  • Hello tequileros!
Coco is one of the most beautiful and representative movies about Mexican Día de muertos (The day of the dead) and is has been super requested by you, here we are!
I have obviously watched this movie many times already but it still turns me into a crying mess every single time, so I think you will still enjoy my reaction, even if it is not a first time watching. I included a few capsules explaining Alebrijes, the altar and other fun trivia, as well as a couple personal stories.
Make sure to catch it at the premier to get a nice freebie!

The two scenes that really make me cry, are when Chicharron is forgotten, and the hammock shifts as he fades away, and the ending of course. The ending is happy tears, but it is such a wonderful heartfelt song and moment. I loved the little bits of information you added culturally.

I really loved your reaction. It felt more emotional (than it already is) because this is your culture. I can see how much it means to you and how much you appreciate this film for doing a great job representing it. You also gave me some extra information i didnt knew before, which i really like.
When i first saw this film i was emotionally and mentally broken. Its so good! I still watch this film a few times a year and it still makes me cry as well haha.
It also gave me another way of thinking, of what would happen after we die. I think its a beautiful tradition. I truly think about it a lot. It even made me think that (if i would get a mexican partner or not), that i would do something like this when im older.
I lost my mom at 4 years old. I do have 3 memories of her but they are fague and not really happy moments. On ther other hand they are happy because i remember something. Everytime my dad or family tell stories about my mom, it always fills me with warmth and love. It feels like i can imagine her being alive. So thats another reason why i love the thought behind this tradition. I think i understand the feelings of the people celebrating Dia de muertos. I always have her photo's up, but i think that someday, if i live on my own (27 still live with my parents xD), maybe i would do something like this for her to.
Again, really loved your reaction. It was very emotional, fun and informative. I hope more people get to see it.
    Thankyou !

The flower is called Cempasuchil and it is a flower we use particularly for Dia de muertos, I believe in English is Marigold. Funerals always are a sour-sweet experience, of course we are sad for the departure of a loved one but at the same time it brings families together. I’m sorry for your loss Don, but next year you can set an altar and she might visit you back :)

Na música, o professor havia nos mostrado o filme 'The Book of Life'.

Knocking down the photo of a woman who is at least equally as responsible as de la Cruz for nearly getting an innocent man forgotten is a bad omen? Well, considering they never call her out in this movie, I am okay with this. She gets a minute taste of what she put Hector through. And I don't want to hear any excuses in Sean Bean's voice. If Jared Bush could call out the matriarch of a Latino family, so could Lee Unkrich.
For the characters whose actors didn't reprise their roles for the Spanish dub, they did a good job of casting similarly sounding actors. You have to kind of listen closely to realize Enrique is not voiced by Jaime Camil. And Miguel's Spanish VA sounds a lot like Anthony Gonzales.

I love all the cultural background tidbits you gave us in this video. Christian culture has erased so much culture that came before it, even in countries you don't think of being affected. In the Nordic countries, Christianity took over a thousand years ago, but Midsummer, a pagan tradition, is still the second most important holiday here. Glad we kept a little bit. It's important to keep our traditions alive and pass them on to the next generation, but also, learning about other cultures is so vital to broaden our horizons and gain a better understanding for each other. Not to mention it's really, really cool. Thank you!

Is there a way I can use a different flower for the day of the dead. I wish to practice in honor of my grandmothers bloodline. Mama Rita, She was half Spanish/Mexica and Romani bohemian. Tradition was important to her and the children didn’t really carry on the tradition. She grew up in Minnesota Wisconsin area when her father great grandpa Zamos fled Mexico after the assassination of poncho villa. Apparently he was one of like four doctors who was given permission to work on poncho villas shoulder injury during the final battle of the revolution. He didn’t feel safe in Mexico after the hit. So fled as north as he could.

But if you can't, you can use any flower, is the intention that counts :) or you can make them with paper, many elementary schools do that so the altar won't die out quickly and thr kids have a feeling of more participation
