon. Politics and everything else aside, that is absolutely bonkers to me.
Maximal incompetence. Infuriatingly mind-boggling.
I was just thinking this today. Disney is used to simple properties where lore isn’t important. They want the lowest common denominator to get normies to go to the theme parks and buy merch, that’s it. Storytelling is irrelevant
I think it comes back to the stupidity of agendas in TLJ. TFA was made to establish the elements for TLJ. TLJ divided the fandom. Everything since is trying to build on or justify their take on the sequels by way of nostalgia bait or agenda.
@Ruylopez778 That was the consequence, but that's the thing: "elements." Why not "this is the main storyline, y'all flesh out the details"? Weird.
The day the loose their rights on this franchise I will celebrate for days
I used to watch a lot of British murder mysteries but when DEI became bigger in the late 2010s, suddenly the murderer was always the one middle class white dude...needless to say this took the drama out of the mystery as you could immediately solve the mystery as soon as you looked at all of the characters. The problem wasn’t the diverse cast, it was that only one person could take morally dubious actions so there was no mystery anymore.
The status quo is easy to uphold when it shifts to what you want.
Entertainment by definition is escape. We have complacently allowed through social medias integration the replacement of escape instead for relevancy so now you have entertainment not doing it’s core design and instead being used as an extension of individuals social media pages. Suits trying to have their cake and eat it too, focused on all the wrong priorities that have nothing to do with entertainment and hiring individuals based off those wrong priorities then producing products again based off the wrong priorities. So is it any wonder when you focus on non-entertainment priorities you get a bad entertainment product? Seems logical if the foundation and the approach you take to everything you’re doing has nothing to do with entertainment!
These people take entertainment, IP and then make it about themselves or their agendas. Again, it’s just literally an extension of their social media page because they are trying to say their insecure, desperate attention seeking desires.
Which makes everything come across as disingenuous and forced and unnatural because again none of this has anything to do with entertainment, it’s all about themselves .
A decade ago we knew this, or maybe we just had the accountability to enforce it. But we as consumers have lacked that accountability, said it is what it is far too often, and allowed the integration of relevancy into an area that it does not belong just based off the definition of entertainment. Entertainment is designed to provide you with escape , not by insecure, desperate attention, seeking Twitter obsessed, dumbasses, trying to shove their controlling narcissism in your face.
We have got to stop feeding with access to our eyeballs and wallet anything that does not have the priority of authentic entertainment, a.k.a. authentic escape. If that is not the sole priority of the product/project in this entertainment industry… then do not feed it!
The single biggest problem with The Acolyte so far is how emotional the Jedi are!! As an old school Star Wars fan, it irks me to no end seeing them get mad or happy. Jedi are supposed to control their emotions. These ones fail hard.
And this is supposed to be un the High Republic era? When the Jedi are supposed to be in GREAT form? Like jeez louize, man.
Sol is emotional because the twins are his Kids. Its basically the biggest foreshadowing they could smack you in the face with, They bring it up multiple times in the show about his attachment to them... People are just morons and can't see it for some reason... Instead they latched onto "Well the Witch said they had no father so that must be true" despite Obiwan Literally lying to Luke in the first movie.
I was thinking if anakin had fallen to the dark side during this era I would be happy to see these Jedi being cut down. Like Imagine an actual plot cleansing from the chosen one.
It's because they've twisted stoicism into "toxic masculinity" of course they can't have that in their sh*tshow
the jedi are supposed to be controlled and stoic, the sith are supposed to be the ones feeding off emotions.
I love how during that weird cult chant scene they all get together like they're about do a ritual in unison but then every single woman there does a totally different gesture at every beat in the scene.

Right! He can go home and watch a good movie!
The thing about the Ki-Adi Mundi retcon is that Star Wars is great because it's always been the fans who decide contradictions in lore.
The movies have priority over shows. They always have. If there's a contradiction between a movie and a show, the movie is considered canon.
The real issue isn't that they tried to retcon it, because it doesn't work. The issue is that Wookieepedia is LETTING them retcon it. That's not how it works.
The person who made the video was wrong about Kennobi. Darth Vader literally implies having faced Obi-Wan a couple of time in between the Mustafar fight and their fight on the Death Star. That's why fans kind of expected Obi-Wan to win against Vader.
