As a submariner, I approve of this film.

When I was a kid in the 1950s, I watched this show, Victory At Sea, (about the Navy in general during the war), and The Big Picture, (about the Army). They taught me a lot about World War II in general, and about the different services and where they fought. I have since learned to look beyond the propaganda and to sift the truth out. Still a good show.

Now I know why that call it the silent service. After listening to ear shattering klaxons and diesel motors all day, everyone onboard is deaf!

WOW - this is the first time I've heard the sonar return sound. Great production this. God bless our brave submariners.

A U-boat officer wouldn't quote range in 'yards'.

Amazing how important and effective the submarine was during WW2, especially in the Pacific. You hear about the allies closing the air gap in the Atlantic with air cover. In the Pacific air patrols must have been a threat to the US and IJN along with Destroyers. I would think both sides lost submarines to air patrols. The chances of a sub chasing down another sub astronomical.

The American captain: you know, if I were that Nazi skipper, I'd never touch Singapore, I'd figure they were expecting me there. No sir, I'd come around sumatra up through sunda straight and make my run there.

No sir, I'd figure we would come around sumatra up through sunda straight and make our run there. Thats what I'd figure if I was an American captain, so let's do the obvious and go straight to Singapore where they wouldn't expect us and wouldn't be there like we expected

There were only four speaking parts in the whole production.

I love these old sub battle vignettes. I just wish the Penis Fluctus time mark could be way bigger! Don't you! I want it to block the whole f-in screen - not just 1/3rd!
