Lukas Nelson opened the Nelson Family Concert at the Celebrity Theater in Phoenix this past January with an impressively searing acoustic version of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Breakdown that made me mourn Tom's passing all over again. Not only was it a great show but when it was over Micah Nelson traded his "lucky" black baseball cap for my husband’s Indian Motorcycles cap! Wherever you are Micah I hope it's bringing you good fortune! What a talented (and kind) pair of brothers!

When I was a little girl I lived in a neighborhood that was new. I remember all the parents looked out for all of us kids. When my dad decided the grass was greener everywhere but home,the neighbors still looked out for me. I’m old now and still Reiner and feel,the love shown to me. Didn’t watch much news back then.

I was cheering too loud (got excited, lol) when he started singing the song about turning off the news, & he hollered to quit screaming till I knew what the song was. I knew, but I shushed for the man anyways, lol.

Since I was so hard on Lucas in that 2010 FarmAid video I figured I'd listen to something more current. While he is still not, and will never be a SRV or Jimi as people in the comments of the old video were saying, this was an enjoyable set to watch.

@@slimjim7873 Great, can't argue over something subjective like who thinks one guy is cooler than another guy. The original discussion in the other video(FarmAid 2010) was whether Lukas was as accomplished a guitar player as those other guys. In my opinion he was an embarrassment to his bandmates in the FarmAid video. He was absolutely horrible but people were commenting how great he was and how he is the new Jimi Hendrix or Stevie Ray Vaughn. He is not even in the same universe when it comes to guitar playing or song writing as those guys. That doesn't mean Lukas can't be entertaining, but guys like Jimi or SRV come along very rarely and leave an impact on music forever after they're gone. Lukas plays mostly cover songs and a few of his originals are decent. He is a more competent guitar player now than in the FarmAid 2010 video but will never be mentioned as a guitar great as the other two guys certainly were. Lukas is just not that caliber of player. Doesn't mean you can't like him and his music more than those two other guys, that's your perogative. But saying Lukas is as good a guitar player or songwriter as those two other guys is just absurd. His technical ability, his tone, his feel, etc. on guitar is not even in the same universe, as I said before. It's like comparing a house painter to Michaelangelo.

When I was a little girl I lived in a neighborhood that was new. I remember all the parents looked out for all of us kids. I was cheering too loud (got excited, lol) when he started singing the song about turning off the news, & he hollered to quit screaming till I knew what the song was. Since I was so hard on Lucas in that 2010 FarmAid video I figured I'd listen to something more current.
While he is still not, and will never be a SRV or Jimi as people in the comments of the old video were saying, this was an enjoyable set to watch.
sheehy933 Jimi and Stevie were set apart from average guitar players... I think he is too.. I think the difference is his approach from a country music sensibility...just sayin ‘

@@slimjim7873 Great, can't argue over something subjective like who thinks one guy is cooler than another guy. The original discussion in the other video(FarmAid 2010) was whether Lukas was as accomplished a guitar player as those other guys. In my opinion he was an embarrassment to his bandmates in the FarmAid video. He was absolutely horrible but people were commenting how great he was and how he is the new Jimi Hendrix or Stevie Ray Vaughn. He is not even in the same universe when it comes to guitar playing or song writing as those guys. That doesn't mean Lukas can't be entertaining, but guys like Jimi or SRV come along very rarely and leave an impact on music forever after they're gone. Lukas plays mostly cover songs and a few of his originals are decent. He is a more competent guitar player now than in the FarmAid 2010 video but will never be mentioned as a guitar great as the other two guys certainly were. Lukas is just not that caliber of player. Doesn't mean you can't like him and his music more than those two other guys, that's your perogative. But saying Lukas is as good a guitar player or songwriter as those two other guys is just absurd. His technical ability, his tone, his feel, etc. on guitar is not even in the same universe, as I said before. It's like comparing a house painter to Michaelangelo.
