Basic recipe:
3 parts infused oil, 1 part mango or shea butter, 1 part beeswax. SO if making 16 ounces it would be 12 ounces herb infused oil, 2 ounces beeswax, 2 ounces mango or shea butter.
Add essential oils of choice
Wait. Shouldn't it be like this: ?
3 parts infused oil, 1 part mango or shea butter, 1 part beeswax = 6 (not 12) ounces herb infused oil, 2 ounces beeswax, 2 ounces mango or shea butter.
What do you use for eczema?
This is my math LOL...6 parts infused oil, 1 part beeswax, 1 part butter. (75% infused oil + 12.5% beeswax + 12.5% butter)
I’m confused on math. 2 x 3 = 6
Heidi- I just started my second plantain salve. I foraged 100 broadleaf plantain and dried them on a rack in my garden. I whizzed them up in a smoothie maker. I bought a new mason jar. I bought 4 bottles of avocado oil. I put the dry plantain in the jar, and added 3 bottles of avocado oil. I'll leave it for 2 months to infuse. I'll then sieve the contents of the jar. I'll use coconut oil and beeswax to make the salve.
I'm an esthetician and I've been making salves like this for my clients for years. They LOVE them!
Boy I wish I had u my esthetician doesn't do any of that.
Time to do it yourself 🙂
Woohoo 60 thousand mark. Fantastic.. oh boy taking notes. I needed this one forsure! God Bless
Thank you so much for this video!!! I made my first salve and my whole family loves it!!
Thank you my friend. GOD bless you and your family. ♥️
Great healing creams.Thank you for sharing Heidi.
Can't wait to make salves out of the oils. Thank you my sister 💓
I am actually planning to make some calendula salve today so this was a good video for me to watch. I have had my oil infusing since February. I've never made a salve before so I was a little nervous to try but you make it look so easy. And I also want to tell you that I made a bunch of both types of your the cast iron skillet handle covers and LOVE them! They are pretty much used every day. Heidi, you are awesome! God bless you and your family
It’s amazing you don’t have melasma and look young…thank you soo much!
Thanks for sharing, they look beautiful.
Thank you, this city girl continues too learn soo much from you. God Bless, keep up the Lords work.
Heidi, last year I made a healing salve, based on what you already had on your channel, and made it specifically for my chickies--- I use it on any wounds or bald spots that they have (for sunburn, their combs, etc.)---it works like a champ! I really believe in the natural healing wonders of what's in the back yard and what a person can make from flowers, herbs, etc. I have learned a lot from you and really appreciate your videos--my hubby loves it when he sees Patrick make something on the channel or when he speaks up too! Blessings from Dawn @ Rich & Dawn in MN :)
Just WOW!!! I LOVED THIS!! And YES, God is Good‼️🎉✝️
Wonderful, I have been so busy with my garden. I am trying to catch up on the wonderful content that you have inside of that little half pint size body 😁. I don't know where you store all that knowledge. But I am surely glad to have the opportunity to have access to your channel!! I am not working right now. My husband still working. But, we are always looking for ways to boost our immune system. And eating healthier no white flour no white sugar no pork no processed foods on and on I could go on about what I have cut out. But you are helping me to understand the herbs better. Thank you Heidi, I wish I could have come across your channel when you started it. But I think that God is a timely God! May he be with you in all your heart's desires and meet you at all your points of needs!
It's nap time for the littles & my 3rd time watching this to see what you're doing.
Your skin looks great. I’d use your salves for general skin care.
Thank you. I love your videos. So inspiring!!
I went back and made the oil for this salve and have just been using oil haven't made salve yet but the oil works great, my elbows arnt scaly anymore and thee dry spots on my face are gone after 2 days. May just leave it and not make salve. Thanks for a winner Heidi. Heading to a farm this morn. to see the sunflower maze and pick up some produce we don't grow yet in our urban garden.
I learn so much from you, thank you💚
Love your videos ..have made many things and worked amazing ..looking forward to your next video .Thanks for sharing ! Blessings
I have all the ingredients and forgot how to put it together. Have my infused oil. Great tutorial. Ty Heidi!
