Just rented one for my wife. While on the road (far into her trip) she pulled over to let the dog out, got back in the Jeep and the fob stopped working. She called me in panic mode. This video helped more than anything else I tried. Thank you sir. From the bottom of my heart.
While I was luckily at home while mine went dead, I was in a pinch and needed to leave ASAP for an event I needed to be at. I’ll echo what you said - this video was the solution I found to be most helpful. Less than 2 minutes to explain, straight to the point, and easy to follow! So thankful for people like this dude.

Thanks so much. I was at work it was 9 pm everyone was gone unable to see it was so dark out and my car said key fob not detected. I was inside a locked gate and unable to let anyone in to help me. I said God I need help. So I googled how to get my car to start. It worked and I was able to get home to my kids. As a single parent I had no one to call. This saved me thanks so much.

Because FCA/Chrysler/Jeep Corporate puts out videos explaining all this, true I can't find them easily anymore and likely because no one is watching them. And you could always just open your Owners Manual (O.M.) and read it. But no one does that anymore and instead just complains why didn't the Dealership or Manufacturer tell me that, instead of reading it in the manual they put in your glove box. If you don't like reading, they've even started putting quick start guides in glove box.

Look up RFID Chip technology. Someone already mentioned it. An RFID chip can be energized from the RF energy from the antenna of the car communicating with the chip. But it has to be close to the RFID chip to energize it. So when your Key Fob battery goes dead, the tranmitter that boost the signal from the RFID chip, so it can communicate with the vehicle to let it know its the right key fob to start the car, can't work unless its really close to the antenna. The RFID Chip is in the butt of the key fob and the antenna is right behind the push button. So when you push the butt end of the key fob into the push to start button you are putting the RFID chip and antenna close enough together the RFID chip gets energized from the RF energy from the antenna, they can communicate and start your vehicle......
Thanks I bought extra batteries for this exact reason. Did not know that pushing the fob into the ignition switch would start it. I know some cars have a hidden key hole in case this happens

Thank you for this. My key fob has a new battery in it but sometimes the car apparently can't detect it. So knowing how to do this is a life changer. The only other issue I've run into, is once I was loading thr car with groceries in the back, my keys were in my purse in the front seat. I closed the back of the car. Soon as the door latched down, the car locked itself, while my keys were inside. Thankfully I called my mom who had my spare key fob, but the feature of that is terrifying. What if there were small children or animals in the car on a hot summer day? Ever since then, I always keep my keys on my person (on me).
