Hi Michelle, I am a 52-year-old man and have been drinking a lot for 20 years. At the moment, after being treated, I have been sober for 5 and a half years. Fortunately, I have never been married. I also did not have a permanent relationship during that period. I found your channel and think you are doing a great job. I know that there are many women who are married to an alcoholic man, or vice versa. You're right; it is not the partner's job to stop the alcoholic. The alcoholic must first see for themselves and want to stop themselves. Addiction is a terrible disease. Getting away from it is hard work. I succeeded and occasionally help other people who are addicted or people who have to live with them. Continue the good work! Greetings, Mark
I am so grateful I’ve found your videos. I feel so comforted by learning it’s OK to expose the secret. I’ve been married for 21 years to my husband who abuses alcohol. We have 3 children. I don’t want to leave because I want it to work. He is high functioning and provides for us. But I feel trapped because I haven’t built a career. I’ve homeschooled my kids for the past 17 years. I’m going to my first Al-Anon meeting on Monday night. Desperately need support
I've kept this a secret 15 years and I didn't even realise ! I'm sickened with myself but I kept it secret for him. its so true what you said that alcohol wants you to keep it a secret . thanks for this x
That's completely understandable. Their addiction can have an effect in so many ways, including the emotional toll it can have on you. Make sure to give yourself lots of grace xoxo
