    Thanks for the video. I do suggest preparing ahead of time before doing these recordings. Nobody wants to watch someone fumble over cables or unbox random junk from these niche items. You could've condensed this into a 5 min video and saved yourself a lot of editing time.

    Can you please do a revisit of this monitor? And describe productivity... how is it for example using Lightroom or office. What’s the native resolution?

    This screen seems to also be called Acer PM8 as well as Acer PM168QKT. I had the same issue that it works only on HDMI. If you connect it using HDMI (and only then) you can get to an on-screen menu where you can supposedly switch to USB-C. This doesn't work. I'll return the screen and do not recommend buying it.

    It would be great if you could provide a review of a more affordable option for 4K OLED portable monitors like Ehomewei or VChance in the future. Just my two cent

      If those companies can send it out, I'd love to do that. This is the eternal struggle of reviewing products. I just can't get my hands on all of them (nor do I want to if I am honest, because that would make my suitcase incredibly heavy when traveling).

    Can you use it as your main monitor, I want to replace my old monitor. I use a Mac mini m2.

    • @ChrisSpiegl
      @ChrisSpiegl  Před měsícem

      Yes, no problem with that. And if it's this exact model, you even have touch features if you want to use those.

  • @anmiasm

    Why can't you just press option+scale image to see exact resolution? I'm curios since a lot of people are complaining they cannot make 4k monitors work as hidpi with virtual fullhd space

    I like having my laptop elevated as well with a stand like the Roost, how would you do that for a portable monitor?

    • @ChrisSpiegl
      @ChrisSpiegl  Před rokem

      UPERFECT offers a stand which helps with that a little bit.

    For $900USD or $750USD on discount ... mind as well get a $999 iPadPro 12.9 ... I mean, you get a M1 iPad and sidecar ....
    How do you justify this purchase?

    • @Arthur_StJohn
      @Arthur_StJohn Před rokem

      because maybe some of us either have no use for or would want nothing to do with an Ipad Pro. It also helps that it can connect to any device to be used as a portable display?

      For $475 you can buy a 15.6 "4k OLED screen on Aliexpress, without batteries, also working on one cable.

    Hello there ! Just looked your video, Love it ! big Thumb up !
    One question for you : Did you try to use a stylet on this touchscreen ? if yes, Is it working well ? For cases like sign documents, drawing...
    Because I took an iPad Pro...but it's (way) too much for some cases...(and can I understand that a too big investment for some people to spend on iPad Pro for just specific cases)
    Maybe I'm not the only one to have thought about that...to use a portable touch screen for example presentation or sign documents...🤔

    • @ChrisSpiegl
      @ChrisSpiegl  Před rokem +1

      I did not try that. I am not a huge fan of the touch feature and have not really used it.

  • @telelaci2
    @telelaci2 Před 10 měsíci

    I don't understand this review. You buy a 4k display. You pay for a 4k OLED display. Then its starts in 1080p, but eventually you can set it 2048 x 1152 and that is "very promising" as you say that.
    What does it mean "high DPI mode", you repeat that at least 5 times in this video. Is it a Mac thing? We PC users say 3840 x 2160p and maybe 60Hz. And that is much more informative than "High DPI". How "high" ?
    You bought a 4k display you should be able to use it in 4k. I wouldn't be so happy for 2048 x 1152 if I was you. Neither with MAC nor with PC.

    • @ChrisSpiegl
      @ChrisSpiegl  Před 9 měsíci

      HiDPI is not a "mac thing" it's on Windows as well, you just might now it around the topic of "UI or Interface Scaling".
      HiDPI means that the monitor may have 4k or something like 3840 x 2160p (which this monitor does) but if you use it in HiDPI you can "scale the UI".
      Meaning: things look like you are on a 1080p or 2048/1152 screen but they are actually displayed with the pixel density of a 4k monitor. Aka; whatever was 1 to 1 pixels on a 1080p screen would be 4 to 1 pixels on a 4k monitor with propper UI scaling.
      Again: you do the same on a Windows machine if you have a 4k monitor on a laptop and set the UI scaling to 150% for example.

    • @telelaci2
      @telelaci2 Před 9 měsíci

      @@ChrisSpiegl You made it not clearer at all. In windows or linux, the OS uses the display in the max supported native resolution. In the year of 2023 the 3840 x 2160p 60Hz display is one of the most common thing. And the OS must drive the monitor with that resolution. This is a minimum that you can expect from a modern OS. The scaling of UI is something totally different problem. But in the first step your OS must accept the display's EDID info and must switch the video signal to 3840 x 2160p, XY Hz and it must use the display in its native resolution. Then you can play with the scaling as you want. Both windows and linux can set anything between 1 .... 3 even fractional multipliers.
      "1080p screen would be 4 to 1 pixels" - absolutely not, this is why I don't understand your mentioned "resolutions".
      The UI scaling is not so stupid (multiplying/repeating pixels by 4 and that's it), but there are different UI elements exists for different resolutions, of course there are nice high res buttons and icons and wallpapers for 2160p UI in Windows, and the system changes the fonts too. Simply because it's so common resolution. There are no restrictions. So it's a "MacBook thing" if you have to set the UI resolution 2048 x 1152 ( it's barely more that 1920 x 1080!), for that I wouldn't be happy at all. And it's very strange when an OS is so undemanding in almost 2024 that it can't handle 3840x2160 precisely perfectly and you have to make compromises. I'm just in surprise. I like my iPhone, but I won't buy a MacBook if I can't even set a 4k display properly. Maybe they want you to buy an Apple 4k display? No ASUS and LG and other "craps". In my opinion an LG OLED is not "crap" at all.
