as a belgian who read loads of tintin when i was younger, i can say this movie captures the feeling of adventure perfectly from the comics, truly spielberg was perfect for this
Story has it that Spielberg loved the comics as a kid also. Every book was 62 pages
@@seanc.mcnally2118that is not totaly wrong, Steven Spielberg was only introduced to the comics after critics in France kept comparing raiders of the lost ark to it. However Peter Jackson is a life long fan of the franchise.
The visuals were extraordinary in the movie.
Still is
It’s so heartbreaking that only little people know about this movie in our country (which is in south east asia) whenever i ask someone about it they just give me a weird look and ask me who’s tintin. The visuals in this movie is just to die for, i really hope they make the sequel ;-; (also you did a great job explaining the beauty of this movie in such a very straightforward manner!)
I agree with you! And thank you!😊
same thing here in Brazil ;-;
Great news! A sequel has been definitively announced. It's going to be a long wait as it's still kind of in the planning stages, but knowing how good it's going to be, I'm about to be more patient than a six year old waiting in a line in Disneyland to meet Goofy
@@youtubeviolatedme7123 Great to hear that the sequel and trilogy is finally being worked on after a decade of Spielberg and Peter Jackson both being respectfully busy with their own works! Fun fact actually; there was supposed to be a Tintin trilogy of films but Spielberg got busy, especially Peter Jackson who was supposed to direct the sequel.
Im from sea too (Indonesia) and I luv this movie so much because i watched the animated series (I think it was quite popular back then) and read some of the comics as a kid
The man making Tintin’s portrait in the beginning of the movie is Hergé
one of the best animated films of all time.
Agreed!
I remember those days, I traveled 60km to just watch this movie alone. Because it's from my favorite childhood animated series and favorite director.
Where do you live? In Australia? 60km to a Movie theatre? 2yrs. So found a town...
@@petrusinvictus3603 India
OK. India is called Subcontinent, its huge. Finland 330 000 km2. So if I go 60km south. Estonia!
Honestly it's so underrated that it makes me mad
*Also WE NEED A SEQUEL-*
Agreed!
Did you not notice Spielberg’s Hitchcockian cameo as the Sultan?
Doesn't matter if it's an animation film, it has 'Spielberg' written all over the duration.
And you actually picked up my most loved scenes and the things about the film. You did excellent.
Well said! Thank you 😊
The dock crane fight is my favorite part of this movie because its so unique among final fights
Agreed!
One of my favorite parts of the ending is that neither Tintin nor Haddock care about the money they find. Haddock is more interested in wearing his ancestor's hat and Tintin is more interested in discovering the rest of the story. In the final shot, all the gold is left behind in the globe and Tintin and Haddock have both taken what they want from it. Truly a beautiful way to wrap up the story.
We could really use a second movie, this was fantastic.
agreed 😃
This was an AMAZING movie. I still watch it from time to time, just because I love it so much.
Same! 😁
+can you tell me where to find it. I'm not good with locating and downloading things online. I came here to find the full movie but no luck. I absolutely love this movie man
I stumbled on the Tintin series when I was young finding the first season of the animated series in Walmart then I found the comics and I knew about the movie but never really had a chance to watch it all in one sitting. I fell in love with all the characters and how everyone just has amazing chemistry with one another. I just wish people here in America knew about it I always get "oh the movie right?" and I'm just like "yes and no" I am relieved to see more people relating to this. Thank you so much for making this video
I’ve read the comics when I was younger and when I saw that this movie existed I immediately watched it on HBO MAX. The story and the animation is so well done. By far one of the best movies I’ve ever seen.
Oh yes, I enjoyed your video essay so much! I had no idea a Tintin/Disney alliance was suggested decades ago and while I would've loved to see Tintin animated in a classic Disney style, think that motion capture came at the right time to do this film. Live-action Tintin could have looked a bit off (as Herge's characters have some exaggerated noses and beards) and 2D would have been too close to the animated series. I'd say the film is 3/4 Herge storytelling and 1/4 of Spielberg's lively Indiana Jones chase scenes. And yes, setting it in the 1940's gives us a step away from the high tech world we live in and back into the pulp fiction/film noir of the time.
