Star Citizen 3.23.1 - Tutorial - Scanning

- There are lots of reasons you might need to scan. You may need to know the likely position of a hostile ship that just flew out of targeting range. You may need to find a hidden satellite. You may be looking for salvage. The most common reason is you are looking for something to mine.
This video give you the run down on how to scan from a ship not specialised in scanning. No special equipment needed. I expect people will want to try surface mining using a rented Cutlass Black or Prospector. This tells you how.

What a great guide. Thank you so much for creating this. CIG loves to implement changes to systems without explaining the details of how something works or how to use the new system. I appreciate when someone with knowledge takes the time to help others understand.
Thanks a lot. I wish I could fill in more details and work out why it doesn't always work. Since the system has just changed, I'm still testing and experimenting. There is room for a more detailed guide down the line.
PIERC stands for the five types of signals you can detect when scanning in the game. The acronym PIERC represents:
• Power
• Infrared
• Electromagnetic
• Radar
• Cross Section
I think we will eventually get the ability to adjust and scan for each of these individually and or in conjunction with each other.
Man I never would have figured that out. Thanks a lot for helping the community with that piece of info.
♥
This makes sense but where did you get this info?
@@SpaceMike3 I asked ChatGPT 😆 turns out it knows quite a lot about the game. I use it to figure out a lot of stuff SC related like error codes or quick explanations
good video keep it up, we can always need more guides and tutorials
Outstanding guide will be watching more
I've been playing this game since the hanger module and I didn't know half of this information. Well done. o7
Always appreciate people taking the time to make tutorials. Gonna be a chore having to redo all these when the game inevitably changes. With any luck it'll actually be fun then so you wont have to suffer.
I didn't expect to learn how to scan from Boba Fett
underrated comment
Boba Fett always knows where his target is so he is a scanning expert.
How did I get the "Boba Fett" handle? I'm genuinely Curious.
Never heard them called crystals. Gems is what I’ve always heard (not trying to be a cock, trying to help). First time viewer. Thanks for the help with PIERC!!
Thank you kind sir. This is very much appreciated. I had no idea how it worked man.
Great guide, I like that style of small tutorial dedicated to a game function alone. You mentionned gun batteries, does it help identify and maybe target those nasty bunker turrets ? Often it seems I can't get a lock on them when I encounter those.
So when I mention gun batteries I usually refer to the ones in close proximity to a station. I have not tried it on a turret on an installation. However, I have seen signals for ground vehicles using the scanner. I suspect it probably does pick up the bunker turrets but you would likely be in targeting range by the time it is close enough.
Nice video Boffin! Not sure if it works in 3.23.1, but I used to be able to hold down F and then scroll through the scan data on the screen/ui
Woah! That is useful. I will test that as soon as I can. Thanks.
Awesome video dude! Love the informative content here.
I can't wait until we have scanning mechanics
Really helpful! Ty. I hope you get some well deserved growth from this.
Awesome video let's be friends! Thanks for the scanning tips, can't wait to try them later on.
Fan bloody tastic mate.
Great vid.
Had no idea it was this involved, but I'm neither a miner nor pirate lol
Will definatly be using this now.
It baffles me how CIG adds mechanics to the game and gives no explanation of what things mean or how to use them. Thanks for the video!
I use that info when Scam Citizen releases in 2549
Ahh. Lifesaver. That "pierc" thing was just throwing me off.
the pierc always stuck at 100% on F7A mk2, no matter what keybind i change in the settings 😅
"PIERC" stands for *Precision* somehow. lol
Can you not see the owner of the ship anymore?
The ship was abandoned so there was no pilot to identify any longer. Previous experience says you should see the ship owner but the 3.23.1 patch may have changed that.
@@TheBoffinLabs I haven't seen that bit of information on any ships i've scanned this patch.
The new scanning UI is much more obtuse than the old.
Scanning needs work... Maybe next patch. Right guys?
Nothing new here. It has worked this way for a long, long time, other than changing the name of the radar focus adjustment.
You could have talked about the new sub target scan needed to see and target sub targets….
No time like the present to start making that video. I'll look for it on your channel soon.
@@weaselteatthis dude is on so many comment sections for star citizen bro it’s kinda weird lol
@@Eggsecuter aaaaand he is 42 y.o. :p
@Edukacyjny_pa-troll uhh so??
He is the average demographic of a SC backer.
Don't get me wrong, his comment is that of an a$$hole, but who cares about his age.
Agree with others, make your own videos spacedad
3,23 is a bullshit it's a worse patch ever
You must not have been around very long. Back around 3.12, 3.13 there was a FULL wipe. Folks lost their minds along with everything else. 3.18 made nearly the whole game unplayable. 3.23 is just a learning curve in this Alpha.
3.18 was far, far worse
@@7578061111 3.18 made me quit playing the game for many many months.
