    Very nice explanation. I have mixed feelings about the CCU system. What started as a method of allowing backers to adjust based on ongoing development has become a marketing tool in of itself. While its easy to fall into the trap of "Its saving money" there are invariably people spending more than they would of otherwise hunting for those 'deals'.
    Its easy for me to be cynical however as I've already greatly benefited from the system to build out a collection of ships vastly greater than the cash I've spent. I don't begrudge any newcomers achieving what they want with their purchases for less than what they might have spent otherwise. I just hope they start from a position of how much they are willing to spend and making the most of it rather than 'just one more purchase' to get those 'big savings'.

      add greymarket credits that are sold for 50-60% and boom its even better.
      btw if you use cheap credits from the greymarket instead, you are also guaranteed to get your money back 90-100% in case of overspending.
      im doing that for 3 years now, makes things less of a worry....unless youre the type of guy that get easily scammed of course lol.

    One thing to add is if you have store credit or will due to melting any ship/CCU you wont be using, it is best to select warbond ship in the to que, then in the from que select ALL ships (not just your hangar ships), then filter to highest to lowest price. This way you guarantee the CCU will be at the lowest price available for new money. You can then use store credit to bridge any gaps in your chain if require. Another thing to add is that the longest insurance will be selected once a CCU is applied, not particularly that of the base ship if the CCU comes with longer insurance.

  • @CapnSnackbeard
    @CapnSnackbeard Před 7 měsíci +6

    Great tips! I learned some new things. I wish this had been around when I was struggling with the basics. Definitely worth saving to share.
    Also: for people who hate the ship system, and who complain about CIG, but want to contribute each year, the CCU game is a great way to make your dollars go far.
    I will give CIG $5 or $10 development occasionally because they do maintain a (wonky) test environment to play in.
    When I do, that $5 can become $100. Since I want a very small fleet, if I play the long game (since there is no other full game to play 😅) all my little purchases can add up to a big ship for cheap.

    • @caseytwill
      @caseytwill Před 7 měsíci +5

      I'll give you an example. Price in (x) is what I paid. All CCUs and Warbond CCUs are from the previous ship to the one mentioned. This took several years, and it wasn't optimized.
      I started with a Reliant Kore that I bought as concept ($50) -> CCU to Arrow ($10) -> Warbond CCU to Gladius ($5) -> CCU to Cutlass Black ($10) -> Warbond CCU to Nova ($5) -> CCU to Hornet Ghost ($5) -> Warbond CCU to Ballista ($5) -> CCU to Prospector ($15) -> Warbond CCU to Vulture ($5) -> CCU to Constellation Taurus ($15) -> Warbond CCU to Defender ($10)
      note: Some of the ships have changed price since I completed this chain (like Cutlass Black is now $110, not $100).
      End result, Banu Defender for $125. I saved $95 for a 43% discount.
      Almost any time a ship has a Warbond CCU option, I buy several (at least 5), even if I don't have a plan for them. On average I save between 40-50% per ship, but I have a few that I've saved 67-72%.

    • @iamjeramy
      @iamjeramy Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@caseytwill interesting! thanks for the example. that was a lot of steps!

    • @caseytwill
      @caseytwill Před 7 měsíci

      @@iamjeramy The more steps, the more chances to save $$. When buying a Warbond CCU, get an upgrade from the most readily available ship that is closest in price as possible. For example, the Spirit A1, normally $200, is available for Warbond for $175 right now. The Sabre is $170, so you could buy a Warbond CCU from the Sabre to the Spirit A1 for $5... You could either buy a Sabre at any time and upgrade to the Spirit A1, OR wait until the Sabre goes on Warbond, maybe for $160, then you would buy a Warbond CCU from the Prospector (normally $155) to the Sabre for $5... and then you wait for the Prospector to go on Warbond etc etc etc. Do it right, and each and every step of the way you're saving $5, $10, $15, $20 or more. It's a looooong, patient game, but that's how you get an Eclipse for $100, or a Caterpillar for $105

    Good info but lack of a practical example. I am a "normal" SC player and although I've heard of the possibilities with these kind of tools and such, I have never got the chance to understand them exactly because whoever helped me (and understood the process) only gave me the short theoretical crash course (like you did in the video) and did the ship upgrade for me, or showed me how to do it exactly - so I never got the chance to understand how it practically works. Now after watching the video, I know more of that same theorie but sill do not now how to apply what I've learned to see the result. An example would have been eye-opening, even if at the end you would have said: OK, but I am not going to buy this because it is not worth it rn, or whatever. Still liked the video and found it informative.

If you melt it the $40 savings goes away and it becomes a $50 ccu to rebuy with no savings. They changed this 18mo ago.

    One major comment on this is that Concept ships rarely get Warbond CCU's, and if they do it's generally because said concept increased in price. Their concept price is the cheapest you can get a CCU to them at, then they do only one jump to their final release price when they are actually released. The exceptions to this are the older concepts that changed significantly in size from when they were first sold as concepts, with the prime examples of this being the Merchantman and the Hull Series.
    While understand that this is a general overview of the CCU system and not going into huge detail, but there are many ships that are bad sources for CCUs and should be avoided. If you're using the CCU Game app, it should now warn you of these bad sources. However, they're still valid sources to select from when using the Pledge store, and it's a bit of a pitfall for those are unaware of them.

    If you melt a warbond CCU, you will lose the WB savings. It basically turns into a normal CCU. Therefore you can no longer melt the WB CCUs. They made that change last year I believe. I would not doubt… sooner or later, they may do the same with standalone ships too.

      @N041M has it correct. You can never get back more store credit than what you spent to pledge for a ship. In some cases you might find a better deal and it could make sense to melt and rebuy using a new CCU chain if there were better savings.

      As far as long term insurance needs go, there's very little that's been said, other than that insurance is going to be one of the money sinks to help balance out the economy, and that those ships with LTI will have their basic loadout insured, but upgrades and spare modules aren't going to be covered. It's hard to speculate, but the consensus is that it's useful, but not required, to have LTI.
      If you have an option to get a ship with LTI and it costs the same, or just a few dollars more expensive, then it could be worth the upgrade.