God bless you my dear thank you so much for your help
I love mango butter - not a fan of shea. You can always put a stainless screwer or utensil in the jars before pouring to prevent the glass cracking, because the stainless steel absorbs the heat.
This is a timely lesson! I just made my first-ever skin salve, Seaside Plantain in beeswax and olive oil. I pt it into an old mayo jar and it’s already being used for cuts and scrapes - to wondrous results! Now I’m going to check out your healing oil vid and make some while foraging opportunity is going strong! Thank you for all your self-reliance instruction! Stay well!
That is great, again. Thank you.
You have amazing skin!
Hi Heidi, God is good all the time. Amen❤❤❤❤

Started my Citrus vinegar yesterday on the counter near the wood heater. Thanks
Thanks for sharing Heidi! Am using an infused oil topically (evoo, ground cloves and rosemary) but want to make some salves. Also use essential oils and want to learn more. I do grow my own herbs primarily for culinary but definitely want grow comfrey and mullein and possibly yarrow for salve.
Can't wait to make this. I just went and cut some comfrey before winter kills everything. I already had yarrow and plantain dried for the infused oil. I just love your videos. God is good!
I dried plantain and added avocado oil last night. I've foraged yarrow and dried and powdered it. Would you recommend I add the yarrow to the plantain? I have pineapple weed too.
Heidi this is a great video. I can listen to you forever about the different natural remedies. Personally I don't like most of the stuff you can buy, it soaks into your skin (sponge) and you don't really know the side affects. I am trying to binge watch all of your videos. They are so informative. Blessings and I hope you and Patrick stay safe. Take care. Mary
Thank you so much Mary!
Cant wait to try this. I'd highly recommend whipping the butters as they are very easy to whip and add the infused oil and essential oils. It will take a shorter time and retain the goodness. The only thing you'll melt in the pot is the beeswax
Yes, I have done that before but do not prefer using that method, especially when using beeswax. It is just important to stick with a low heat to preserve the benefits
Thank you
Hooray!!! I have been planning to make skin cream, but have been hesitant. I have lanolin, shea butter, and coconut oil that I want to mix with Eucalyptus. Thank you for the timely inspiration! I Love your channel!!!
Eucalyptus and mint go well together. We put both in the hot tub.
Thank you, going to do today.
Awesome! I’ve been trying to formulate a good eczema butter for my daughter. It’s been a lot of trial and error. I’m gonna give this a try.
We try milk kefir mix with coconut oil for our son and works very good. Either you can add some Aloe Vera to the mix.
GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME! 🙌
Beautiful.i use the same method and just prepared my skin cream..with beeswax💗
Thank you for sharing 😊❤️🙏
Nice to meet you❤️
Just found you and subscribed. Thank you so much🙏
Great video thank you. ❤
I bought some notebooks, am writing everything down. Cant wait to gather supplys and get started. Actually right now its after midnight and I should be sleeping but the the video for the herb infused oil is up next so just one more!
Heidi,
I am going to have to try that Mango butter, we do use the shea butter. Heidi, Rick has real bad Eczema and I mixed Calendula as I soaked the calendula in Avocado oils and boy it sure worked for him. Thank you for another great video.

Congrats on 60k subscribers 👏🎉
Thank you!!
Even making my own, I still love to watch other people make salves, etc. Like you I want my oil super strong, which means I plan ahead. I infuse my oils and after I strain them I do a double infusion by adding more herbs to that infused oil and infuse it again. I love bee's wax to stiffen it up. To finish it off I have a bowl of ice water ready. I set my pan of infused oils and melted bee's wax in the cold pan and immediately whisk it like crazy. It makes it fluffy, lighter and creamier. Keep up the good work. I so look forward to your videos. I learn something every single time ☺️
Love this idea! My stand mixer will whip this right up 💜
I've had some things soaking in oil since your last video like this. I forgot about it until now. Ha, guess I should get it made. 😂 Love & Light my friends!
Thanks
Thank you for sharing this. Im really interested in herbs and wild plants. I will have to go somewhere else to pick them . they spray weed killer at my apt.