Tintin is an enigma to me. He has no backstory, family, or romantic relationships. But that lack of family ties is what gives him the freedom to go exploring whenever he wants. In the books, he's the everyman, a blank slate. Any child can climb into his skin and imagine himself doing what the the hero is doing. This film does a good job fleshing him out a bit. He still doesn't have a backstory nor does he need one but as you said, it ramps up his enthusiasm for adventure and mystery. He's just the capable Boy Wonder who gets in and out of scrapes. "Relax, I interviewed a pilot once!" Ha ha, how much I loved that scene. It confirms Tintin's capabilities *and* his limits. He can fly a plane....but can't land it properly ;) It's a good thing he's got Captain Haddock as a friend to help him along the way!
Thank you! Well said! 😄
I was nervous to see this movie when it came out, I was pleasantly surprised!
Ngl, seeing that newspaper about the Cigars of the Pharaoh case made me grin like an idiot
The movie is absolutely brilliant . One of my all time favorites.
As a (UK) Tintin fan since childhood, I agree it's a marvellous film and thanks for your thoughts. The only thing I'd have changed is to have the audience hear Snowy's thoughts, as we do in the books. Apart from that - pretty much perfect.
Agreed!
Yes I missed that too........
I love this movie. I recently watched it again, and the last time I watched it I was super young so I actually enjoyed it more since I understood it better! I had to watch it a couple times to catch that they added so much amazing detail and things you wouldn't catch if you weren't paying close attention. Things going on in the background, the transitions, and even the spit coming out of haddock's mouth when he talked. The visual detail was just stunning and they really outdid themselves in this movie, especially considering the time it was made! It's even still better than animations today. The hair is what really amazed me.
Aah...That Theme is bring back Nostalgic. I remember watch it on Video CD which is free from ABC Battery and I never bored watching series. It has a big communication in Indonesia and Japan.
The Crab with the Golden Claws was the first Tintin episode I saw.
Very good video, but only a correction: the movie is not set in England, is set in Belgium (probably in the capital city Brussels). Don't worry, is a common mistake.
Ah got it! Thank you! 😄
@@parikv99 You're welcome 😊👍
This is the movie when I was spell bound while watching it. People name many animated movies that are best but this film in particular is flawless! There's absolutely nothing wrong with this movie. This is one among the very few that I'd give a solid 10/10 without a second thought. First of all, the animation (especially the transitions as you said) were visually stunning! There are hardly a couple of movies that came close to this movie's animation. The story, the pacing, the voice acting, the comedy, the adventure everything is perfect! I feel sincerely very bad for this one to not be recognised by more people. This is the MOST UNDERRATED Animated movie for me.
Thanks for making a video about it with excellent explanation & brilliant editing!❤️
Thank you so much! Glad to see someone love it so much, it's such an underrated film.
I was so psyched to see this in the theater. It blew me away and I was really disappointed that it didn't perform better here.
I remember watching this masterpiece as a teenager and thinking that I was witnessing the birth of the new age of animation. I am sad to say that I was wrong.
Shocked didn't open up a door for more films. It was so well done. I'd of loved a few more.
Note to Americans. Just because a thing isn't well known in America doesn't mean the rest of the world is ignorant of it. Tintin for example is well known as a comic in Europe and as the result of a cartoon series made in the 90's it is well known to British children as it gets regular re-runs on kids' TV. So whilst it may be true that Tintin is unknown to Americans on the other side of the pond it has formed part of most children's experience.
In India, especially in my home city of Kolkata, TinTin holds a status that is on par, if not above, the likes of characters like Feluda and Byomkesh Bakshi. For those people who are not Indians, or most likely Bengalis, this a status of incredible prestige in our popular culture.
It's truly a shame that Tintin isn’t known in America, but hopefully, this film will be the intro/push people need to see this series.
here in Brazil the cartoon is more or less known, but I grew up watching it on TV and on DVD
You know what else is underrated? This channel.
Thank you! 😄
Tintin a underrated thing of the past best comics ever
I grew up with this movie and the titin comics and show, thank you for making this, this was truly a trip down Memorie lane
That was a GOOD movie, this is a GOOOOD video! Great work as always man!
