Gerogia Tech band plays "Here Comes the King" (Budweiser song) at the end of the third quarter at each home game. This was at the Gardner Webb game 10/11/08
I am a lifetime GT fan and season ticket holder since 1984! My wife is a graduate. I have only missed 4 GT home games since 1984! I have been attending Tech games since I was a kid and sold cokes in the stands at GT basketball games in the 1960’s at Alexander Memorial. The origination of the song was way back in the 60s and early 70s when we had a coach named Bud Carson! The Band started playin the Budweiser Song as a tribute to him and because of the love of beer!
I'm a GT Alum and married to an Anheuser-Busch employee. The correct title of this song is "When you say Budweiser", not "Here Comes the King". The GT Band has been playing this song since I was a student there in the mid-70s. Anheuser-Busch thanks the band for the many years of free publicity!
Wisconsin's band plays this song too. I feel that we must engage in mortal combat to determine which school deserves the right to this song. SIncerely, When you said WISCONSIN you said it all
Well to sum history up from both sides, it really was because of marketing and fan favorites. Both bands technically copied Budweiser since both teams started using the song around the same time anyways.