Heidi, would love for you to come up with a cellulite treatment. I realise it's also an internal issue due to toxic build up etc but your creations are so beautiful if you made a cellulite treatment for the skin I'm sure would be a best seller! I think you're just brilliant 👍💐🤸😉
Try coffee infused oil or salve, massage toward the heart
@@JazzyMamaInAK Thankyou for your reply it is much appreciated and I will try this 🌹🌺🌹🌺🌹
@@JazzyMamaInAK Thank u very much for this information..!!! 🙏🙏🙏
As a general rule, the orange oils are not phototoxic, grapefruit, lemon, lime, and bitter orange are (though they can sometimes be used super-diluted). There are a few noncitrus oils that are phototoxic; a reliable company will have the information in the product description
Sweet orange/wild orange, mandarin, tangerine, lemongrass (not a citrus though), steam distilled lime and lemon oils are not phototoxic. Some even argue about grapefruit. On the other hand, steam distilled sweet orange, lime, lemon, bergamot and bitter orange are.Same with other essential oils.
"It takes 24 times as much grapefruit essential oil to be as phototoxic as 1 drop of bergamot.
Here’s a list of the maximum number of drops per ounce of carrier oil before each of these essential oils will cause a phototoxic reaction:
bergamot 1 drop
cold-pressed lime 4 drops
bitter orange 8 drops
cold-pressed lemon 12 drops
grapefruit 24 drops"

Weird I found where others are telling how to do it in the comment section. Thank you Debbie

I need to order essential oils, I've only used Doterra, but they are so expensive. Going to try the NOW as you have always been pleased with them, thanks for sharing the salve. Blessings
I don't like DoTerra. Give NOW a try.
@@StephanieJoRountree thanks, I know if Heidi says its good it is, appreciate your feedback
Try Revive oils excellent to DT oils & much more affordable ..
NOW brand tested pure; not all of doTerra's did
Now is great an also to throw this out there even though I know this is an older post lol also try plant therapy essential oils they r great in quality and price😉
I still need to get some comfrey!!!!! I guess I'll wait until next year 😢
Hello Heidi thanks for your great videos. I made some really nice salve but I noticed one of tin salve has a more grainy texture. Why would that happen ?
Hi Heidi .. I have been wondering if you make a washing up detergent .. I’ve been using store bought detergent, but would like to change to a natural one .. I really love all of your video’s I have watched .. and learnt so much. I’m concerned about the future and I think the more I can provide naturally from home for my family the better off we will be. Many thanks .. God bless you and yours. 🌻
If you mean for laundry and so on, yes: czcams.com/video/FB4LDBZLoIU/video.html
I have some Wideleaf plantain and some Narrowleaf plantain and some stinging nettle and chamomile that I am going to put in a salve. Do you think that would help for someone with shingles?? I’ve never had it but I hear it is extremely painful! I’ve watched this video several times but I finally ordered some beeswax! God bless!🙏🌱😊

Hi lady great content ty . Can I infuse grapeseed oil with fresh herbs cooked on the stove for 1 to 2 hours . Thx 🎉🎉🎉🎉
That is not a method I recommend as you can damage the benefits of the herbs. Please see this video: czcams.com/video/BUVlOUewYJE/video.html
I’ve thinking to make my own nipple balm for when baby arrives. Are there herbs you’d recommend for that?
I was tickled to learn my grocery store's brand of of peanut butter comes with a plastic lid that fits pretty good on my small mouth jars ☺️
Those little things can make my day, too.😂

Have you ever made a salve or a balm with the vicks plant? Plectranthus tomentosa? I have searched and searched and have found nothing. Thank you.
Hi HEIDI, where do you get your stainless steel tins from? Much better than the aluminium ones!
Love your videos! Can this healing salve be used on dogs?
I have used it on my dog but it may depend on the essential oils you use. Tea tree can be harmful
I have now made your cream,it was spising
Easy 12:15
I really like your ramedies
Heidi I just went to your Etsy store and ordered some seeds. I’m so excited. I wanted to know if you will be selling this cream. If so I want some. I don’t have the herbs to make it myself. God bless you my friend.