Thanks man! 😇
This and Rango were 2 of the most visualized movies I absolutely love that very little talk about and it's actually sad TBH
this gem is timeless
That end tease tho
I'm still waiting for that
Amazing movie
Very nicely done "video essay"! I have read all the Tintin graphic novels and love Hergé, so I struggled at first with this version, which was mishmash for me, initially. But I agree, it is very unrated, and I have grown to love it with the years since it came out (2011).
I collected all the comic books so this movie was must see for me.
Andy Serkis as Haddock was brilliant.
This makes me so happy to see such an underrated movie appreciated by others as well
It’s one of my favorite movies.
I watched this in cinema with my 3D VFX professor back when I studied animation. We were gobsmacked, especially with the glass and water. The mirrors in the opening scene was just showing off, basically. That took some computing power.
It also features one of most adult portrayals of alcoholism in what is nominally a kids movie.
I love the tintin movie and I think you did a great job in getting your love for the film across to the viewer. But you should go into more detail on why you liked for example andy serkis as captain haddock or Daniel Craig as the villain
I’m glad to hear you liked it, and thank you so much for the feedback! I’ll be sure I improve. 😄
the main animated series was basically the books but made to film, and was done perfectly in my opinion. love the original comics, that series, and also this movie. great stuff Parikv99, I'm honestly surprised there isn't more videos about this movie.
i grew up reading tintin, thanks for making such a high quality video on such an underrated classic. your channel definitely deserves much more support given how good your content is
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Visually was well ahead of its age, and is impressive even today. Great movie!
Agreed!
the adventures of tintin has been my favorite animated movie since i was 6
It's been a while since I saw this movie. I used to watch it a lot!
You’re a man of culture my friend, a clear fan, I’ll always remember the day of being a small las when I watched the movie, one of the best things I ever watched, it made me want to be an explorer lol
I loved the movie when I was younger and still do
I remembered when the movie came out and how when I was younger I watched this in the big screen and thought how cool this movie was. But rewatching it now as an animator designer in training it made me actually appreciate the efforts they put into this very movie deeply. This week I actually rewatched it with an online friend of mine who never heard of this movie. He was super hyped by the end of it, loved the quality and everything with it, especially when he liked adventure movies like Indiana Jones, video games like Uncharted and is a movie fanatic like me. If only this movie came out now it would have gained the recognition it deserves, because dang it, this movie was incredible no matter what. It had it flaws, but you can easily get past them because the visuals are so incredible.
I hope one day this movie will have the sequal. . . because this one truly deserves one. . .
And hopefully they will go out with the effects and everything like they did with this one.
I fully agree with everything you said, here's hoping for part 2. 🤞🏼
Actualy they also have a bit of the book red rakhams tresure but good enough.
This is a well done video covering one of my favorite movies i almost forgot about!
Thank you!
I've not watched TinTin but you did an excellent job with the essay man!
Thank you! I highly recommend you watch it, its an amazing movie. 😄
Who were the creators of this type of animation. I have seen only in the Tintin Adventure Series. Absolutely stunning depictuon of all the characters, locations, every aspect of animation. No other animation comes anywhere near these incredible productions. Really need a lot more of this high quality work. Looking forward to others films made in the same way.

"This movie was pulled from 2 different comics, The Secret of The Unicorn and The Crab with Golden Claws"
Don't forget Red Rackham's Treasure, The whole ending scene was pulled straight out of that movie
This movie is so great!
Bring on the sequel already!
We need one with Professor Calculus!
As a first timer you have done great job👍👍
Thank you!
the nostalgia
I recently watched video easy on this movie and it kinda feel deja vu.. kinda same but different.
But good work. Keep it up.
I have to revisit this movie
Thank you 😊
I tried my best to narrate it in my point of view while giving a good view of its history.
I’m glad you mentioned the bird brothers.
Am I the only one still waiting/hoping for another Tintin film after over a decade! 🥴
Legit one of my favorite movies!!!
Great video ... Keep up the good work ... I really like your style of editing and narration ...
