How To Bag / Transport Aquarium Fish

  • Firstly you will need some good quality fish bags. For small to medium fish try these
or for larger fish use these ones.
Bagging aquarium fish can seem like magic when you buy from your local aquarium shop and it takes practice to do correctly. It's important to master if you are going to be moving your fish; incorrectly bagging fish can cause them stress or even death.
Using the technique shown in my video you will be able to bag your fish correctly. It is important to get a good seal on the opening so air doesn't escape and cause the bag to deflate or leak water. Make sure that the bag is well pressurized (feels like an inflated balloon) as this will keep the bag from bending and possibly trapping your fish.
Many people think that it's important to get as much water in a fish bag as possible but this is wrong. It's actually the air which is important as this is where the majority of the oxygen will come from whilst the fish are in there. The ideal ratio is about 1/3 water and 2/3 air. So long as this is achieved and the temperature of the water is kept relatively stable, fish are OK to be kept in bags for almost 12-18 hours (this is the case for most local fish stores when they order fish for sale).