I might some day but it won't be soon. I do have my regular skin cream on my store which also works well for scrapes, cuts, cracks, and such
Rain Country ok thank you. ❤️
Thank you for you insightful information you freely share. I made my first salve, but it didn't thicken like the salves shone. My recipe was Ingredients:
comfrey, lemon mint, plantain, Avocado oil, grape seed oil coconut oil, beeswax,
Essential oils lavender, peppermint, lemon, tea tree
1½c infused oil with essential oils, 1oz beeswax. With the essential oils, would I be able to heat mixture again with more wax? Your thoughts, please. Thank you from NC.
You are just listing ingredients but not telling me ratios used. To get a thick salve, the ratio of beeswax to butters and oils matters. If you use the same ratio I used in the video, you should get the same result I did
Warm the salve on low and add another oz of beeswax
Do you have a recipe for poppy seed ointment for use on wounds, cuts and scrapes ?
No, I do not
Off topic: I love your floral hoodie!
Thank you! Clearance item I found some years back :)
Can't wait to try this, I need to make the healing oil first though. I wanted to ask, I live in a very warm climate and find that my salves and creams become liquidy especially on top. How much more beeswax should I use to help prevent this from occurring? Thanks for all of the great information.
I cannot be certain on that but just start small, such as an extra tsp. See how that does. If it still melts at room temp, melt it all down again with another tsp and just go from there. It does not take much to suddenly change it from soft to hard.
@@RainCountryHomestead thank you for your reply.
Great info! I am curious as to why you use beeswax as I have read it clogs the pores?
I use it in my homemade skin cream that I have been using on my face for years now with no problems
Hi I'm looking for a salve recipe that will help with sciatica will this work.
Can you do a video on stinging nettle cream?
I have not used nettle in a cream but the process would be the same
Also can I infuse rose 🌹 with plantain amd white clover 🍀 together
You can add whatever healing herbs you wish such as honeysuckle, yarrow, violets, dandelions, lavender, and much more
I love it, I am making my own for burn wounds purpose but I will exclude the citrus oil.
Mine is with infusion oil of Avocado oil, Bee wax, sea butter, cocoa butter, eucalyptus, sea buckthorn. To repair cells.
any suggestions?
I did not use citrus oils in this though I do in one of my regular skin cream recipes but the recipe in this video is more specifically for healing and I believe I gave several suggestions in there
@@RainCountryHomestead Yes you did! I appreciate it very much. It is for a burning purpose with alcohol and fire on my leg, but thinking better I think is better if I exclude the Eucalyptus oil, and use the rest of my ingredients.
What about adding moragana oil? Looking into getting some oil and powder. Thank you for all the information you teach us! God bless you 😘
No familiar with that oil
@@RainCountryHomestead sorry ment moringa, lol
If you’re talking about moringa oil it would be great to add
Where to buy that ? I need it please
Do your herbs need to be dried before you infuse them? I would love to try this with Green Tea or Horsetail Butter. Those have amazing healing properties.
When one is infusing in oil, yes, they do
Have you ever made any herbal products with tallow as a base?
I personally have not but would consider it if it was something I had in abundance
I made this salve once and it was amazing! The solution for my very dry hands. Time to make more. I didn’t add essential oils when I made the salve the second time around. Can I carefully melt it again and mix the oil at a later date? Thanks!
Yes, you can :)
@@RainCountryHomestead Thank you, Heidi! 😊
Can I use comfrey for arthritis? Thought about making a salve. Thank you.
Comfrey, arnica, and castor oil are great options. Please check out my video here on an infused oil for joints and muscles, I do not talk about castor oil in this one but now I blend it with the avocado oil when making the infusion: czcams.com/video/oDZCAXxH4U8/video.html
Here is the short where I mention adding the castor oil: czcams.com/video/ytDA8C6HpX0/video.html
Can you add essential oil in the calendula oil? I made me some salve and added lavender oil, I wonder if I can do that to just the calendula oil. I would like to use it all over the body. Thank you!