Thank you 😊
Just rewatched it today. Was the first time seeing it since it was released and wow this movie is absolutely incredible. The visuals and cinematography are breathtaking. Its a shame a sequel has not been made yet. Would love for this to be a franchise to cover all the books by Herge.
The visuals and designs are so beautiful that it reminds me of how great the last of us part 2 looks
I kind of wish the original voice acting was in french. Everything doesn't have to be so americanized.
it was bit of a mix between two of my favorite film franchises Indiana Jones (especially with the chase scene) and Pirates of the Caribbean with the flashbacks
This is my 2nd most favourite movie.
Its an amazing little movie and seems neglected by movie fans-as a lifelong tintin fan it was great to see it done properly. Ive seen a few of the TinTins you mentioned and the only half good one is the early 90s tv Animated versions.
It is set in belguim though initially not the uk.
Spielberg had long obsessed about how to make TinTin right and with peter Jackson helping pulled off the impossible. Sadly it has long become clear the jackson directed sequel isnt going to happen.
Great review of another classic Spielberg
I'm proud to have this movie on dvd
My favorite movie of all time!
Love this video! :)
I love this movie! It's funny cause my last name is haddock, and my grandfather served on a liberty ship in WW2, and in are family tree is sir Richard haddock one the captains of the HMS VICTORY in the 1700s.
That’s amazing!
@@parikv99 for the longest I never knew about the captain haddock character, or the haddock character in how to train your dragon movies. Now I'm like where are all these haddock characters coming from? 😁
I wish to see the movie adaption of cigars of the pharaoh and blue lotus, now that is a good arc to make a movie
Great analysis
I loved the first part of your analysis (focussing on the colors and editing). The second part felt more like a summary of the plot instead of an analysis. No critique, just a tip for future essays.
Thank you :”)
A really good Video essay. The animated film is almost perfect , but not quite as we don't have any insights to Snowy's thoughts. Like in the books.
I often find myself quoting "Thundering Typhoons" from Captain Haddock
7:01 Shouldn't it be 1940s belgium?
I think you’re right!
Fun Fact : Steven Spielberg's "The Adventures of Tintin : The Secrets of The Unicorn (2011)" is going to be a better Uncharted Movie than the actual Uncharted Movie starring Peter Parker as Nathan Drake that Sony is releasing this year
Its greit how much man power they put on this. When it came I went for 3D movie. Sadly no part 2....
Hey, I think you are me and I am you! Your thoughts are completely similar to mine! Still you miss some points. That's O.K.
A lot of good movies from 2011 was a underrated masterpiece
Agreed!
I Respect to Peter Jackson . I never forget TINTIN
I really wanna see this
I know that theme! Saw the series on Amazon.
I wish they made a game out of this movie this has uncharted level potential maybe even Better then uncharted I mean how cool would it be to team up with snowy and The Captain as the great N̶a̶t̶h̶a̶n̶ ̶D̶r̶a̶k̶e̶ scratch that THE GREAT TIN TIN AND adventure the seas and find the The sunken Unicorn
That would be absolute greatness, they could've done a lot better than the current Tintin game.
7:00 I think the movie is taking place in Belgium
loved your vid btw
Thank you!
I really enjoyed this movie. But nobody seems to have heard of it.
sad reality we live in
I swear I saw another video with nearly thr exact same title as this, 'underrated masterpiece' appears to be a term thrown around a lot, not that I would necessarily disagree in this case
YESSS
I looked it up: the fanbase's unofficial full name for Tintin is Martin Totor. 🤷♂
The dog name is milú
Why did we never get a sequel
Who knows :(
I waiting for tintin 2😔😔
Off topic but how is the haptic feedback on iPhone Xr
Just as good as every other iPhone :-)
Oh, I love the movies, but I really loved the animated series! Too bad they don't put these on air anymore... They were really awesome!
True! I love the animated series as well, you can find them on Amazon Prime Video if I’m not wrong 😄
@@parikv99 you can? Huh, nice! Too bad I don't have it 😅

It just annoys me that Captain Haddock's head is too big for his body. Not sure how that happened.
felt like a copy of a video essay from film eye.
I’m sorry it feels that way, I genuinely tried my best to express the way I felt about the movie while giving good detail about its conception.
