I saw Mean Girls in April and the girl playing Cady got sick off stage in the middle of the performance so they had to pause the show, close the curtain, and turn on the house lights. 10 minutes later her understudy came on and performed the whole show without missing a beat! It still amazes me how talented everyone on broadway is!

spicy tea I can’t remember exactly but I think she just finished singing “it roars” and then they went to a scene with a classroom with Erika backstage and then they stopped it, closed the curtains and said they would be back in like 10 mins and then her understudy did the rest of the show and she was amazing

Honestly cannot understand the people saying Barrett just doesn’t want to be there. She’s said herself she was sick around this time, and the little problems with her performance sound clearly like results of a sickness and not strain or boredom with the show. She’s literally smiling the whole way through. Some people are just looking out for her because they know she suffered damage from Heathers, but others are just being straight up rude and searching for a reason to hate when there isn’t one.
Agreed. One of the first things I noticed in this performance was how much she was smiling and dancing around.

Shannon Casey - I also think Barret is a kind of shy, socially awkward person who is a lot more at home on a theatre stage.
I’m not gonna lie, I was worried about Renee, not because of vocal skill, but because I wondered whether a 19 year old would be believable as the “apex predator” amongst people in their mid twenties, but she really has that “Regina” feel to her. You can tell she’s put a lot of thought into her portrayal of the character.
Shannon Casey she’s definitely got what it takes! i saw her perform as regina and it was amazing!! she has such a great villain feel to her
I can tell that just from this performance! She’s gonna go so far considering she can do so well at such a demanding role this young! I mean she’s already gone far, but even farther!!
Plus she looks at least 30, although she acts like a 12 year old.
I absolutely love her Regina. She just LOOKS like a high school mean girl. But she’s of course like the sweetest person ever. 😂

This was my thought too. Janis wouldn't be jumping and dancing and smiling. Barrett just seemed in character to me, and I thought her vocals were great, considering she's been having some health issues.

Barrett makes me so happy when she sings I'd Rather Be Me live, she KNOWS how to hit those notes and to see that Heathers didn't completely destroy her all those years ago feels good
I absolutely LOVE how Renee portrays Regina. I saw Taylor as Regina and I feel like Taylor played Regina more as movie typical mean girl regina(which I loved) and Renee amps up the manipulation and sexy and is just downright EVIL. Both are so amazing and I’d LOVE to see Renee as Regina
The way they both take on Regina and preform as her is amazing. I think Taylor portrays her as someone who is evil but misunderstood and has a reason for being so mean, however Renee just makes her down right evil and a bitch for no reason and I love both interpretations. They’re both so talented woman!

@@lucycrossley2281 I don't think so; there's a moment in the show where Cady asks if either Janis or Damian have a pink shirt and Janis replies "no" and sounds rather grossed out by the idea.
danielle has a black shirt with the pink shorts (like she got the shirt from janis and became a plastic second), janis is in all black (bc janis), and regina has on the pink shirt with the big print (makes her plastic status known). when casts go to these events they tend to dress at least a little in accordance w their role

I don't really see/hear why people think Barrett is tired in this. I think she sounds great. She's not fully committing because this is just for fun. However, she is still throwing in the funny Janis-isms and she looks like she's having a great time. I'm not saying she's perfect (no one is) but I feel like I've definitely heard her sound a lot more tired than she does in this.

danielle has the perfect combination of staying true to the songs but also adding her own personality and customizing it to be her own, but in a way that it sounds very natural and not like she is trying to change it
People are not appreciating that Barrett actually has the hardest songs/hardest role vocally. And she's soooooooooooo good. She literally gets no rest in the whole I'd rather be me song, so high and fast all the damn time, I was exhausted just from listening to it

@Olivia Erickson can i just say heathers involved a lot of belting and high notes. even if she does sound tired that's likely because most of the rest of this cast are new to the show so it's easier for them to be more energetic. She's dancing around and bopping her head, she's okay. Barret is a very strong singer and she's smart, she'll give her voice a rest when she needs to, she had a whole rant about it on instagram.

I personally think Barrett sounds really fabulous here. I understand where people are coming from though. she’s not wearing a load of makeup so she’s more natural faced. She was sick this whole week, so that also factors into it. I’m not trying to sound insensitive by saying she shouldn’t take a break. Not at all. But Barrett is incredibly talented. Take all the other things into consideration and pile that on top of performing it outside, where some sound gets distorted, and the fact that she’s been doing this for years. It makes sense that she’s really tired, but she still sounds great! She’s really a performer who puts out her best no matter what❤️

Hello! To all the Barrett fans... If you can't tell, before she starts singing she is Barrett and smiling and happy, and afterwards when she's done she's Barrett again. During? She's in character as Janis; maybe not fully, but she isn't "done" as herself, she's literally being Janis but not fully. I can say this because I do that oftentimes too when singing a solo.

People are commenting on Barretts voice but you can tell that she is having fun and I like how she mixed it up as she didn't really have to play a character. Although I do agree that she might need a rest.

It’s just amazing to see how much Renée has grown into her character. I mean she was already phenomenal and a lot of times belting out those songs on pretty much a daily basis destroys the actor’s!actress’s voice but it just made hers that much stronger

I don't feel Barrett is tired, given that she's had some health issues recently I think she killed it. She's in character and yeah ok maybe she missed a couple of the higher notes but she still killed it in my opinion. Dead good :)

I saw Danielle Wade on tour, and I definitely think she captures the role of Cady. She’s no Erika Henningsen, but wow she is amazing!! And she is the sweetest human being ever, I met her at stage door

barrett is usually given very vocally demanding roles. with that being said, having a solid technique comes into play. barrett is EXTREMELY talented. she booked Veronica and now Janis for a reason. that belt is out of this world. but to me, Barrett at times gets lazy with her technique and it shows. if Barrett truly is sick, which makes sense due to the shakiness of her sustained belts, and the nasal quality in her voice, then i applaud her for performing here. singing when you’re sick is literally like asking to die. so. barrett could do better if she kept up with a healthy technique. also, i hope she feels better.

the thing about her “technique being sloppy” is that her character isn’t a prim and proper character. Her character is very just whatever punk rocky! So would you imagine a punk rock singer to have perfect technique? no of course not! AND this is just a mini concert so she might have just been pulling her punches because she has to do this show and these songs 8 times a week on top of this 🥵 just my thoughts tho
