Oil Drum Barbeque

  • I made this barbecue around about January this year (2017) and a few of the files went AWOL along the way so my motivation to get the clip completed kind of went out the window, along with selling our house, buying another and moving in the meantime. Anyway it has been a long time since I posted anything so I figured I would just smash together what I have and here is the result. If I were to build it again (which I may well do as I have sold this one on) I would go about it quite differently, but that is a story for another day! anyways, I hope you enjoy.

    Anyone wanting to build one - only one quarter of the barrel needs to be cut for the pit-door,and still gives you room to add all your braces.I made a hinged clean out door which also works as a vent door on mine and added a 6 inch wide rack in the top back 1/4 of the barrel which is great for link sausage. Nice job on the pit - just needed easy ash clean-out door and smaller pit door which is easier to work with and leaves the pit more stable.

    I really like how you designed your grill. You gave me some great ideas for my future smoker. Have a Merry Christmas

      This is the "oil-drum syndrome".... Please...make the oil-drum easily removable (And recycle...folks..ok.) and make a frame that lasts a lifetime.
      Ashes in oil drums is the death-knell for them:
      They get damp. They die.
      Awww!

      It was just regular high heat bbq paint. I don't remember the brand sorry. Should be pretty easy to find at a hardware store

    Great job - I assume the pipe through the bottom is to improve airflow? If so any regulator on it?

    • @TheEnginesmith
      @TheEnginesmith  Před 6 lety +1

      Yeah that was the idea. It didn't have any regulator but it prevented the embers from building up too much so I ended up blocking it off

      how much did it cost to make it with all of the supplies

    • @TheEnginesmith
      @TheEnginesmith  Před 6 lety

      I don't really remember, but the drum was free, the steel for the legs came from the scrap bin at a structural reinforcing company for free too. There was 3 lengths of 6mm round and 2 lengths of 25x3mm angle if I remember correctly. I'm pretty sure it came in under $100nz.

    Why is the vent put at the top of smoker? If it is put at the bottom of smoker the cooler smoke at the bottom would escape and the hotter smoke at the top will stay. Wouldnt it be energy efficient that way?

      Si la verdad que tanto pensar en cómo hacer ese chulengo que está bastante pasable, para meterle 4 chorizos o salchichas??? Lo que no tiene ese chulengo es parrilla regulable en altura queda mucho mejor que una parrilla a una altura fija , más vistoso yo los hago con tapa corrediza también que le da una terminación más fina y elegante, pero por ser un novato el que hace ese chulengo no está tan mal