Yes but as you can see in this video, I do not add the essential oils to the infused oil while it is infusing, only after I have strained it and am using it in a blend. I do this for a couple of reasons. One being that one will lose some of that essential oil when straining out the herbs and the other being that you may not want the whole amount of infused oil to have that particular essential oil in it. For example, I have a specific infused oil I use for the skin cream I use on my face, hands, etc..and also in my lip balm. Since I sell three different "scents" of skin cream and many different flavors of lip balm, the proper essential oil will only be added to each individual batch. Thus, it is best to keep the infused oil plain until you are blending it with other fats for making whatever it is you plan to make with it
do you have something that you make for pain? or joint pain? thanks in advance
czcams.com/video/5yrNGcgeMDE/video.html
Wodering when making infuse oil, can you use the mixer or blender to get more of the herbs with the oils?
You can if you want but I would not blend it, it will make it harder to strain out the bits
@RainCountryHomestead thanks for your reply. I really enjoy your knowledge because you know what you are doing. I see lots of people making infuse oils, and everything they are doing is wrong.
Do you have one for keloids?
What is your recommendation for itchy bug bites? Thank you 😺👍🌞🐾🐾
Plantain and yarrow are both excellent and both are used in this
Hello Heidi. Can you tell me where you got the table for your treadle sewing machine? I looked at the Janome 712T link you gave and it says it needs the treadle table. I don't know where to get one. Thank you and God bless!
My mother in law gave that to me many years ago, long before I actually had a treacle machine. While new ones can be purchased, they can be very expensive. I believe Lehman's carries them. Try looking in places such as eBay, facebook market and other such places that one can find used items. Sometimes you can find pretty good deals on them
@@RainCountryHomestead Thank you!
Do you have to dry the comfrey first? Thank you 🌹
Whenever you are infusing herbs in oil, yes, they all must be dried first. This is important
Heidi how long can you store the "left over" oil for ? I have some left over comfrey , calendula and St Johns wort oil from October 2019 , would that still be good to make a batch of salve ? I am a new subbie from New Zealand and I love your channel .
I have never had any go bad even after several years
@@RainCountryHomestead thanks so much, that's good to know.
Hiw can i add colloidal silver to a salve. I truly believe in it and use it all the time . I can't find anything on it thanks in advance
Adding a liquid like that to fats and oils is tricky because fat and water do not mix but it can work with emulsification which is a messy process that requires a blender. I hate it myself so I am one would would apply the colloidal silver first then the salve over the top. Much easier and less mess
@@RainCountryHomestead great idea . Thank you
Is it the mango butter that gives it the pretty orange color?
It is not orange, it is more of a greenish gold and that comes from the herbs that I infused in avocado oil
How many times can you re-infuse dried healing herbs with oil? Also, can you put the oily herbs in the compost? Thank you
I only do it once as most of the benefits are already removed in the first run. I do not recommend composting them but there are other uses: czcams.com/video/eVUCY8iXfqk/video.html
does your lotions absorb into the skin and not leave the skin greasy?i’m trying to find a homemade recipe that will absorb into the skin and not be so greasy. I love your videos keep up the great work.
My skin cream does not absorb the way store bought face creams or lotions do. However, I have been using it for years and love it. For me, it does eventually absorb but can take awhile but that is actually why I like it. I use it on my face, hands, feet, lips, anywhere I feel I need it, even in my hair
Thank you so much for you quickly replying I appreciate it.
Hi Anita why do t you try adding a bit of arrowroot powder to absorb some of the oiliness like with body butters
I love when I come across these older videos and they turn out to be something I need at this moment! (Is Google reading my mind? 😆) Anyway.....I made some comfrey salve, a year or so ago. A LARGE amount, too. It works very well. However, it's a bit "grainy"....as if the beeswax (the yellow stuff) didn't melt well. As a result, when I rub it in, globs fall off...it never seems to fully "smooth" into my skin, no matter how long I rub it in. Frustrating. But, I don't want to throw it out.
I believe the only ingredients are the comfrey oil (almond oil plus the comfrey), the yellow beeswax, and possibly some shea butter.
So, first, what did I do wrong to cause this? Second, is there any way I can smooth it out? Melt it? Let it dissolve again? But then what?
I have this happen from time to time with my skin creams and more even if it all melted and everything started off as smooth after it first cooled. My only theory on this is changes in temperature or when they cool too quickly. I have often remelted such things to get them a better texture again
@@RainCountryHomestead Thanks! I'll try remelting it.
