- It's been a few years since my first ROC and Multi-tool mining guide, and a few changes brought with 3.18 and 3.20 have made the profession a little more manageable, so here's my UPDATED guide!

There’s currently (3.23.1 at the moment of writing) a bug preventing you from selling aphorite more than 3 at a time. You might want to test that yourself first before mining a lot of it.
I can attest to this! Got back with a some and had to sell 3 at a time. Not worth it imo
Hey! So I found out that if you go into whatever container your gems are in, separate the stack into single items, then you can go into the sell interface and sell just one. After that, you can sell all them at once :D good luck
Its crazy they have not even fixed this bug yet

Good to the point guide! And thank you for mentioning to not buy the DS. I see players in game chat asking which one to buy that don't seem to understand how the more expensive one is the crappy one.
I've not tried mining in awhile. Might be time to grab an orebit and my ROC and see what I can find. I always found that for me at least the time wandering around vs the time to just crack the green rocks that are already in front of me and take them anyway seemed to lean towards taking that Dolivine just because the time savings made sense. Plus I've skipped green to find pink and spent hours never finding hadinite so I would have at least made something on the cheap stuff. But if hadanite is popping up more then I'll skip that green.
What makes the DS the crappier version out of the 2?
The DS essentially has a secondary seat that controls the mining laser, so unless you're in a 2-person squad, you have to keep jumping out and switching seats just to mine.

I mean the second seat doesn't bother me and it has more storage space than the less expensive one so idk, to each their own lol

Ahahah yeah, I have been out of the game for quite some time now myself, but I am thinking of rejoining sometime this summer. It is starting too look good, the obvious bugs and balance issues aside.
I feel that! If they can get this Cargo/Hangar patch running well enough it should be a good ol time!

Rented a cutty and roc yesterday. To not be able to find any rocks that i was able to mine . Then the roc bugged out arm didnt move nor would the roc move. I ended out blowing everything up in frustration so complete loss of 50k i felt like screaming so yer good night .........
I think you ran out of power.i use to roc mine alot before i stopped playing for a couple months and that happened because i left the power on while mining.

Does anyone have any suggestions for what to do with how crappy and underpowered the ROC feels? Like, it struggles to climb a hill or get over small obstacles in its path. I remember using this thing to mine back in 3.17 when I played last and it was nothing like that. I had heard that there was a balancing pass over vehicles that changed how things like the ROC, and others, performed. But is there any way around this? Like, should I get a tractor attachment and just carry the damn thing to a gem deposit?
The mining arm on the ROC gets stuck and doesn’t activate, then gets jammed in the back of the C1. Any fix to this?
I noticed this on occasion. Before driving out of the C1 I'll just power cycle the Mining arm.
idk I keep trying to rent/use my ROC 5 times now. Mining mode is bugged and doesnt retract when i press M... does anyone know how to fix this issue?
Could a roc fit in a cutter?
Still getting the random bug where ROC minables dont have collision, and so the laser passes directly through the target without any effect . Seems random and happens less than 20% of the tine for me during 3.23.1
Does the roc eject a box of what you mined or is it the ROC-DS or is that not a function
It's just an accessible storage, not detachable unfortunately.
Never seen janalite? I went and did the exterminate all nests today on hurston and found janalite on 2 of the 3 caves. I usually stay out of caves but might be much more common this patch, or I'm lucky

Both those containers and the ROC seem to bug out on me 90% of the time it can be rather frustrating
i saw someone say if you open the container and look at the inventory space. If it shows an infinite symbol then press "i" key to leave and then "f" to open the container again. Keep doing this until the inventory space shows a number for the space and then it should work.
Aberdeen, smog filled, oppressive, gloomy. The moons not much better either 😂 😂
Not to rain on your parade or anything, but does ROC even work in 3.23?
It's been a little bit since I tried, but the ROC had several completely breaking bugs, and couldn't even drive up a mild incline, making it a real challenge to even get to stuff. Hell, it struggled to get up the ramp into my MSR... I don't know what CIG are thinking sometimes...
Inclines can be a but weird still but now you can actually extend the arm and mine so that’s a plus XD
any one else's having an issue where when you ping it doesn't put a blip on your hud where the pinged material is?
Not personally, no. Have you tried a character repair? Sometimes, that fixes weird bugs!
@@BeardofOz turns out the freelancer max is what the problem was. apparently its been bugged for a long time in regards to pinging. tried it in the cutlass black and it worked as usual.

lol i have run into 6 janalite in a month two of which spawned in the same cave together
your able to sell your roc mining goods? i wasnt able to sell anything
I just did a bunch or ROC mining. Was able to sell at the mining outposts on the planets & moons. The trick I found was go to the back of the ROC and open it's inventory. Transfer all that to the local inventory and sell it from there with the normal terminal you buy and sell from. I did not use any boxes in the ship to store gems. I just did single ROC load runs.
I swear I heard "Tunnels of Pleasure", not Tunnels of Klescher.
Same for some I suppose 🤣
